The Kitchen Table

And Sam is twree! 7 photos

Sam's third birthday was Nov. 27. That was the same week my cousin was killed. With trying to deal with her loss and continue the minimum of holidays, Sam's birthday was put on hold.

He shared Harry's day with his very own celebration.

He had his own cake plate...

He luuuuuvvvved the treats...

He had his ears cleaned and toenails cut, and his red beard combed out. His other name is "Black Jack Barbarosa, The Pirate Puppy." He had a bath last week so he stayed home with me while Harry went to town.

Sam thinks personal grooming is highly over-rated.

But trying to snag the used cotton balls is fun.

Tag-teaming Papa with Harry is great fun.

And yes, Sam was a cute puppy, too! He was just so much more "work" than Harry ever was. He's the second from the left, top row. Isn't that a sweet, innocent looking, furry little angel? It's all a scam! LOL This was taken at the breeders.

Harmonyp, I completely agree with you about doing what is best for your wallet. You really have a kind heart and perhaps your roses like it and their growth reflects it. I sincerely believe that plants and animals have an inane ability to see our inside and react towards us accordingly. I think the main theme of most of the comments is to buy the best you can, and support the true rose lover's (the nurseries) as much as possible. Sometimes our wallets force us to act otherwise. I really don't care about the wallymart that much, but I end up going there because certain items are really cheap there and shopping for those saves me a bunch at the end of the month. I know that probably hurts a small mom and pop business, but my wallet almost forces me to overlook that. I try to reduce my shopping there to the bare minimum for that reason. I wish I could stop going there. Anyway, does someone know why my supposedly intensely fragrant roses from sams and hd are not fragrant, even if they appear to the be the right cultivar? Thanks.

Floota, You have, as always gorgeous blooms beautifully photographed. There are so many to satisfy those of us who love purples and reds. Toucan Sam is really, really lucious. I am very fond of Lucky Streak and the pictures of Amethyst Tears and Alechymist are beautifully showcased. I love Karol Emmerich's and your are a real ad for them, and Michael Davisson is beautiful! Altogether a very satisfying visual vist to your garden. kay

I can't wait to see the finished pictures. I have a love/hate relationship to remodeling. Mostly love. We did our whole house in OT and the finished product was fantastic! Just that the house was in the wrong place :-)

Thanks Jim!!!! I'm still really excited about it working!!! I have some news about my eyes. I went to the retinal specialist. They put 3 different types of drops in my eyes. I had to pry my eyes open so they could keep going with the drops. Blech. So he said that I have retinal deterioration. Do I have RP (retinitis pigmentosa - where you get tunnel vision and go blind). He said maybe. I asked if there's a chance I could go blind. He said that it isn't a matter of when, but that I'm probably legally blind ALREADY!!! So he's sending me (in a few months probably) for this procedure that's like an EKG for the eyes. If it shows that I'm legally blind, then I won't be able to drive anymore. This would be terrible, because I have trouble walking around where I live because of all of the inclines/declines - it's hard on my ankles, and I just got over having ankle tendinitis (a whole year of it). I love driving to the off-leash areas to take my dogs for a walk. It's so much fun. Anyways, the good news is that he said my vision will get gradually worse - but very slowly. So if I'm not legally blind yet, then I can probably drive for a few more years. Now, I'm asking for prayers that: a) I'm not legally blind b) that I can handle being legally blind if I am. Thanks everyone!! Carol

Sam & Harry are quite the pair of dudes. Not quite sure if Sammer is enjoying the ear cleaning/attention or just plain bored!

Tobygirl, as I recall they're Deutsch Drahthaars (spelling is iffy). The hat and lei just makes me chuckle. My little Lhasa probably wouldn't have put up with it, even with all the treats! Although he did wear the reindeer antlers for a while.

Hope things have calmed down for you Caroline. Best wishes to you and yours! Spring's not far away so those pups will be able to find some mudholes to splash through.

There's a thought bubble above Sam's head in the first picture, and it says "Ohhh, I can't believe they put a hat and lei on me! I HOPE none of my friends see this on Facebook!"

Great photos, such beautiful dogs!
