Heated Ceiling Fan -- the answer to my dreams?

Our family room is on slab with a vaulted ceiling (about 12 feet) with a wall of windows behind the couch. We also have a natural fireplace in the room (room size about 18x20). In the Winter (we are in Michigan) that room is so dang cold I can barely stand it. Everytime we have company, they know to bring a sweater.

So, at Lowes today I saw a "heated ceiling fan." After reading about them...

I am excited to think that this might be just what I need to warm up that room in the winter. We do already have a fan in the beam on the ceiling so installation would not be difficult. I would probably only run it in the evenings maybe 4 hours per day.

Any opinions on this? Any drawbacks that anyone can think of?

Secondary question -- I told DH we should try reversing the fan we have up there this winter to see if that helps push heat back down into the room. He says I won't like it because it will feel too drafty. Has anyone ever tried reversing their fan and did it really make a difference in the warmth of the room?
