It seems too large to me. Check the internet to get advice on fan size. There are charts that give recommendations based on room size. Is your ceiling vaulted well above 8'? In any event, I think that large of a fan would look overwhelming in such a narrow space. Just my opinion however.

The fan is really nice. What are the dimensions of the room? There are standards for fan size. For a small small room the size is 42''.

Be careful not to place fan under recessed lights where you will get a flicker effect when the fan is on. I love fans in the kitchen...much better than AC for many times.

The kitchen will be open to the dining room. From kitchen wall to center of island where the beam will be is 10'. From the beam/island center to the dining room wall is another 12'.

The kitchen length will be approx. 19'. The dining area length is approx. 30'. In the dining room there will be a more formal seating section with a fan over the table and at the other end (across from the island) a long narrow breakfast "nook" with a fan over the table.

I am struggling to find a fan I can afford that I also like. I found this one and it does seem large for the kitchen space. Any ideas are welcomed.

. . . also take into account the proximity of your stovetop if it's gas. I had a fan in my kitchen but replaced it with a light when I changed to a gas cooktop. . . it created enough of a stir that it kept setting the ignitor off on the front burners!!

"A fan that is too big for your room may look awkward. A fan that is too small probably will not move enough air. Blade span is the key. Here are some basic recommendations:
* For rooms up to 225 square feet (15' x 15') and larger, use a fan with a blade span of 50", 52", 54", or 56".
* In rooms up to 144 square feet (12' x 12') we recommend fans with blade spans of 42" or 44".
* Smaller rooms up to 64 square feet (8' x 8') should use a fan with a 32" blade span."

Is it the look of that fan that you like? Minka Aire makes one simular to the one you've shown that is a bit smaller. Derned if I can't find it right now.

As I live where you do, I understand about wanting a fan in the kitchen. The problem I have now with my fan is that it causes strobing because is is by the skylight -- and when I redo the kitchen I want MORE LIGHTS! and want to avoid the strobe effect. So, I was told by a local store about getting a smaller blade, but getting a fan with a motor that can run blades that are at a 22 degree pitch, versus the regular 14-15 degree pitch. I've attached a link for a Minka aire fan that has a 32 inch width, but has a 22 degree pitch, and is about the same price as the one you've shown. It has the usual ceiling fan design, but if you want air movement in the kitchen, it may fit the bill. I'm hoping that a small white one will blend in with the ceiling.

And if you look in the "seen on TV" thread, you'll see that they put a simular looking fan in the foofy house with the oddly placed cooktop.
