Advice on making a poundcake!

The other day I tried a new poundcake recipe. I went and bought a tube pan and the recipe said to bake anywhere from 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours. I have an old oven so I needed the full 1 1/2 plus a few more minutes. The thing is the cake on the sides looked almost burnt. Thank goodness it didn't taste that way. I thought I'd attempt to make another on Friday and instead of putting the oven temp at 350, should I drop it maybe to 325 and just cook it longer?

I don't want it to looked burned. I was worried about the cake pan leaking so I put a pizza pan underneath it. Do you think this is why the cake did this? Any help would be appreciated. In reading reviews many actually mentioned it took just 1 hour to bake, not in my oven.
