Ok in case anyone else is wondering what a Cougar is... in a nutshell, it's a single lady (usually 35 or older) who tries to be young again (or still). Identification clues may or may not include short skirts/low-cut tops/cowboy boots, big teased hair, leopard print, really shiny pale pink lipstick, lots of makeup in general, a real dark leathery tan, hanging out in bars, beer drinking, hitting shamelessly on young men, and the presence of fellow cougars. Please note, no one trait here makes a gal a cougar. Sharon, you are not a cougar. Although you do have a nice tan. LOL.

What a wonderful place to celebrate a birthday....mind you the older I get I really don't care where I celebrate!

We spent the day exploring some of the amazing Chateaux along the Loire river, had a pic nique lunch of cheeses, meats and baguette with the obligatory bottle of wine and the most amazing cucumber salad/pickle I have ever had.

Tonight we are going to a highly recommended restaurant in Saumur. The gentleman that owns the place we are staying at has his own bistro, which is very well rated, and he recommended it....so :-)

Anyhow thanks again I truly appreciate the thoughts from home.

It sounds like you and his nibs are having a fabulous time on your special day! Sending loads of good wishes for many more birthdays abroad...or is that to a broad? LOL

Thanks again everyone. Dinner was delicious but not very adventurous vis a vis the menu which had some very "interesting" items on it including calves brain and a tripe , sausage and bean casserole.

I had escargot with garlic and parsley, frogs legs in a white wine and butter sauce and a Mandarin orange souffle. It was all delicious but the dessert was sublime.

Clive had foie gras, duck with a raspberry sauce and the souffle for dessert

We had a local sparkling wine as an appertif and a red from the same vineyard with the meal. The wine was lovely. I've made up my mind that I prefer Burgundy, Loire reds and Bordeaux in that order. I had never really experienced Loire wines before, they really are wonderful....not that I'll ever find them at home. We are leaving in a minute for a tour and wine tasting of the winery the wine we had with dinner comes from.

All in all a wonderful evening.
