Washer water on hot only lukewarm
Comments (20)this is the reason why... .Effective March 6, 2015: The U.S. Department of Energy revised their standards and federal guidelines for hot water energy consumption for all clothes washers. These changes affect all washer manufacturers in order to save energy and conserve resources. All manufacturers must comply with the new standards. We are committed to meet the Federal energy standards and deliver a product that upholds GE Appliances wash performance standards. To comply with these standards, HOT water temperature selection is a mixture of hot and cold water from your household plumbing. When you select HOT, you will receive some cold water with the fill; this is normal. Since the appliance is designed to fill with limits on the amount of hot water filling the appliance, it is not recommended that the cold water supply be turned off during a HOT water fill. The appliance is designed to fill with a mixture of hot and cold water to save energy, and is operating normally when doing so.from https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=22225 THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!! I DRIVE A SMALLER CAR THAT GETS 36 MPG. I CONSERVE ENERGY IN A VARIETY OF WAYS!! TURN THE HEAT DOWN, AC OFF WHEN NOT NEEDED UNLIKE NEIGHBORS. I SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO USE VERY HOT WATER TO GET RID OF DUST MITES! YOU NEED 130 DEGREE WATER TO KILL THEM AND TO GET WHITES CLEAN ETC. RIDICULOUS. THIS LEGISLATION I ASSUME WAS PUT THROUGH BY OBAMA! RIDICULOUS! i GUESS YOU CAN SHUT OFF THE COLD WATER VALVE WHILE FILLING THE HOT LOAD. THEN GET ON YOUR KNEES AND TURN IT BACK ON ONCE WASHING SO THE RINSE CYCLE USES COLD. THERE! USING HOT WATER ANY WAY!...See Moremultiple head shower---problems w/hot water
Comments (3)it is a moen assembly sorry I don't know the actual valve models--no paperwork on that from the original owners and the plumber took the info I used to order the part--the part I ordered/replaced was 1423 Balancing spool Moentrol maybe something like this for the two-head control http://www.moen.com/products/T4111ORB ours is oil-rubbed bronze and it is installed with the lever at the top and the pull-out valve under it which looks the opposite of the Moen site photo the info on the Moen site says that it should turn from 'full cold to full hot' but there are stops the plumber came back out and said that when he put in the balancing spool he had opened the hot stop all the way and that if he closed the cool stop that it would not do any good because the balancing spool would basically just reduce the flow of water to make sure the balance of hot/cold stayed the same... he said that there is movement underway to basically take the choice out of amount of hot water coming through faucets and showers--that safety of not burning/scalding people is overriding someone's desire to have a 'HOT' shower... when I asked about replacing the valve/lever with one that would swing right/left to allow me to regulate the balance of hot/cold... he said it would be too expensive to actually change the control to that type of fixture because we would have to open up the shower wall--take out tile--replace it... so we are basically stuck with either setting the water heater to higher temp because that will bring hotter water to the mix and will be expensive choice or just learning to live with it like it is I plan to take a shower in the two upstairs showers and see if their water is hotter than the one downstairs--- he said that the master shower is probably farther from the water heaters--and it might be farther than the other downstairs shower by just a little...which would influence the water temp at the head... both water heaters are upstairs and closer to those showers... it is just very frustrating to find out that something we really did not consider all that much would become so frustrating... I don't take long showers--and I don't use the big tub at all--don't consider that I waste water compared to larger families or people who take a 15 min shower...so this irks me to no end-- our old house with its old shower had wonderful hot water and I am really going to miss it... Comments (1)"The shower head in the high temp setting gives > 2.5 gallons per minute." Which is the factory flow. You can't get blood from a turnip. Find an adjustable spray head which will give you the perception of increased volume....See Moreplumber water softener on hot water side only????
Comments (28)There's really nothing wrong in softening the entire house and the hose bibs. If you're using KCl (potassium chloride) instead of NaCl (sodium chloride) you can water your plants and wash your car. When retrofitting a softener to an existing house, as you did, softening the entire house at the service entrance is usually the less destructive and most cost effective solution. Some new homes are plumbed for a softener to service the entire house EXCEPT the outside hose bibs and the kitchen sink. I prefer it all softened and then add an RO under the kitchen sink if you like for drinking, cooking, and the icemaker. With an efficent softener that it sized and setup correctly softeneing the entire house is not wasting much. We have 26g to 30g hard water and a 48k softener. We use one bag of KCl per month and regenerate once a week. How much more efficent can it get?...See Morerand_6
