I wonder if they work on a machine that is on the first floor with pedastals?

The GVI Pads should be placed on the floor under the feet of the Pedestal and they are very effective against vibration. There is no reason these will not work as they are a remedial form of base isolation. However, the durometer of the material will eventually harden and require replacement. Expensive for what they represent, but hey, I'm not offering another less expensive solution.

I don't dispute the benefit of the pads. I know they are helpful. However....

In my experience the number one cause of unacceptable vibration from these machines is simply that their own internal suspension isn't working as it should. The number one reason for that is that those suspension components are not allowed to bear equally on the supporting feet...so they can't do what they're designed to do. "LEVELING" ISN'T THE PROBLEM. Anything close to level is fine. Equal or nearly-equal bearing on the feet is what is needed. Installers and most owners just eyeball the installation and walk away. The proper way is to do that, but......then load the machine and wait until the spin cycle. When it's spinning full-tilt and under load, be ready to tweek one of the front feet. Usually a fraction of a turn makes all the difference in the world. Since doing this with my five-year-old Duet 9400, (on slab) I went from unacceptable vibration to practically zero almost instantly. The machine hasn't moved a hair in five years since. Many other people who have done this have reported similar results.

In my experience, this pretty much works every time on slab installations. Often it does on suspended floors also although suspended floors are not always capable of required support regardless.

Well, helpful doesn't begin to even describe what they've done for us. On a slab foundation, it vibrated but not enough to walk or distrupt our household and 2 repair people told me that was as good as it gets...grrrr. For the hefty price we paid for these machines I wasn't to pleased with the response but figured whatever. However, after moving to the midwest and into a home with a basement and only subflooring for the living areas, it was a nightmare. I don't care if they will eventually harden and need to be replaced, IMHO it's a small price to pay when compared to the anxiety I was having before we started using them.

When you say "slab", are you referring to concrete slab?

Yes...concrete slab...in my case with linoleum on top.

That's my identical set up.....Linoleum on concrete. At times I will get some vibration....but 90% of the time, it pretty smooth.....A few occasions it will "vibrate" but when I say that, I don't mean vibrations like some of the horrible vibration vids I've seen on youtube; still, sometimes it doesn't balance the load as well as it could.

What about the "Shake Away" pads that they sell at Lowes? Has anyone used these and did they work well?

when I was researching to buy the ones I bought, I did not find good reviews for the ones at Lowes. The top of the ones I bought have an inset where the foot goes so they'll never slip off the pad. If I remember correctly, the pads sold at Lowes don't and as a result, the machine will vibrate right off of them. They also don't absorb the vibration as well.

Thanks for the heads up. I will return these to Lowes and try to get the ones you have. My floor is slab, but has vinyl tiles on it and the weight of the washer has made an indention in it, especially on the right front, so we are moving it over a little bit, so i wanted to put something under it, or get one of the mats that have been suggested in other threads.

I guess nobody's paying any attention. I don't care. I don't have to.

Good luck with the mats...or whatever...notwithstanding the evidence you've already seen right in front of your own eyes.

I do have a question about the pads. what is the thickness in measurment? I have to stack my set, and i am a little over 5'4, so i am wondering if it would put the dryer dial out of reach. If they are too thick, then i may have to get a Cow Mat instead.

Rose, My best guess is about 1 - 1 1/2 inches. At the beginning of the thread, I posted a link to the website in response to a poster. You may want to access the site and ask the distributor directly. There is an indent in the pad so that the foot can sit in it and not come out.

So they raise your units 1 1/8" from where they are now.

Anyway barring the rudeness of some members, We live in home with a sub floor and The anti vibration pads from Lowe's & home depot helped a little but not much I even tried the infamous "tweek one of the front feet" method to no avail.
I could get it somewhat better with a combination of all of the above but if you have sub wood flooring chances are you just don't have the support built in.
I ran across these and tried them as a last ditch effort.

I have to say I was HIGHLY skeptical after trying two other types but after I installed them they reduced the vibration and shaking of the machine by 95%!!
I know they sound to good to be true but most of the time if I'm in the other room I do not even know that my washer is even going through a spin cycle!
before the washer would rattle and shake the whole flooring! you could feel the washer anywhere in the house through the vibration in the floor.
There a little strange to look at, very small not like the HUGE rubber thing I got through Home Depot.
Bottom line they work and work VERY WELL!
Try them out you won't be sorry.

Glad you've got your machine working as you'd like. Certainly suspended floors can be a tough nut. Vibration-wise, some are capable of attenuation and some aren't. Equal or nearly-equal bearing on the feet is still a primary consideration with or without help from pads. Unless the machine's suspension components are allowed to function according to their designed purpose the machine can't perform as its supposed to. Nothing "infamous" about the concept.
