Last year I purchased a new 4100 sf home. The home currently has two a/c units, one is a 5 ton and the other is a 4 ton, both are 13 seer. I am not sure of the brand name but they are likely the cheapest units that the builder could get away with putting on the house.

The company I work for gives a discount on Carrier and Bryant A/C units, so I have been considering an upgrading because I live in AZ where we use our A/C units almost year around.

The units I am considering are both Carrier Infinity series 17 seer. With my company discount I could purchase the 5 Ton A/C unit for around $700.00 and around $600.00 for the 4T.

Here are my questions..

1. Would it be worth the $1300.00 (plus install costs) for the better Air Conditioners?

2. What is the typical cost to have these units installed?
