My garden is almost entirely shades of purple. Being new to the area, I used a landscape gardener to start me off and after the 1st growing season, when I asked why there was so much purple, he replied "Is there? I wouldn't know because I'm color blind." Oh well!!!

Olga, I live in zone 4 and I have Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' growing well in my garden. It even survived last winter when temps reached a low of -65F. It was buried in snow so that helped protect it from the cold.

Absolutely love this article! Working with color and texture has always been one of my favorite aspects of designing landscapes! Plant choice can be daunting for the unexperienced practitioner when it comes to culture, growth size, required maintenance and seasonal display - choosing plants for high impact in different seasons makes for a year of interest and beauty!
