Oh Boy do I know what you mean. I had to smile as I was reading it cuz my 19 year old son would have said the same thing. I had to call my husband in to read it and all he could say was "you guys are wierd" in a loving way. He did have a smile on his face tho. :) :) :)

DH still worries that I have stepped into the dark side just cuz I brought home a pair of "Day of The Dead" statues from Mexico..He thinks it's Voodoo!!! If I started hanging bones around the yard, he'd really flip!!lol!!!

DO you suppose the bones would serve a purpose too? Like keeping unwanted pests out of the yard(not just the neighbor kids either).

There was a HUGE dead Boar hog on the side of the road today and all I saw was a waste of ham! LOL

I have some cow bone hips as planters in the garden. They are funny looking. My DH doesn't mind anything I come up with. Sometimes he even suggests it first. LOL

If the bones were painted bright cool colors...I could see that. What creative people here.

Ok...I draw the line at bones! LOL! Your post made me laugh but I am with your son on this one. The thought of bones from some creature in my garden would just gross me out enough where I wouldn't want to be in the garden...Then to see pics? Yuk! I love garden junk but that is just too much for me. LOL...I'm glad your son wouldn't stop to pick them up...

Ok, I must be weird because years ago on my way to work every morning, I noticed a deer skeleten in the strip of land between the north and southbound lanes of the freeway. Poor thing must have been hit by a car months earlier, rotted away (or was munched on like the one above) and ended up cleanly picked by spring. I was so tempted to stop and pick up the skeleten! I thought now wouldn't that be cool to reconstruct it and have it in the garden? Kind of like dinosaur bones? But then I have been nicknamed Abby Normal ... he-he

TOO FUNNY!!! Here in Australia the native people have this 'thing' that you point a bone at someone and they DIE!!! Never heard about needing a certain incantation or anything... but I doubt they'd like bones hung around gardens here!

well, the rib bones would make a nice nose as a wind chime, lol.

OK Ya'll!!!!!!!! Now I'm hungry. You show a Texan ribs and that does it. That would go in my BBQ Garden.

oh, I so would have picked the bones up! I have collected bones for years, esp. skulls. I made my brother a change dish type of thing a few years ago with raccoon bones and skull (his email name was Diginbonz) and a friend of mine is a vet that has about 150 head of cattle and he is going to give me a skull with horns on it and Im going to mosaic it! bones are interesting to me!

Really had to laugh reading all your comments. Voodoo, lol, that's a good one! Cows have really big bones which there are lots out in the woods around here and little critter and bird skulls I find sometimes and empty turtle shells. Always found them interesting. I just leave them where they are most of the time. I wouldn't kill them, but once they are dead, I see nothing wrong with using the things they have no further use of. I'm not a wierdo either, but I suppose some will think I am when I say I would have no problem with someone using my bones when I'm dead. I mean, they're just bones.

No, justsam, I don't think bones in the yard will keep anything away--except for smickerdoodle and the Aussies, lol!!! (honest micki they look a lot better once the meat's completely off of them, and they are bleached clean and white like luna said)(you mean you wouldn't come visit me if I had a bone in my garden, lol?)(please know I'm just kidding, I totally respect everyones right to like or not like whatever they like or don't like :)

Now that would be the ultimate in recycling....I couldn't help but giggle reading your post. My sister and her fiance would certainly appreciate how your mind works. They are avid hunters/fishermen and don't waste a thing, if they can help it.

Whenever my husband and I go shopping and he sees something interesting to buy, I'll usually say something like " I can make that" He looks at me with wide eyes and says "Ohh NO, Im buying this!"

OH MAN I guess I am a weird one..LOL I have cattle skulls and hip bones in my gardens. I make a cactus garden every spring and in the front of it we always put a cattle skull. THe bones look really cool in the garden. They only last 5 years or soin the weather if you leave them natural.They start to fall apart after that. I find cattle teeth all the time from the skulls in the gardens. I have a painted long horn skull in my bedroom thats all done up western. I have a full horse skull I'm not to sure what I'm gonna do with yet.

I love bones in my garden. I have a small cactus garden on the west side to which I have added: armadillo spine, coyote and beaver skulls and turtle shell. Looks cool! I asked by neighbor (wildlife biologist)for the coyote and beaver skulls. They're working on research with these two species. I'm always keeping an eye for sun bleached bones. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

So funny! My dd reacts the same way to me about much tamer stuff! I saw a mosaic somewhere on the net that had horse teeth in it. I think it was very old. That did creep me out a little, having teeth imbedded in the floor. But they did look cool I must say!
Dd found a beaver skull up the road and brought it home years ago so the little boys who visited us at that time and the neighbor kids could "discover" it. Pretty exciting stuff I can tell you, lol.

Well..I can say, I have crafted with bones for many years. Must be the Native American in me. When I lived out in the country, and my son's and i would go fishing, I would come to a screeching halt when I saw a clean carcass. When my son's were old enough to drive, and they would see me look back along the road when they were driving..they knew right away to turn around, and 'let mom do what she does'...LOL People who knew what id did would bring me bobcats, armadillo's, cow skulls and most any type of bone. I would use the bobcat skins, ( scraping them and tanning them with salt) I have used deer legs as table legs and gun racks, I made a skeleton for halloween using animal bones. Skulls and Jaw bones I usually painted Native American scenes on them. I would have no problem building a garden trellis or windchimes from bones. I have seen people save the wishbones from turkeys and such, spray paint them gold and tie them to gift boxes for luck. I say, to each their own. My dad used to always tell us when he was young, they used the turkey breast bones for ice skates..LOL ( I never know when to believe what he says..LOL)...and you bet..I would have stopped and picked those bones up ;) Loved your story..LOL
