Help me pick backsplash/paint color

Trying to complete kitchen. Can you vote on the best paint for the kitchen - White cabinets, Black granite? BM Kennebunkport green, Kittery Point Green, or Putnam Ivory? Also should we do simple white subway tile or do a framed harlequin over range?? Thanks!

What color will the dining room be? That would help posters give you advice about whether to go green or ivory?

When I painted my current kitchen, I narrowed it down to Kittery Point Green and Sherwood Green. I'm looking at the chips right now! I went with the latter, as I found the Kittery to be too pastel. If you don't mind the contrast, I'd go with the darker Kennebunkport. (I think the Sherwood is in the middle).

I meant to post about my colors today, I am thinking about BM Homestead Green (AC-19) which looks blue to me.

Everything's looking great so far! Good luck with your remaining decisions.

Kittery seems a little too "sea foam" to me. I like kennebunport, but it will give a lot of contrast to the cabs. Putnam is a very nice neutral - it all depends on if you want color!

I like the one on the right. but I sort of like the one on the left too. sorry. It's just 2 different looks. That being said, you need to do the "squint" test. I think the lighter tile on the left will appear to give you a white-ish color--so stand back, squint your eyes at the painted backsplash area now--do you like what you see or would you want it darker? Maybe do the test again with the tile on the counter--where you have counters so as to get the full effect. If you want it to look really rich, then darker. If you want to keep it light, then the lighter one. I think both will look nice, seriously. I say pour yourself a cup of tea, and sit down and just stare at it. It will come to you. It is sort of like a meditation type of thing. If anybody is home, they will wonder if you are "ok".

Thanks for the feedback and compliments on the granite everyone. It sounds like all of you are on the same page and think I should wait. I am having a hard time figuring out how to make that happen. Our kitchen project is a remodel and we hired a general contractor to do the work. His crew does most of the work. Our project is scheduled to take six weeks. With the lead time on the tile, I can't wait until the cabinets and granite are installed and still have the backsplash completed as part of the project. Would you all still just wait? The pictures were taken in my current kitchen and the amount of lighting won't be changing. We live in a heavily shaded area and we have very little natural light in our kitchen even with windows along the back of the house. The amount of light wont be a lot different in the new kitchen. I know the piece of granite is just a small part of the slab but with some of the grey and tan tones in the floor tile I thought the smoke would work better overall. I think I am going to drive myself crazy with all of the decisions that have to be made before this project is over...

Had to step away from the computer in mid-post (renovation going on even as I type), and you got a lot of great responses I hadn't seen when I completed my post! All the options Boxerpups posted look great to me, sort of what I had in mind. You could go with the brick pattern tile (like in the 2nd option you listed) or all square, either one. I think we often get caught up in the design process, wanting everything to "pop", when really we need to step back & let some of the design be plainer & highlight other aspects. I am still having to convince my husband we need a plainer backsplash to offset the very busy granite we both like! However, neither of us likes completely plain, solid-color subway tile backsplash....

My previous home has miles of pine v-match wainscot and eave walls, with wood floors in oak and pine. Floors and wainscot were finished in a clear poly, and we easily had every shade seen in your kitchen (from these photos) from the darker ruddy brown to the paler cabinet colors. With the natural lighting and smaller, low ceiling rooms, we found that saturated colors worked best with all the wood tones. The green below is SW Sassy Green. All this to say I think a saturated mid-tone green or orange would look good in that space. A few years ago, a kitchen reveal was posted on here of a kitchen that was done to reflect the MCM roots of the house, and they used a mosaic tile in bright shades small square tiles, and it looked perfect in the kitchen. I don't know wether it would work with that granite, though. Alas, I cannot find that kitchen again. Good luck! I hope it was not too hard to leave your fab previous kitchen!

I like Kittery or Putnam. Simple white subway will look great.

I'm partial to the Kennebunkport green and white subway tile. You can't go wrong with white Subway tile as far as I'm concerned.

My dining room is painted BM Kennebunkport. I attached a pic in case it might help. My trim is off-white. It's a fairly saturated color and looks more so in person that it does in this photo.

Think I will do Kennebunkport in kitchen - it is a beautiful color. Would the dining room that has a pass through to kitchen work with Alexandria Beige?
