Sabjimata -- Is it the look of that fan that you like? Minka Aire makes one simular to the one you've shown that is a bit smaller. Derned if I can't find it right now. As I live where you do, I understand about wanting a fan in the kitchen. The problem I have now with my fan is that it causes strobing because is is by the skylight -- and when I redo the kitchen I want MORE LIGHTS! and want to avoid the strobe effect. So, I was told by a local store about getting a smaller blade, but getting a fan with a motor that can run blades that are at a 22 degree pitch, versus the regular 14-15 degree pitch. I've attached a link for a Minka aire fan that has a 32 inch width, but has a 22 degree pitch, and is about the same price as the one you've shown. It has the usual ceiling fan design, but if you want air movement in the kitchen, it may fit the bill. I'm hoping that a small white one will blend in with the ceiling. And if you look in the "seen on TV" thread, you'll see that they put a simular looking fan in the foofy house with the oddly placed cooktop. What a beautiful home, I love all the windows and light you have from them. As for an idea, I just went to a home-a-rama last week and this shot reminded me of the tall ceiling of your room and the entertainment unit next to it. What I thought might work in your room is where they added the beefy crown moulding around the room. Of course this room is more "country style" but the moulding would look great in your home. With that said, there were many many homes in the show with stone fireplaces, it is very popular these days. Here are a few more examples of stone fireplaces:

I lived in a house with only lamp and sconce lighting, and if you happen to be in the middle of the sofa, with no light near, you would kill for an overhead light. We bought a home recently and completely renovated it. First thing on the list: Can Lights! They are everywhere, and guess what? My lamps are going to family first (whoever gets their dibs in), and Craigs list next. Our house is amazingly lit, but we did need fans here in So CA, and we ended up with some beauties with glass light shades. justgotabme - the fan is from Triarch Industries and is part of the Corisca line. More info here. I actually came across it trying to find a completely different fan for the great room. All ceiling fans I've owned previously had either no lights, or individual shade downlights, so I have no idea what to expect. Seeing it in a store - unfortunately I can't. WISH I could! No one (and I have called everyone I can find including my builder's supplier) carries this particular item in stock. Several offers to special order, but none to go see. I've emailed both the manufacturer and several online retailers of the fan asking some specifications, including whether or not the top & bottom lights can be controlled separately. Awaiting their reply. It would make sense that a top light ceiling fan would strobe, I'm just not sure if having a bottom light also would cancel it out. The reviews I can find for it are all positive, but none comment specifically on the light, just "love love love this fan." I did manage to find this, re: strobe effect on dish lights with ceiling fans, if anyone is interested: Unfortunately, this is a common problem with ceiling fans that have a downlight, which is why many manufacturers are now building fans that include an uplight. My suggestion would be to dim the downlight (or turn it off) and set the uplight to its brightest intensity. This will minimze the the problem because the uplight will help wash out the blade shadows created by the downlight. If you turn the downlight off altogether and only use the uplight, the problem will be elminated.
