I made a 'New Years' Cake...sort of...!!!

Yes...that's right!!!

Faron made a New-Years cake, much to the delight of DD & DW!! Lots of laughs too!

Started off a couple days ago, when I said I could make a cake too! Then...they took me up on it....auuugguuhhhh!

They wouldn't give me any help or anything. "It has to be all on your own Honey" DW "sweetly" said. DD wasn't any help either! They were looking for some Saturday entertainment for sure!!

I'll upload pics later today. The biggest laughs were when I was "trying" to frost it....

Well, at least it tasted good!

Hurry with those pics! I promise not to laugh...last week my six-yo and three-yo gdtrs helped me with my birthday cake; yours cannot be any worse!

Oh my gosh. My order from Rockytop just arrived in my afternoon mail. First off I was surprised at the really big box as I had only ordered 15 iris and that included the 5 Special Bonus that you qualify for when buying anything else. I bought 4 of their 2010 intros- BLUEBERY FUDGE MAGNIFICENT MASTERPIECE BEVS BABE BACKDRAFT Six others of various year intros- POLESTAR CABERET ACT DONACHCLONEY FABULOUS ONE MAGICAL REALISM PERRYMONT I got 6 extra special bonus iris even thought I only qualified for 5. He had told me they were out of the first i choose so I picked an alternate. But both my original choice and the alternate are both in here. I have- LAKE TANEYCOMO ROYAL VESTMENTS MACHERALON JAMAICAN BREW SURFERS DREAM BEWITCHING HOUR Then there are 8 more bonus iris. I haven't even gotten a chance to look them up yet. I have only afew and I mean afew single rhizomes and those are quite large. Many doubles and those are larger than other places sending singles and almost as large as the singles. Then some are triple rhizomes and some clumplets were they are all attached and some have even more babies coming out of the sides. Also large. Not like he needed to send the doubles or more bewcause they are small, they are not small at all. So now I know why he needed the really large box. I will be taking pictures of some of these and will have more to say about all the extras. I am simply astounded at what I recieved today. Just unbelievable. You couldn't do better. I have never seen anything like it. Just past fabulous. I am really happy to say the least :-))

Greetings from Canada where, yesterday it was 30 degrees but not today it's -25 but it's getting lighter out now and the sun doesn't set until 6:30 or so and gas is now 118.9 cents a litre! yes Duane it does make alot of sense i was at the doctor's last week and he told me that it takes about 2 years to feel "normal" again. it is so strange not having to hurry here there and everywhere to get back home when we go out. one thing my kids told me that i was not to go out by myself without one of them, this was something they promised their dad and they, so far has also followed this wish. our son said he saw his dad on saturday nite, he said he walked over to a chair and sat down and watched him play a video game (Al was a double above the knee amputee), i told Matthew (son) that he was lucky that that happened to him and i wished it was me.(sorry, i'm getting myself all teary now)he said that it was like he was really,really there. Duane, we used to do the we made it through the morning, make it through the afternoon and made it through the nite, not one day! so i guess we all really cope the same! debbie

Lascatx -- I play French horn. I was a long-time member of a quintet back in B'ham and was fortunate to arrive in Santa Fe just as a quintet here was losing its horn player. We're comprised of an attorney, a HS band director, a retired forest service biologist, a wetlands conservation/restoration consultant, and a technical type who works at Los Alamos labs and can't really tell us what she does for a living (!). I know your son will enjoy his quintet -- any small ensemble, really. I found that my playing really improved when I joined a quintet some 18 years ago. Having to carry your own part with no section mates to lean on is good experience.

amunk01, the people selling fear, have sold you on this. First , I did what you said to do, and I found a plethora of results from dubious sites selling the fear. I don't trust any of it. And Second, I found this at Snopes Snopes debunks using herbicide as drying agent, say no actual wheat farmers have ever heard of anyone doing this The number of people selling fear, has mulitplied with this great invention of the internet. IDK, maybe they want to drive traffic to their site to increase ad revenue. Evidently its good business, because these people flourish. Lets go down the list GMO , and btw, CBS edited out a segment of their piece on GMO's, where they discredited the organization represented by the so called woman scientist they interviewed. It was in the piece originally aired. And when the science community says GMO safe, they move the goal posts to glyphosate. This is common strategy for the fear sellers, they scream about an issue and when discredit, they morph the issue into another issue. Organic farming, which now the organic farming business is twice the size of Monsanto, that has people driving across town to over pay at Whole Foods. And has also led to the near destruction of the restaurant chain Chipotles, when the chain tried to be organic with locally sourced food, and their customers almost died from e-coli. Then lets go to other areas .... like that evil FRACKING or pipelines Oil/gas industry can't do anything without having to beat down the fear sellers. They have the public scared of doing anything, we have to study everything 10X's over before anything can get done. This can't continue. Then there's the anti vaccine crowd, led by Robert Kennedy Jr, who is also opposed to FRACKING , whose law firm currently has several suits filed against Monsanto over glyphosate , and is opposed to vaccinating our children, when he's not out preaching about global warming. This fear selling , must be good business for his law firm. The internet has been the greatest invention in my lifetime, its added so much to our lives ............ but there's a downside, and its made the proliferation of rumor and flat out lies from fear sellers, much easier. I see so much fear, this is not what the last two lines of our National Anthem , speak to ..... Land of the free, and home of the brave. We are not that any more, and we've forgotten what FDR said at his first inauguration , " We have nothing to fear, but fear itself "

I think that's great Faron. Round cakes are thought to be good luck when eaten on New Years Day, representing the circle of life, or things coming full circle.

I, for one, am quite impressed! Be careful, though-this could be the start of DD and DW getting you to bake all sorts of things! Happy eating. I bet it will be as delicious as it is beautiful!

I am impressed- its not lopsided! like mine :) I can bake everything else- pies breads other pastries - but even cake mixes come out lopsided- no matter the oven. Frosting hides a multitude of sins.

I think it's wonderful! The fact that you made it on your own (it's from scratch, right?), it's beautiful shaped, and if this is your first time decorating, it's amazing.

You're a true renaissance man, with a wide array of music likes, and now you have added an artistic side. It's very impressive, and that comes from someone who bakes a LOT.

Wow, Faron - I'm impressed! I'm sure I couldn't have baked (and frosted) a cake that turned out looking so good! Is that a Fostoria cake plate? It's so pretty!

I think our Samoyed, Callie, could've done a better job...LOL!
Ah well...I have HUGE respect for people who do this a lot now!!

Faron, take credit where credit is due. Really, it is a great cake. Every cook/baker notices the weakness of their own creation. No one else does. The secret is hearing only the praise while silencing your own voice.

Present it and listen to reviews. Your cake is/was beautiful. Now how did it taste?

Hey, I'm impressed. Most guys wouldn't even think of putting decorative icing on a cake, let alone attempt it . . . if they could pull off actually baking one. I think it looks great. Good for you! You're rapidly becoming our forum's Renaissance Man, Faron.

Why, that's a handsome cake! And like cooper, I only do lopsided cakes, which is why I stick to sheet cakes.

Gorgeous presentation too. Look at that crystal pedestal!
