can I use powder and no rinse agent in Bosch dishwasher?
Comments (32)We just had our Electrolux dishwasher installed last week. It's very quiet, can't barely tell it's running. That's very important for us as our kitchen is open to the family room and both are small. But we were shocked at how wet the dishes came out. We too tried to avoid adding more chemical to our dishes so we experimented with different options on the DW and I think we've come down to an acceptable level after a few tries. First, both Electrolux and Bosch, as well as many other new models out on the market, do not have exposed heating element. It dries dishes by condensation. Water condenses on the wall of the DW and drips down to the pan. That's why glass and silver wares (which get hotter during wash cycle) dry better than plastic. We still don't use any rinse agent, just powder dishwasher detergent. Our water heater is set to the lowest temp setting. We loaded the plastic on bottom rack to avoid water dripping down to dryer dishes. When the DW is done, keep the door close for a couple of hours (to trap the moist air in so it condenses on the DW wall). Most items are dry with the exception of plastic but we're ok with it as we expect to use less and less plastic as the kids grow older. Still love our new DW as it's so quiet, no bad smell and is supposed to use much less energy than our old one....See MoreMiele W3033 versus Miele w4842
Comments (47)4842 and 9802 were delivered today. 1st impressions: First - we loved our Asko's and hated to see them go. Install was simple stuff - the crew was in and out in about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. They assembled the washer / dryer on the stands while in the truck. Getting the washer downstairs was a chore for two big guys. Installer said the washer (on stand) weighs nearly 350. The pair is a beast on the stands. Coming from our little Asko's - this pair is huge. Fit and finish is excellent. The stands are very nice - soft close doors, a place to set a basket on - well made (ought to be for the $$). The washer is almost silent until it spins up - and then it is not nearly as loud as the 1200rpm Asko it replaced. It does shake at full spin - did not walk or anything, but a clear shake. We did not consider the dryer to be noisy - but it clearly moves moves more air than any dryer we have had before. We did not install the solid aluminum vent pipe as recommended by sales person and folks on this forum. I bought it and installer encouraged us to try the flex aluminum vent pipe he brought with him. We agreed to try it and it was fine - returned the solid vent material today. The wife is very pleased - thought her first load of whites came out cleaner than the Asko - which is saying something. I talked her into these - would have been trouble if they did not perform at least as well as what she had. Quick wash (on cold) was about 30 minutes - Normal wash about an hour. More later after we get some experience....See MoreMiele for less $$ than Electrolux or Samsung?
Comments (13)mihai914, Miele just started a promo for May (in Canada) for a free 10 year warranty on any appliance purchased. I'm considering a new dishwasher .... :) My machines are installed in my basement laundry room which has tile over concrete. I find them quite quiet but my install makes a big difference. I have a friend who has them installed in a second floor laundry and they are slightly noisier. They are custom home builders though and they reinforce the floors knowing Miele's are going in there. I don't find them bad. LG/Samsung WILL be quieter. While Miele has gotten much better with their newer suspension system it still isn't the same as the VRT in Samsung or TrueBalance Anti-Vibration System in LG. Like me, you should do a pro/con list and decide what is most important to you. I had narrowed it down to the LG WM3885 vs Miele. The LG was larger with more features like steam in the washer and dryer. I really did like the LG - I loved its lights and "whistles". In the end, I went with Miele - giving up larger capacity and whistles for, what I hope, will be a superior wash and durability. So far I'm very pleased - leaps ahead of my last machines. Of course I can't say how happy I would have been with the LG as I've never owned one. My parents have new entry level LGs and they are very happy with them. When they saw my Mieles for the first time, my mother commented how "solid" they looked. She said they looked like quality appliances (FWIW). My sales guy has been to Germany to see Miele manufacturing first hand and he told me, "no one builds them like Miele". He said if they had a Miele machine opened up in the store and a competitors - people would be able to see what they are paying for (it's all under the hood as he called it). The components are superior to what the others are using (ie. cast iron cradle vs. concrete)....See MoreOMG...I've found the Original April Fresh Downy Scent
Comments (34)P&G, ruined GAIN Sweet Sizzle in wash scent beads a while back. They changed it to the EXACT awful, candy, sweet, chemical smell that ruined April Fresh Downy. I know I've said this 10x, but I think P&G lost the rights to the original April Fresh Scent, that a famed French perfume house created in the 60's/70's. When I ask P&G about this, they will not comment. There are 1000's of complaints, and consumers begging P&G to return April Fresh to it's original soft, powdery scent...but they do not, they cannot. They even just recently changed the Downy April Fresh Dryer sheets....they too, are the new, awful scent!! :(...See Morelarsi_gw
