Ashley sends a special song to her "singing birthday twin", LOL. Just as well she sent the song, the cake would be really stale by the time it got to Australia. (grin)

Thank you all, my dear, dear friends. Yesterday we had one of those days here at our house -- no water for 36 hours, Freya sneaking a pizza off the kitchen counter, and the smell of fresh polyurethane pervading the cold, damp house.... On the other hand, I had the loving affection of Tom and my DS Jacob, calls and cards from family, and greetings from all of you. And tonight we're going out to dinner to try celebrate again. Carla, Luanne, Jon, Anita, Lori, Ingrid, Sue, Carolina, Pamela, and Carol -- each one of your messages brought smiles and memories to my mind. I just realized that with the exception of Ingrid, I know each one of you in the Real World (as opposed to online) -- Ingrid, we'll just have to correct that soon. DH is definitely a keeper, we do spoil each other. I can highly recommend Ubud, out of the townsite it's very peaceful and the villa is soooooooooo hard to take :-) there are more staff than us! The Balinese people are so gracious and friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. I got a cool idea for French toast here- they make it with two pieces of bread with jam or marmalade in between, then dipped and fried. Very yummy! Thanks for the sweet thoughts, Lyra and Cathy, between the two of you you're right! :-)

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the birthday wishes! Sorry this is so late- there are good reasons! We went to Europe for an extended vacation! (Then I was away working for two weeks then went into hospital for some minor surgery. Now I'm home recuperating!) My birthday was spent in Krakow, Poland, we went to Wawel Castle in the morning, had a surprisingly good and not too expensive lunch for a tourist-trap cafe, found a lovely restaurant for dinner on our way back to our apartment, then walked home in amongst a huge religious procession that swept past the restaurant doors. It was magical. We worked out the procession was in honour of the Corpus Christi but we're still in the dark regarding the black-clad stiltwalkers carrying the 20' long artificial snake (shrug)

Thanks all! We just got back from a week in Sydney celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary (went to see a new stage version of the Rocky Horror Show on the night :-) ) so my birthday has been low key but lovely. DD came home and cooked my birthday dinner as a surprise, it has been great.
When I draw breath I'll discuss the really cool food scene in Sydney in a separate thread- anyone here had Uighur food? (leaving you hanging ;-) )

Sorry I'm late too - too much work of late, but I've welcomed that. Hope you had a great day - how far from your birthday is your anniversary? My birthday is the same day as my parents' anniversary, and my mother didn't get a present for her anniversary that year. I guess my father thought I was the present :(.

Don't know if I've had Uighur food, but I've had Uzbekistan, Tibetan, and Afghan - not sure how similar they are to Uighur. Of those three, I like Afghan the best. I'll look for it, however.
