A lesson learned (I hope) A vent

I bought a netbook off ebay, it was $149.99 from the US (so I thought). Never again will I buy anything that might be from China. I had to return my "US" netbook to China today and the cost for shipping and registerd mail was $37.21 for just 2+ LBS. Pay pal did credit me $20 for shipping but boy was it a pain to go through all this.

Beware when buying that its from the USA in case of a return unless the price is very low and you can afford to just keep it.

I had to have a tracking number in order to get a refund so thats why I had to register it :^(

Now I think I should have just tried to sell it. It did work but not what I wanted. They also said it was New, but it had prints all over it and someones email address was in the netbook.

I would report it to ebay and paypal that it was obviously not new as was advertised so you should not be out all that expense. False advertising.

I would complain about it as well, Ebay frowns on liars, Joann. I have a friend that bought a watch from one of the replica companies, she thought it was in the US, it turns out that it was in China. She had to return it, what a hassle, so she just kept it. I guess it was a joke for a friend but it turned out the that joke was on her.

I'm sorry you had to find that out the hard way, it stinks.

Well, if it's what I do, it's simply "mounding" mulch up over the bud union, or even a few inches up onto the canes to keep the plant from losing moisture. I also have (in the past) saved many roses doing that. If I receive roses that have no swollen budeyes, it's a must-do for me, even in my warmer climate. If the budeyes are swollen and showing green or red, then I don't worry so much about mounding them. I know they are already starting to grow. I have only one rose so far this season that I've had to mound. It's a huge SIGNATURE from J&P. It's got no budeyes showing and it's looking really dry. I've been careful not to overwater tho, because sometimes that'll finish them off. I keep checking to see if anything looks like it's sprouting, but so far no go. In the past I've had to cut the entire upper growth off because it just dried up. But pull up that mulch, and there's new canes emerging from the bud union. We'll see if it works this time. Now I just hope the rest of my pending rose orders all come in already sprouting!!

my MIL has psych problems, she lived in a small garage apartment on our property..she is a hoarder.. even her car was piled with stuff..trash, papers, magazines. broken dishes,art supplies, baskets, plastic containers, receipts, tax business papers from 10 years ago, old clothes, bags of recycling bottles and cans and filthy old smelly musty and moth ball smelling stuff.. helping her clean i once found a ketchup bottle in a plastic bag under an easy chair. it was so old it was dark brown.. she remarried, has moved 800 miles away and i am still finding her crap in the garage. this is after she had 2 dumpsters filled within 12 months.. i have not been to the new place.. i can only wonder.. i do not mind clutter..if the house is clean, floors, windows, sinks and counters, porch, patio, outside of appliances, bathroom, etc.. but that kind of trash and hoarding is really sad. she never taught her son how to clean or be organized and guess who is stuck holding the (garbage) bag? hahahaha i love my man and he is smart and organized at work, when he comes home it is a whole other story.. i am getting ready for winter and cleaning closets and cabinets and putting summer things away and getting out he winter stuff..ugh,,we have literally 2 closets..so things have to go to the garage and shed.. and when i get the place back together i have to put my foot down and set some rules.. EVERYTHING has a home and it's place....especially bad when the kids were living at home, small house, before they flew the coop, what is so hard about putting it back after you use it? and if you drop a potato chip or some food or paper or twist tie or something on the floor why can't some people pick it up? they leave it and will walk by it 10 times!!!! i just tell myself to forgive, they know not what they do...

I learned having a vegetable garden is great! No kidding, it's my first year having my own. Pretty modest start, with a single 4'x8' raised bed, then again, I don't have a ton of estate on my small suburban lot. What I grew in there: two red tomato plants, three cherry tomato plants, one Italian, three cucumber plants, a few green beans, some shallots. Got a nice steady harvest of cucumber starting in mid-summer. Got plenty of tomatoes from all plants, but season was late for everything and still have lots of green ones on there, but they are plump and large. Have started to eat some a few weeks ago. Had our first frost a couple of days ago, but I cover with a tarp whenever there is a nightly threat. September weather has been really nice so far though, maybe not ideal for kick-starting the ripening process, but it's starting to get a bit crappier now, maybe things will progress a bit faster. I may have 50-60% of my crop still on the plants. I was lucky and did not get any significant pest or disease and I did nothing to prevent it really. For next season, I plan on having two more raised beds of same dimension as well as growing a few plants in large containers/buckets. I learned I should space tomato plants more than 12" apart, as I was told by someone who gave me seedlings. I should also figure out the support scheme before I need it. Same for cucumbers.

I know this is an old thread but it makes me grin. Rosie, are you still able to keep numbers down? I was around here when you were just getting back into av plants, (remember shihtzu4su?) and I do believe we did a trade or two and you sent me some kcups! I went thru the same thing you did... I was expecting my third child in 2015, and - get this - even LOOKING at a violet gave me an attack of morning sickness! At that point I had six shelves full of African violets and babies, and I couldn't handle taking care of them. So I started pitching.. And giving away, and narrowed it down to three shelves and one narrow window sill for minis. That winter I started pitching even some of my mature plants because they looked so awful, and I was paranoid about non-existent bugs. I was down to maybe 10 standards and 10 minis! After my child was born, I still wasn't interested in violets much anymore, tho the poor things did finally get repotted and watered! This spring I finally started caring for them again. Put them on wicks, groomed them regular, and actually fertilized them! They are rewarding me with bowers of flowers! I have a total of around 60 av plants now... (That's 40 plants and 20 diff varieties with leaves down) Most are minis, because they seem to suit me better. :) I understand the throwing out stuff now too... Whew. Was hard on me then but I do it callously now! :D Anyhow thanks for the chuckles. the way this thread switched directions half way thru had me laughing.

Good luck if you were to try and prove your situation...it is not as easy as it seems when you complain to ebay. The old saying of "buyer be ware" rings too true with ebay!
Also...no offense but if you think $37.21 is terrible for shipping....you should try being Canadian and getting something from the U.S.A. I seldom if ever buy from ebay now.

I am sorry this happen to you! I appreciate you warning us about your problem. I have bought things from Hong Kong before but they were all small ticket items, and have never had a problem thus far. I sure will be careful, thanks to your advice. I had a problem with a U.S.A. seller before Christmas, but it was resolved when I got paypal involved.

If you ever want to buy ANYTHING off Ebay, ask the seller first (before you bid) if the item is US made.

Jannie, the way I read it, it's not that it was made in China, rather the seller was in China and had to return it to the seller, in China.

The way I look at ebay is no matter whether it's "new in the sealed box" or not, it's still a used item. I wouldn't buy without a substantial discount unless I can't get the item locally or from a known source. I've had mostly good experiences with ebay, but a couple bad ones. One was downright fraud and neither ebay nor Paypal were cooperative on it and after looking around a bit more this vendor is notorious for these issues. Caveat emptor. And sometimes we learn lessons the hard way. I know I have a few times.

Sorry for your troubles. Don't let it get you down too much, for your own sake.
