Whirlpool customer service

Hi, we bought a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer, just over a year ago, for our new house under construction. We also have Whirlpool front-loading washer and dryer in the old home, and had problems getting those serviced. At any rate, I just finished setting up and installing the new ones, and was missing the drain hose retainer and the shipping bolt covers - a few plastic parts. Because the w&d are "out of warranty" Whirlpool wants to charge me something on the order of $50 to replace them. The parts aren't especially important, but knowing the level of support from the manufacturer is.

A couple years ago I decided to stop patronizing manufactures with poor service polices and quality, and it has really made a huge difference in my life (much less stress and time in dealing with poor customer service all around). Whirlpool is now on my no-buy list. Does anyone have opinions on appliance manufacturers both with reliable products and good customer service?

How long should a manufacturer of a product provide free parts and/or service on a product?

Would you be willing to pay more for your product if it automatically came with a longer warranty?

Give me a break! This is really trivial stuff. It's like black-balling your car dealer and Mfgr because your new car was missing caps for the tire valves. By all means be annoyed, but what you've written is a huge over-reaction.

Does the machine work? Mine has....flawlessly for six years, now. Drain hose retainer not used. Shipping bolt covers would be in back so I don't even know if they're there....and couldn't care less.

@dhochman While everyone's sensitivity to noise is different if you are extremely sensitive finding an old school oven from the 70's and/or 80's may be worth searching out? Electronics are in and mechanical controls are a long lost memory. As such, finding a "quiet" wall oven is an exercise in futility. They all are noisy to some degree. I had a Whirlpool I though was loud until I replaced it with a Frigidare. In comparison the Whirlpool was quite tame lol. It really does not bother me or my wife, so we just ignore it. I do realize that for some ignoring it is not so easy to do. I was thinking of starting a business refurbishing old appliances and selling them at a premium. I wanted to more address the induction. The buzzing/zapping people complain about is the cookware. Not the actual induction unit. There are a few who will swear it is the cooktop/range, however the technology itself is silent, minus the fan needed to keep the boards and heat sinks cool. If you hear wires buzzing, that is the unit pulling too many amps from a wiring that is to low a gauge, that is a potential fire hazard that needs to be corrected. Pans need to be high quality (not necessarily high price) to eliminate unwanted buzzing/zapping. If you like cast iron, thus is an excellent choice in that regard. If it really bothers you that much though, you may just want to go with radiant electric or gas for a cooking surface.

It is my opinion that fabric softeners and sheets are unnecessary - PERIOD! If your clothing are "STIFF" coming out of your dryer, then you have a bigger problem, such as soap/detergent build-up. If you use these products to control static, there are ways to control it without toxic chemicals and perfumes from softener sheets and liquids. -If you experience static cling, then you are over-drying your clothes (especially if you have a mixed load of natural fabrics and synthetics). -Don't dry synthetic fabrics in the dryer. If you do dry synthetic fabrics, pull them out of the dryer before the load is completely dry. -You can spritz a dry load with a fine mist of water, tumble the load on "air" dry - no heat - a few times, and that will break the charge so you can remove the items without getting a shock. A fine mist of water is also a way to stop static cling if you are wearing garments that tend to get static. If you add these products so you have some mystical scent, such as "Spring Fresh", derived from chemicals, then add scent. -Grainlady

I have a positive update. I tried the "download & go" feature for the first time in a while and it finally worked! So Whirlpool is making some progress. What's funny is that at one point a Whirlpool support person insisted this is not one of the washer's features even though it's in all the literature and is an option for the washer in the app. But the washer and dryer still have minds of their own. I have videos that will make you shake your head at all the malfunctions. Last night I put a BIG load of wet laundry in the dryer and I couldn't get the dryer to start because the touchscreen was acting up. After much frustration the dryer reset itself and started working again, but not before I practically threw something at it and feared I'd have this big load of wet laundry with no way to dry it. UGH! Maybe one of these days these things will work as expected but Whirlpool is very slow in fixing this stuff. I'm afraid the touchscreen issues aren't fixable because they chose to use low end components to save a few pennies. Time will tell. Update: This is ridiculous. I left that load of laundry in the dryer overnight and just unloaded it. After I opened the dryer, I got a notification on my phone that the drying was complete. How convenient that 24 hours later, after I've unloaded the dryer, the dryer lets me know the laundry is done! This is like a comedy routine. But not funny :-(

The length of the warranty is not going to solve poor service and if A&E is the servicer nothing would help except finding someone else anyone else

That's not necessarily true. I had a perfectly satisfactory service experience with A&E.

That being said, there are hundreds of independent servicers who can handle repairs in or out of warranty. Using A&E is not always a *requirement*.

Asolo is often the only reasonable voice in some of these threads. If he seems negative it is because he is commenting on some bad information or hypereactive person.

I have had a Whirpool HD set for almost 5 years now with no problems. (OK, the dryer has a little squeak. At least I can hear it running). I am having a Whirlpool dishwasher delivered Friday. It was the best example of features and price I could find. I hope it is as reliable as the W/D.

The basis of this post was a complaint that Whirlpool would not provide free parts after their 1 year warranty expired and that Whirlpool is now on the posters No Buy list because of it.

This, and only this, based on the value system of the poster, qualifies as bad customer service.

The poster is not interested in the quality of the machine or at least doesn't mention it. So you can easily jump to the premise that if they get 15 or 20 years of care free service (way beyond the norm) that W/P will still be on their no buy list because the poster lost some parts that the manufacturer would not provide for free.
