Never tried Plugra but usually buy Kerrygold or Kate's of Maine. I will definitely try Plugra.

I bought a Nikkon Cool Pix S6200 for my DD for X-mas and liked it so much I bought myself one. I've always been partial to Canon but this camera is small, easy to use, rechargeable and takes amazing pictures! I got a deal on it because the local Staples couldn't get anyone to buy the red ones. Lol

If you want to try and fix it, I've had good luck with fixya.com. Enter the product type, make and model and problem and it will search for a possible fix.

Now is definitely the time for Maine lobsters. Before the water warms and they molt, the shells are packed full of meat. DH bought me a 3 lb. one for my birthday this week and it was chock full of sweet meat. (DD & DS bought me 2 bottles of my favorite wine to go with it. DH & DS don't drink or eat lobster so DD & I split the lobster and a bottle of wine. Life is good!

Camera - Not sure what model you have. Go to the manufacturer's WEB site and download the latest version of firmware and re-load the firmware to the camera. Hopefully this will re-set the operation of the camera. Re-loading the firmware typically is done either by the USB connection or removal of the memory card from the camera to the computer.

My camera had the same problem. I went to the manufacturer's Web site and they gave me a link to a place to send it to be fixed. I sent it out and it got fixed and they sent it back. Took quite a few weeks though. I checked with my local camera store and they do the same thing for their fixes, almost same price, actually a little higher so I just used the Web site and sent it out myself.

It cost 64 bucks to get fixed, plus shipping. Works fine now. The repair place was www.unitedcamera.com

Great tip on the butter. I can't help but notice all the water in the butter I get, which is usually whatever is cheapest. For sauteeing don't think it would be worth it but I'll bet it makes a difference in baked goods like my fave oatmeal cookies.

I've been working on a crayfish project all week, makes me want to eat some lobster! How I envy you!! We just can't splurge right now though, due to the unemployment devil that keeps chasing us and me being in grad. school.

Interesting post and yummy looking roll. I have never tried Plugra but have thought about it occasionally. I think I will get some, as though I need an excuse to add more butter to my life!

Lobsters, interesting. I rarely buy them but at least I know now when to buy them. I do like getting a good value.

I have this camera and while it's not the latest and greatest, it's cheap and takes good pictures- I've had it since 12-10 and I would buy it again. My niece worked at Best Buy for awhile during college summers and she said this was the best camera to get- although I bought it from Amazon.
It might be worth looking at the latest model in the series.

I'll second the nomination for Nikon CoolPix. The only reason we replaced ours was because we went for a digital SLR. Like a previous poster, we're partial to Canon, so that's what we went for. But for point-and-shoots, Nikon CoolPix.

Have never bought Plugra or other "high end" butter before. It's always at LEAST twice what store brand or LoL is normally. If I ever see it priced like regular brands, will definitely try it.

I've no comments re the butter or the camera, but I do have a general question about lobster rolls. Now, I live plumb in the middle of the continent, and lobster is definitely luxury fare here. In fact, I have never purchased it for home consumption, and have only splurged for it very rarely in restaurants on special occasions. So my question is why, WHY, serve something so fine and exotic on a cheapo hot dog bun? I mean, bread is one of my favourite carbs, and I always go out of my way to get the good stuff. I wouldn't even choose a soft white hot dog bun to serve a HOT DOG. Why not get some fine artisan breads or rolls on which to serve lobster?

Tradition - at least here in Maine! Though I agree on bread quality. I can forgive fast-food restaurants for almost everything but the bread. I would at least do a toasted english muffin for my lobster salad.

That's a perfectly fair question.

However, I am with FOAS on the use of hot dog buns for lobster roll.

Good Hot dog buns toasted with Plugra butter are delicious.

When I was in Maine, the McDonalds there served lobster rolls on hot dog buns. Toasted buns with lots of dripping fresh lobster meat, just like FOAS's.

I went back again and again, I don't remember how many I ate.

I forgot how much McDonald charged for those amazing rolls. They were not expensive.

I also ate Lobster Value Meals at McDona'd's in Maine and they were good, although I agree that better bread would make a better sandwich.

Plugra here is more than twice LoL or any other brand, but I did buy some for shortbread at Christmas. It was worth it for a splurge.

My camera is a Canon Elph, it's a good little camera and has survived much abuse, including being slammed in the Jeep seat by Ashley when she was folding the seat down. Broke the corner of the viewfinder screen but it still works fine.

McD's lobster rolls are available throughout New England in the summer. Big tourist hit. Heck, why not? They're quick & they're not too bad (although a bit too much mayo for my tastes). Price is right. You don't get the ambiance nor the fabulous view as Lobster in the Rough but, heck, it's still a pretty decent lobster roll.

We also get McRibs periodically here.

As far as Plugra is concerned - a few years ago here on CF I was touting it's wonderfulness. I used it a lot until we switched to organic dairy. Plugra is, alas, not organic.

Since retiring, DH has a Personal Use Lobster License that allows him to maintain up to ten pots for personal use only - no resale. We only have 3 pots this year. That's plenty of lobster for the two of us.

Thanks for the tips (both here and email) about camera repair. To make a long story short, Sony's site had advice that was useless, so I followed some internet advice and now my camera is officially dead. I'll keep your camera recommendations in mind as I research.

The first time I had a lobster roll I questioned why the hot dog bun, but it just works. Also tradition, I believe, is that the buns be top split not side split. It took several tries before I could find those. Before I actually found them I went on KA's site to look for hot dog bun recipes, but found that I needed a special pan to make these. (I don't have a suitably sized substitute.)

I worked in the Boston area for a while and was shocked the first time I saw lobster roll on the menu at McD's. I agree they have a bit much mayo, but not bad as I recall.

Tricia - Interesting about the personal use license. I've been wondering if there's any way to catch your own lobster without getting either shot or arrested. Now all I need is a few pots. Oh, and a boat.

Here's our lobster boat. You don't need anything fancy. Whiskey River's 22' & outfitted with minimal electronics. It's seaworthy enough we can & do easily go through the Race but our pots are near Ram's Island which you could maintain with something like a Whaler. I don't know what lobster zone you are in but you should check it out on NY's fishing license website. It's $120/year. We'd have boats anyway so it makes lobster much cheaper & more fun. BTW, boating in itself is great family fun - teaches responsibility, accountability, etc. while having a blast.

dcarch, I've had a Canon Powershot 570IS for several years, and it keeps plugging along. What I like about it is that 1) it has a pretty good macro function, 2) the image stabilization--the 'IS' in the model number--works pretty well, and 3) it takes AA batteries. That particular model has been supplanted by more recent ones, but I do like the Canon point and shoots.

The fact that the camera takes AA batteries, to me, is a big plus. When your batteries conk out, it's not a biggie to find replacement batteries. Lately I've been using nothing but Sanyo Eneloop LSD (low self discharge) NiMH batteries, and they work great. (for a discussion of LSD batteries, check out N. Lee's review of the product at the link. I use that charger and Sanyo Eneloop batteries, and I've upgraded all my cordless phones' batteries to Eneloops)

"Lobster in the Rough" Tricia. LOL

We used to love crossing the border to Port Huron, Michigan, for a bit of shopping and lunch at "Chicken in the Rough." The lot is full of Ontario cars (many more than Michigan cars.). The chicken is fried, and served in baskets with fries, coleslaw and some honey to drizzle on your chicken. A real treat.

Well, there's buns and then there's buns. (Don't you DARE Jessy!) I think the idea is you want to have something ubiquitous that doesn't interfere with enjoying the lobster yumminess! (Like I said, back off Jessy!!)

In New England, all hot dog buns are top split not just those used for lobster rolls. Sure does make it easier to grill them. You don't want a chewy type bread nor one that takes attention off the lobster. The roll is just a vehicle to eat the lobster - sorta like a cracker's relationship to cheese. :)
