I admire Heston Blumenthal. I seriously doubt that with his focus and accomplishmentd in the art and science of gastronomy that he would be interested in making cookware.

My fantasy would be to eat in his restaurant, the FAT DUCK. To make a reservation, you need to call two months ahead. Calling two month in advance may not mean you are going to get a reservation.

I think it will cost you about $1,000 per meal, but the experience is worth $2,000.

I would call the set a "leaverite"....as in leave her right there....

They say it's from Lebonstain in Italy... I also found Blumenthal & Wise Cookware... Unfortunately all the sites I found, with Bing, are wholesaler's sites who want your name, address, telephone number and business e-mail address... BUT the sites I checked out mention China.

Hahaha Dcarch. I KNEW you'd be an admirer of his. I've seen a few of his shows, and don't know where. Probably our Food Network, but they aren't on anymore. Our lovely Food channel keeps dropping actual food shows e.g. Big Daddy, Tyler Florence etc (whom I really like), in favour of competitions and huge gastronomical pigs who can see who can eat the largest and greasiest concoctions.

Anyway, the google searches I came up with showed some for sale on Kijiji.......$250-$500. They have glass lids, and a built-in thermometer. Use less water and fats for cooking. 18/10 I think. I just don't know anything about them, and wondered if you folks had. I thought they might have been German made but I could be mistaken.

If I am understanding correctly,
There are two 'brands',
Blumenthal-Wise Cookware,
And Blumenthal Bavaria Cookware.

The sites I read certainly make it sound good,
But I had never heard of it before.
Maybe it is pretty much a Canadian thing?

Can you actually visually inspect it,
And put your hands on it?
(as opppsed to ordering sight unseen).
Would he offer any kind of return policy?

I've never heard of that rand either, but your description sounds a lot like the "waterless" cookware that's been marketed here for outrageous prices for years by direct markets.

I found it the waterless stuff really cheap on Amazon, 18/10 surgical stainless, thermometers in lids, etc. Just type in waterless cookware and I did find one book called something like "Is that newfangled cookware safe" by Dale Blumenthal. since the selling point of the waterless stuff is that everything else is bad for you, it seems like there could be a connection...

Annie, I was thinking about the same thing.

For sure Heston Blumenthal has nothing to do with "Waterless cookware". The whole concept does not make much scientific sense to me.

I have never found glass lids useful. You still need to lift them to see what's going on because it is always steamed up. The thermometer in the glass lid's knob can't be measuring temperature of food accurately. Why surgical stainless steel? 7 layers of metal will not make it better then 3-ply for heat distribution.

Direct marketing, dcarch. The woman who did the "free dinner" for Amanda was pushing hard on the cookware, with the glass lids and the thermometer, she could cook things just right, without fat, the surgical steel was so "pure", etc. We were poisoning ourselves and our children with non-stick and aluminum would give us all Alzheimer's, we needed to buy several thousand dollars worth of cookware RIGHT NOW!

I asked a lot of the "wrong" questions, pointed out that all the food was bland, asked where she went to school since she was passing herself off as a "chef", did she have a degree? I also had to tell her that I'd owned a health food store, that the studies linking aluminum and Alzheimer's were found to be flawed and more evidence was not yet available, that her thermometer was of no use in telling the temperature of the food itself.

She didn't like me, and she didn't make a sale, although it actually was pretty nice cookware. Just not thousands of dollars worth of nice.
