My husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer the end of April 2013. On July 6 our daughter got married and he was able to walk her down the aisle. He died Aug 24th. We have a DVD video of the ceremony and reception that our son and a friend made. I just got a new computer that would play it so last night I started watching it. After a couple minutes I turned if off because I was crying from seeing my husband in it. Someday I might be able to watch it.

there is so much 'hype' here in UK. It is supposed to be a national holiday (day off work) but my lovely boss (being sarcastic here) decided we should keep the garden center open and have a big screen tv in the coffee shop so people (shoppers NOT employees) can watch it. We've sold t towels, mugs, coloring books, sticker books, paper doll books etc. I hope the couple can enjoy their day even with the millions watching/reporting on their every move. Diane

My friends should be flying home soon from his son's wedding in St. Lucia that took place last Saturday. A girl I work with got married 4 years ago in Tahiti, the pictures are gorgeous. It's a great idea if you have enough advance notice and can swing the travel expenses. Were you referring to expenses for the guests or you and your groom?

It is an important day for sure, but Auntjen made some great points. Here's some stuff we did for my daughter's wedding and it was a beautiful ceremony and great fun at the reception. - Dress on sale--that should be a given. Daughter made her own veil with a ring of flowers from Michael's and tulle. - Bridesmaids (only 2) dresses were made by groom's grandmother at minimum cost. - Kept guest list to mainly family (86 people). - Found a florist--a young girl with an impressive album of her work that did the chapel and reception (not in the same place) for practically nothing. It was beautiful. - Wedding was at 1 p.m. followed by the reception, so we had a couple of canapes (including some really good crab somethings) followed by finger sandwiches, beautiful strawberries dipped in chocolate, veg. platters and other finger food. Too early for a big dinner. - We served beer, wine, sodas, water and coffee. Mixed drinks were available, however. - The reception was held at a hotel on the water and the reception room had french doors leading out to a deck where they set up the bar. Nice water view. The hotel was new and they were looking for repeat business or hoping for new business from the guests. - No band. They didn't want one since they don't dance. There was music, just no band or DJ. - No favors. Don't know how that custom got started, but I don't buy it. - Splurged on the cake. Man, it was good! People are still talking about that cake today. There wasn't a single piece left and it was a big three layer. The whole thing was way under $2500. Granted it was 14 years ago, but it was inexpensive even for then. Whatever you decide, I hope you have a wonderful wedding and life. Enjoy!

Rose, I am so sorry for your loss. My husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on Jan. 2, 2007 and died April 17th, 2007.

I am so sorry for your loss. Someday you will be abl to enjoy it! I experienced something similar, and it took awhile to heal. Give yourself a bir of time!

Pancreatic cancer claimed my beloved mom too, in 2011. My brother has a video of her in happy times that I couldn't watch either for a while because it was too painful. People say time heals and I know what that means, except I think it really doesn't heal, it is just that you learn over time to live with your loss. It gets easier. One thing I did, was write down stories of my mom, what it was like for her growing up at Christmas for example. And I sent that one out to her friends and our relatives in a Christmas card last year.

Rose, one day you will be able to watch that video and be so glad you have it. Especially when you have grandkids and can show it to them as well, telling them stories about their grandfather and your life together with their mom as a little girl...

Rose, my DH passed away, also from cancer, so I definitely empathize with you. Time does heal, but it also leaves a scar.

I understand about the video, and how it made you cry. I think the time will come when you and your DD and her DH can watch it together, and while tears are falling you will remember all the good things about that day, and more than likely, some humorous things, too, and you will have a new kind of peace in your heart. I believe tears are therapeutic.

Hugs, Rose, I know how you feel. I lost my husband in 2010.

I remember afterward, walking down the hall to the LR, and hearing his voice, only to find that my daughter was playing a video that she'd stored on her laptop. Instant joy, followed by tears.
