Can we talk about our current swap?

Okay so this is my first swap and I just received the name of the person I am making my package for. I'm very excited.

Have done a few searches here and not coming up with a lot in the way of learning about past swaps. Maybe I am doing something wrong in my searching. Wondering though, what do people send in their boxes? What have you received that really knocked your socks off? Do you all send prepared foods like already made cookies/brownies etc.,? I'm really curious.

I haven't found many posts by my recipient to try and get a good feel for them. That's okay, I know it will work out but I'd love to hear from those who have enjoyed the swaps before on what kind of loot made it neat for you.

knows ..... it's the first time for me, too.

When exterior materials of different coefficients of expansion are rigidly attached to one another, they will eventually fail. Therefore, the attachment detail of veneer materials not only needs to allow water to drain, it must allow the materials to move independently. This is why the original "brick veneer" system had a cavity between the structural wall and a wythe of brick 4" thick and the brick was supported on a ledge and attached to the wall with flexible ties. A stone veneer wall was the same with 4" thick stone. I've designed and built many buildings with this system. Designing a tile-like cladding for a wood framed wall is difficult even in warm, dry climates. Some good systems were described in this thread 5 years ago. I'm not sure why cultured stone would perform worse than natural stone except that it absorbs more moisture, however, the joints do that anyway and in the photos above, the cultured stone doesn't appear to have cracked.

The front table lamps look like they are "lit" by an off-camera studio light, although perhaps only partially. Notice the shadows on the floor and the lack of hot spot. Whereas the floor lamp and wall sconce in the background appear to be wired in. This being a movie set, it's quite possible that the cords are running through holes drilled in the furniture and down to a raised stage floor where there's a mass of wiring underneath. Channeling cable through furniture and wiring stuff to a main lighting board is a heck of a lot cheaper than losing an actress for months, throwing off your shooting schedule and putting investors and an entire crew on hold while a broken leg heals well enough to finish filming. An overzealous art director with Photoshop *should* have fixed all the shadows on the floor when there's no bright light source in the room coming from right about where that loft is. So I'm guessing it's not retouched, at least not heavily.

I like Burt's Bees shampoo & conditioner, especially the new one "Super Shiny" because it tames my dry hair. However, there was a BB's product I tried years ago that was so awful it actually caused me pain. I'm referring to the Theraputic Bath Crystals. When I put it in the bath water my skin felt like it was been burnt alive. I couldn't jump out of the water fast enough. I've read reviews where others have had the same reaction but most people don't seem to experience a problem so I guess it depends on how sensitive your skin it. Mikasa...years ago I bought a couple of their white soup bowls open stock and loved how durable they were. So was I surprised a few years later to see how much the quality had changed when I bought an extra one. Utensils left ugly marks on the bowl that didn't wash out, even a spoon was removing the finish. I thought surely this is a fluke so I got another one and the same thing happened. Don't know what Mikasa changed but that product has gone downhill since I first bought it.

Timely subject. Our neighborhood just received our property tax assessments for 2016, payable in 2017. Our property taxes have gone up 45%. Our home values have not. We had a refi appraisal within the last year & our home value was less than the current property taxes, prior to this increase. A 45% increase & our taxes are already high. Illinois is number 50, of 50 states, in public pension debt. In the recent past, the federal government has given Illinois stimulus money for education. The majority of that money has NOT gone to schools & students - it has paid for pension debt. We're going to need another bailout from the states that have been fiscally responsible. Edit: We will be appealing - we do every year. The first time we used an attorney, whose fee was 50% of of the tax savings. Then we started doing it ourselves. We have the choice to appeal based on "uniformity" or "overvaluation." "Uniformity" involves collecting & submitting comps of other comparable homes. "Overvaluation" is submitting a home appraisal with a date of Jan 1, 2016 so we get tax credit for the entire year. We've had better results with the home appraisal, overvaluation method. Everyone in our neighborhood's home value has jumped up by between $200,000 - $400,000, according to the taxing authority. I'd have no problem with it if our home value had truly increased, but it hasn't.

Oh, Kate if this is your first swap you are gonna have a lot of fun! I've been doing them forever and am always thrilled and surprised with what I receive!

I have gotten some pretty amazing items in all my years of doing the CF swaps. Once I received a fabulous package from Coranado, California that had 5 different heirloom tomato seeds along with homemade zest of many diferent citrus, dried peppers, and a beautiful homemade card!

Then I got a FABULOUS plate from Oklahoma that was thrown in a kiln and horsehair was then put on top of the plate. Absoulutly beautiful and I think of my friend everytime I look at it displayed on my bookcase.

I got a great box from California with lots of wine and spices. The box also contained many other wonderful things like, plates that reminded me of my partner everytime I use them.

Colorado sent me a beautiful glass platter that hangs in a special place in my home along with some serving spoons. I use the spoons almost daily! Especially with my Grandson! He loves to have his food served to him with these special spoons.

Another beautiful package was from California that contained some beautiful old (carnival glass) bowls. They just happen to match my dining walls perfectly. I use them all the time for candy when we have a party. I happen to love OLD decorative items to display in my home from all over the world!

I don't want anyone that has been my partner think I've forgotten them...never! There are just to many to list ;-)

I guess in short words, ;-), I absoulutly love everything I have ever received in a swap.

Just have fun with this swap and enjoy what will come to you in the mail! I can hardly contain myself when my box arrives! So fun!
