Not a complaint about DH - just a chuckle

Ok, he usually does the vacumnning.. But yesterday, I got it out and just had a thought... when WAS the last time we checked & changed the bag...

Bhuuuahhhhhhaaaaaaa it was so full I'm surprised that it didn't pop the cover off the cleaner...

Luckily there was a replacement available.. and I trotted off to the $ store so there will still be some available - next year when I think to check it again..

This is a guy who NEVER misses an oil change... just something not on his radar screen!!!

And no - I'm not telling him -- otherwise vacummning will become more of my job than his... I know how this works!

I would think with it so full, it would be hard to push and pull. Next time he uses it, watch to see if he notices a difference. He might think it is broken. {{gwi:1587325}}

Well..I can say, I have crafted with bones for many years. Must be the Native American in me. When I lived out in the country, and my son's and i would go fishing, I would come to a screeching halt when I saw a clean carcass. When my son's were old enough to drive, and they would see me look back along the road when they were driving..they knew right away to turn around, and 'let mom do what she does'...LOL People who knew what id did would bring me bobcats, armadillo's, cow skulls and most any type of bone. I would use the bobcat skins, ( scraping them and tanning them with salt) I have used deer legs as table legs and gun racks, I made a skeleton for halloween using animal bones. Skulls and Jaw bones I usually painted Native American scenes on them. I would have no problem building a garden trellis or windchimes from bones. I have seen people save the wishbones from turkeys and such, spray paint them gold and tie them to gift boxes for luck. I say, to each their own. My dad used to always tell us when he was young, they used the turkey breast bones for ice skates..LOL ( I never know when to believe what he says..LOL)...and you bet..I would have stopped and picked those bones up ;) Loved your story..LOL

At least he didn't kill anything, you or the plant! My dear boyfriend decided to "clean up the yard" one weekend while I was out of town. I came home and he asked "hey, did you know there's a cantelope at the end of that vine by the deck?" "Yes, I did know that. I planted it there. The real question is, how do you know that?" He pulled it up. He believes that all vines are bad because we have several coming in from the neighbors yard that are. We've had discussions about a lovely alamanda he's cut to the ground too. As for the green cantelope, I cut it up, put salt on it and made him eat it. You will eat it and you will like it and you will stay out of my vegetable patch in the future, even if it appears to be overun by weeds. Susannah

I was a boy and am now a dad (and lilathabit's DH). I'll offer up both my own memories and a grain of salt: - The right mix of red, black, and a slight touch of blue tempera paints can resemble blood. The effect is best pulled off by applying while making construction-like noises using power tools in the cellar, then screaming and running up the stairs. Make sure to wave your arms fast enough that your Mom only sees an impression of the blood-like mix. - The electrical ignitors for model rocket engines often fail. Instead, shove a wooden match head-first up the engine and then light the end of the match and run. Best done in the small back yard, using just the engine and without regard to whose house you aim it at -- it will fly in circles and bounce off every house anyway. - Never read the label on anything -- especially not that fiberglass repair kit you found and decided to use to patch the spot on Mom's car. BTW, Mom *will* wait on you during the days that it takes for the hardened resin to slough off your hands -- she'll have to when you tell her how much you really wanted to help her by fixing something for her. - If you are told that you can't get a dog, use your allowance to buy dog biscuits and then sit out front calling to any stray dog you see. Pretty soon they will keep coming by on a regular basis. Some grains of salt: - He may get so muddy that he blends in with the backyard, but when you do go out to look for him you will find he's lined up mud cakes that he made "for you, Mommmy." - A son will more likely be there helping you clean up when the basement when it leaks. And he is more likely to be able to know that you need a shop vac, not a regular vacuum. - Properly channeled, your son's interest in paint can save you money on home renovation and decoration. (My grandfather taught me how to paint a porch when I was 5.) - Properly channeled, his interest in fiddling with electricity will save you money on simple electrical work. (My grandfather taught me how to replace an outlet when I was 10 -- and my Mom encouraged me to learn basic wiring during my teen years. I passed the homeowner's electrical test in my county.) Okay, so the first time he forgets to turn off the breaker, he may blow the circuit and complain of an interesting ache in his arm -- after that, he won't forget again. - Have you seen that T-Mobile commercial with the chatty cell-phone girl who loves bubble gum? Girls can do that for hours (imagine not just the cost, but the mind-numbing effect of listening to it.) - A boy is not as likely to want a bedroom so pink that it makes your eyes turn pink with soreness from looking at it. Okay, so he'll want to paint it with glow-in-the-dark paint; you'll save money on the electricity that you would have put into a nightlight. - He may wear out his clothing quickly, but at least he will wear each thing more than once! That said, does anyone have any tips on how to keep our 9 month old calm during diaper changes??? PS -- I hadn't heard that brake fluid and bleach thing before, but now that you've got my curiosity...

Don't give him cold shoulder. Lay it all out. Specifically. I don't like it when you _____________ because I feel _____________ when that happens. Then tell him what you will do. Example. My 7 year old (yep, because that's how old your dh is acting!!) keeps not appreciating what I do for her. Not only that, but acting like a little brat prior to us doing fun stuff. I finally told her today that I am tired of feeling like this. I told her I cannot control what she does, but I can control how I react to it. So the next time she doesn't listen to me about eating in the living room or whatever, I'm not going to get all upset. We're just not going to do the fun stuff we had planned. Then I won't feel that she's taking advantage and martyr myself. End game. I think she got it. So, what will you do when DH does something like that? DH: I think your tattoos are hideous. You: I apologize for my husband. That was innappropriate to say to you, a guest in our home. Would you like to come with me to the patio for some tea? DH: Rush Limbaugh is an idiot, I don't see how any smart person could listen to him. You must be an idiot. You: It's obvious we have different opinions on this subject. Aren't politics a heated subject!! By the way, Aunt Jen, this is a lovely coffee cake. How did you make it so fluffy and light? By doing that, it takes the attention from him, lets him and everyone know that you won't stand for it, and lets him off without the humility of being kicked or told off. Just smile, and cut him off at the chase. Diffuse while in the heat of it, then when you get him alone have specific things to tell him, without anger or blame.

My DH also does the vacumning, and he doesn't seem to know about bags either.

I was going to say that there isn't an ounce of difference in 99% of men.

I must have one of the 1% that is different. DBF has his (own house and) bagless sweeper. He not only empties it regularly (his house is cleaner than mine!) but he blows the filter out with an airhose. He is truly a man of a lot of talents.

My best marriage advice is:
do not marry someone who has not lived by themselves for a year or two [also please inspect bathtub/shower area prior to accepting any offers of commitment - well, maybe also look in the oven...] vbg

If hubs is so much better than you at seeing dirt, what's the possibility of his also seeing the vacuum cleaner?

Maybe he could see to do a much better job of getting *all* of the dirt.

I've managed to clean out the bag a time or two before pitching it.

Can I get bags at the dollar store?

Cate--funny! I've got some of those things figured out too. For instance, if I charge something he will pay for it when the bill comes in, but if I pay cash, it's MY cash. Mine does the floors, too. He bought one of those industrial strength mop bucket things and it's so funny. We had maids for a while and he offered it to them to use and they looked at me and just grinned. Oh well, I figure, whatever it takes!! Saves me the work. Now, if I counted on him to dust we'd be able to plant seeds on the dining room table. No dusting, just floors.

When I was working Main Man, did laundry, cooked, cleaned, washed cars and mowed the yard. When he retired from Law, he retired from "Housewife". LOL! I actually, had to retire to keep up everything.

If I had a Maid and Gardner I could go back to work. I miss it. He claims he will do it all, so I can go back to work. But, I know better. Good intentions, but no follow through.

That's why the men in a wedding party are all dressed the same. If you decide at the last minute you don't want the one you're about to marry (or if he doesn't show up), the next one in line can just take his place.

Actually the vacuum moves easier when the bag is full...

Don't ask me how I know....but believe me I'm an expert.

Everytime I do change the bag that poor vacuum has so much suction I can't hardle move it.

Every once in awhile, my DH drags out the vacuum. He never can figure out how to change the height on it (from carpet to hardwoods, etc.). I keep telling him to leave the darn thing alone and let ME do it, but I guess he figures the house needs swept when there is more grass inside than outside.

My DH does the vacuuming too but I guess he is that 1% that is cut from a different mold because he does (or did before we got the Dyson) change the bag.Now he empties the container and does as Chemocurl's DBF,blows out the filter,dirt container and hose with the air hose! Gotta love that 70 year old man!LOL Now if I could just get him to throw away all those empty pill bottles,wal-mart receipts and non winning lottery tickets on the top of his dresser!
