Come March 1, a home appliance version of the stimulus program that provided cash to car-buyers trading in their old models is scheduled to start. Designed to save consumers money for buying energy-efficient clothes washers, dishwashers, freezers and refrigerators, nearly $5 million in federal stimulus funding is designed to help Minnesota households save up to $200 for replacing their aging appliance with a qualifying Energy Star model. The Minnesota Trade-in & Save Appliance Rebate Program, operated through the Minnesota Department of CommerceÂs Office of Energy Security (OES), could enable up to 25,000 Minnesota households buy Energy Star appliances. Warners Stellian on Wednesday held a media event with OES and Waste Management Inc. officials to publicize the program. Just like Cash for Clunkers, residents are encouraged to decommission appliances that consume more energy. Eligible appliance and rebate amounts are clothes washers, $200; dishwashers, $150; refrigerators (minimum of 7.75 cubic feet priced over $300), $100 to $200; and freezers, $50 or $100. Other utilities or retailers partnering for the energy-efficient appliance replacement effort are Sears Holdings Corp., Best Buy Co. There's always another rebate, BUT don't let rebates sway you into buying a suite of inferior products just because they have rebates. It's rare to find a manufacturer who makes great everything, and you are much better off picking each product individually for it's features and then trying to find the best price for it rather than being stuck with a crappy appliance just because you could get money back for purchasing it.

andre I believe I was mistaken on the standard to qualify for the HP credit. It is not 15/13/9. see below. andre, a tax credit is just that. it is a deduction from taxes owed. if your tax liability is $5000, then you deduct up to a max of $1500(30% of system cost). I would say a pretty good deal when in recent yrs ,it's just been $300. It is considered good forum etiquette to keep your posts in one thread rather than multiple threads. Manufacturer rebates are generally given by the majors in selected upper end models in the Spring or Fall, never in the summer or winter mths when breakdowns or service are in high demand. IMO
