Sharon and Clive go to church....LOL

My good friends arrived in Tulsa via Route 66 yesterday afternoon. They wanted to try some more BBQ so we headed down to midtown and had lunch at Elmer's BBQ, one of many joints in the city. Sharon had the pulled pork and Clive and I shared a combo platter for two. Ribs, pork, sausage, hot links, slaw and beans. I forgot my camera but I think they may have a pic to share.

After lunch I took on a short tour of the city. Mainly to show them some of the many art deco building we have here. We stopped at the Boston Avenue Methodist Church for a short tour. I was feeling so spirtual after that, lol, I had to take them out to Oral Roberts University to show them the very unique and futuristic buildings on campus. Again, I think they have pics.

Headed back to the house for cocktails and munchies with a few of my friends and family.

It was a fabulous time but as always way to short. Clive is such a cool guy....he had me ROFL more than once. It was a pleasure to finally get to meet the infamous "himself"! My friends and family just loved the heck out of them and we all had a great evening together.

They headed out this morning and were going to try to make the Texas border I think. It was great seeing you two!!!Drive safe and enjoy the rest of your 66 adventure.

I already miss ya!!

David, You are sooo cool!! What a spread; I'm sure the tour wowed Sharon and Clive too. I'm glad that your family could see with their own eyes your "make believe" friends!

It's not working!! He went with me to pick up the DGC then to the pet store for supplies. After looking at the pets, I went to check out and asked him to wait at he door with the kids while I checked. 2 minutes later I couldn't find them. I freaked out after 15 minutes of running through the store, calling on his cell phone, having the staff call for them on the PA system. The PetSmart manager came running to me trying to calm me down. Customers volunteered to run through the store and some spread out to check the other stores in the strip mall. I left the store and waited outside because I was making a fool of myself. He finally came from the back of the store saying "are you looking for us?". He was in the bathroom with the kids and Beau got locked in the stall then no TP (which just won't work for Beau) so he had Lily crawl under the door to help Beau. Sharon, Could Clive take Raymond on as an apprentice? He goes to HD and his eyes glaze over. When you went on your Rt 66 trip, I read your updates to DH daily. He was all for it. Jessica, Because Raymond doesn't know that we have yard tools, he took my $150 - 9" Wusthof Cook's knife to the back yard to cut stink vines from the fence. I couldn't find the knife for weeks and found it stuck in the oak tree. He left it there when he finished with the vines. The tree grew around it. Since it was already ruined, I swore to leave it there as a symbol of life with Raymond

Here we are in Lake Charles LA and lots more to to say about that later!!! We had such a great time with the SA gang! Brenda , Sally, Mae and their families were an absolute delight to be with. Thanks Brenda for putting it all together. Lunch was so much fun and we had a great visit. Brenda and Sally are not very good with instructions and brought some wonderful treats for all of us. Sally the peanut brittle is all gone! Brenda if they stop us at the border becuase of those small plastic bags with all that dry green grassy stuff in it...we'll call you for bail! LOL We both loved San Antonio, what a great city, so pretty and well done but we loved the chance to meet up with some CF friends even more. Thanks again Brenda! Here are the four amigos at Rosarios

Hi Guys! Let me tell you we had a blast! However it seems the the master technician did something, or didn't do something, with the camera and the pictures he took are on the internal memory vs the SD card ( this is being dictated to me ,I have no flippin' idea what it means) anyhow the upshot is no pics until we get home!!!! Himseklf didn't bring some sort of cable!!! As for the border crossing. The guards were very friendy, professional and kind but.....seems that our picnic lunch contained 6 oranges and violated import laws so....they pulled us over. I told them to take the oranges but I guess orange smugglers are high risk because we had to pull over, go inside and be interviwed by an agricultural expert...nice guy who I could tell would rather be dealing with something else. Anyhow they had to search the car for more contraband, they took the oranges and we were on our way....in just a bit nore than an hour! They truly were kind and nice and just doing their job but.....the worst part was werbeing in this smallish space with all the others that needed checking....I was sanitizing my hands, face, feet et all ! LOL Today we enjoyed a leisurely drive to Chicago and an lovely afternoon in nthis fabulous city. It's gorgeous! Tomoorw we have some things we want to see and do and then it's off to drinks and dinner with nPeppi! Woo Hoo! Oh to keep this food related, I had a Chicago style Hot Dog for lunch....could , should had two...excellent! More later

I love it all! Thanks for the pictures, David, I'm getting a little verklempt (and I'm not being funny, I really mean it). Its just so great that you two got to have a reunion and of course that you got to meet himself :)

Hey how come all the girls are blond and color coordinated? Are they like a singing group or something?

It looks like a blast! You sure put on a nice "spread" and lunch sounds like something that would be right up my alley! I'm sure everyone had a blast,and ditto that the church is one spectacular piece of architecture!

What a beautiful table you set! Everything looks scrumptious and I'm full! LOL! It looks like the gang was having a wonderful time and I know you all must have laughed till your sides hurt.

What a delicious looking table! And a great looking group! How wonderful that Sharon and Clive were able to visit you, David, while on their Route 66 trek. But the rest of us not along the route feel a little left out about now. ;o(

Wow! I have alot to live up to when Sharon and Clive finally get here.

Your spead is amazing! I'm so glad you got to hug your pal. I can't wait to see them.

I have to tell y'all that Sharon had a hand in prepping that table too. We hung out in the kitchen getting everything ready for later that evening. When all was said and done Clive had the DW loaded up and ready to go before I could blink an eye. They are tool cool that's for sure.

Clive's Thunderbird was a hit too....the girls loved it and even had their pics taken in it...I'll leave it at that because it was quite the scene!!

Sorry for being late to post but by the time we got settled in last night I was whacked. Not that it had anything to do with partying with David and his folk!!!

I can't begin to tell you what a wonderful host David is! We had such a good time. The lunch was amazing and I'm hard pressed to pick who has the best BBQ St Louis or Tulsa but I can tell you I'm hooked on it!

The place David took us was right out of the 50's. As I said the food was amazing. I still have no clue what the waitress was saying but David seemed to get it! LOL

Tulsa is a beautiful city and the art deco is so beautiful. The church was amazing, never have seen anything like it.

Meeting David's family and friends was a real treat , greta folk who made us feel right at home. David sisters , especially Susan, fell in love with the car ....what a fun photo op we had !

I'll probably be in trouble for posting theses but........

Hey, looks like you had a fabulous time! The food looks wonderful, and y'all look like one big happy family :) This really is fun, watching Sharon & Clive progress across the country.

And how perfectly diplomatic about the BBQ, Sharon. Can't decide between Tulsa & St. Louis BBQ. Well, we know secretly whose is best. (wink wink, nudge nudge...)

David, the dinner looks delicious and I'm glad Sharon and Clive got to meet your family and vice versa.

Oh yeah, that's a great church! I'm a heathen Methodist myself and White Cloud sure doesn't have a church anything like that, wow.

Oh what fun! Such nice people, great food and groovy car. I wish Route 66 came through Philadelphia. We do have a Route 76 -- will that do??

Weed, Sharon is sooooooooooooooo not diplomatic, LOLOL!

And Annie, my personal preference might be any of your choices, or some variations thereof, can't really say on the forum - Spike might be listening!

I'm really so happy for Sharon making this trip - Ken wants to know when Clive's part of the trip starts :)

Now that looks like a fun time! David, your home is beautiful and love that spread. The bar has been set pretty high for SA...glad I'm not doing BBQ..whew, might not have a chance there. Too cool that your family got a chance to meet Sharon and Clive.

Sharon and Clive: I love the car. Have a safe and fun venture to CA. Be careful when coming here on I-10...the speed varies from 80 to 60...you'll more than likely see no Hwy patrol on 80's but look out on 70's and 60's zones.
