Birthday food and celebrations
Yes, we did celebrate my birthday and I've finally recovered, LOL. Remember, we're newlyweds. (grin)
Anyway, when asked what I wanted for my birthday, I didn't have an answer, Elery was on his own. I'm difficult, I don't care much for jewelry and I hate to shop for clothes. I don't have a lot of kitchen room either, so he was kind of stuck, LOL.
Ashley and Amanda had already gotten me flowers and Makayla made me my all time favorite birthday card, with a picture of me and her on it. Here are the flowers:
I had this relatively new piece of carp Proctor Silex toaster. It only toasted one side, then I had to pop up the toast, turn the bread around and toast the other side. After watching me a couple of times, he decided that I needed a nice stainless steel, kind of "retro" toaster to match the food processor and coffee pot:
I also have a meat slicer coming via Amazon because I mentioned one would be handy, and he bought me a set of dishes. Brown/green with black interiors, they are very square and very substantial, much more "guy" dishes than my light spring green plates. I loved the green ones but they got really hot in the microwave, which I'm told could mean they are high in lead. Sigh. Figures, I paid $3 for 4 plates and I really liked them.
We got up Saturday morning and decided to go to lunch. We ended up here:

The menu is very interesting, and focuses on locally grown organic ingredients:
We split a lobster and shrimp club sandwich on ciabatta with freshly made "root chips", paper thin slices of sweet potato, white potato and beets, fried quickly. They were slightly salty and very crunchy, we agreed they were delicious:
We each had a cup of lobster bisque, it was also very good, I could tell it had saffron and white wine along with the lobster and cream:
Our appetizer was smoked whitefish dip with rosemary flatbread and a tomato/basil jam. The jam really "made" that dish, it was a spectacular combination:
The people right next to us were celebrating a birthday also, while the woman sitting right behind us got proposed to!
We left and did a little shopping:
We killed some time shopping at Marshall's and the Mediterranean Market, waiting for the 7:00 start of:
Because it's a minor league ball team, each team member took a child with them. The kids who were celebrating birthdays got to throw a ceremonial "first pitch" to the catcher. I was surprised that most of the kids could easily pitch from the mound to first base.
In spite of guys like this pitcher, the WhiteCaps lost:

We had supper at the ballpark, how in the world could I choose?
I ended up with a double rubbed and smoked brisket sandwich, pretty darned good for ballpark food, along with a cold rootbeer. We skipped the fireworks and went home, where we had dessert, homemade strawberry rhubarb pie.
Ah yes, another year older. Or wiser. Or wider, LOL. It was sure fun, though.
