Sharon and Clive...new old friends

We just had the best evening with some new old friends. After several years, I got to hug a good freind and her DH this evening. They pulled up in front of my house and we went into big hugs and then on to a wonderful evening of talk (not about any of you, we were to busy) and a very nice German dinner.

I think Clive is a bit wonderfully amazed at how we all click here but Sharon and I knew this. They came by for drinks and a fast garden tour and then on to dinner at the Edelwiess, a local family owned German establishment. We talked so much we completly forgot to take photos of our dinners but we did, thanks to Clive, get some of us after we had eaten. You will have to wait to post them. Sorry!

Since we goofed on photos, here is a recap of the dinners. Sharon and I both had the Weiner schnitzel with red cabbage and the bratkatoffel(German home/cottage fries full of bacon and onion) while Clive must have enjoyed the roladen as all was gone from his plate and my Dad had the Holstein schnitzel, a veal cutlet with a fried egg on top.

They are both so warm and true. For those of you on thier path, you are in for a real treat in meeting them. The CF family grows.

And for new members here, if you get a chance to meet other members, take it. You will have made freinds for life. How often do you meet some one in person, and at the end of an evening do you say "stay safe and I love you"? We did tonight.

Onward to Weed, David, Brenda, Karen and the whole California group, give them both another big hug from me and Dad and enjoy them as much as we did.

Sounds like y'all had a great time Peppi! I already know you are a wonderful host so I know for sure Sharon and Clive had a great time and welcome to the the windy city from you and your DD. Who needs pics...I feel the love and agree that if you ever have the chance to meet up with a member/friend from here.. DO IT!!!

I know how much Peppi has been looking forward to this get together. There was no doubt that is was going to be a great time! Sharon, your choice of CF members to get together with reads like my speed dial list.

Rose of sharon not only respond to the air temperature and the amount of direct light they receive when it comes to fully breaking dormancy. But they also require for the ground to as warm as the like it before they will leaf out. Could it be that those that are leafed out have already begun receiving all those aspects I mentioned above; while the ones slow to leaf are lacking in any of the requirements I mentioned above? Or at the very least had those requirements met a much later time than those others. Even if trees that are planted in a row often show such differences in their growth rates, and resistance levels

v1rtu0s1ty - if you want seeds let me know. I have pure white, pink & white w/maroon throat that I can harvest seeds from later this fall. BTW - I've never had any volunteers from mine nor has my neighbor but a friend in the next town west of me gets dozens every year from her mature plant that has white flowers w/maroon throat. I might still have some seeds for a blue flowered one that I harvested along the road last year. Let me know if you're interested.

That's probably very good advice because I just moved 3 of them last week and they're looking bad. They have drooping leaves that are now turning yellow. I'm thinking they're probably not going to make it.

Hi Guys! Let me tell you we had a blast! However it seems the the master technician did something, or didn't do something, with the camera and the pictures he took are on the internal memory vs the SD card ( this is being dictated to me ,I have no flippin' idea what it means) anyhow the upshot is no pics until we get home!!!! Himseklf didn't bring some sort of cable!!! As for the border crossing. The guards were very friendy, professional and kind but.....seems that our picnic lunch contained 6 oranges and violated import laws so....they pulled us over. I told them to take the oranges but I guess orange smugglers are high risk because we had to pull over, go inside and be interviwed by an agricultural expert...nice guy who I could tell would rather be dealing with something else. Anyhow they had to search the car for more contraband, they took the oranges and we were on our way....in just a bit nore than an hour! They truly were kind and nice and just doing their job but.....the worst part was werbeing in this smallish space with all the others that needed checking....I was sanitizing my hands, face, feet et all ! LOL Today we enjoyed a leisurely drive to Chicago and an lovely afternoon in nthis fabulous city. It's gorgeous! Tomoorw we have some things we want to see and do and then it's off to drinks and dinner with nPeppi! Woo Hoo! Oh to keep this food related, I had a Chicago style Hot Dog for lunch....could , should had two...excellent! More later

Peppi, I know that Sharon and Clive are still smiling. I did, when we (Ellen, David, Cathy and I) went to your beautiful home and had dinner with you, your Mom and Dad. That's a memory I hold dear to my heart.

LOL Cathy! What a grand concept! Speed dial...I need you to come over and show me how to set mine up :-)

I'm looking forward to all the other visits, especially mine!

Peppi it sounds like you all had a wonderful time! And I can just taste those German dishes.....mmmm some of my favourites.

Of course how could you not enjoy each other's company, when you're such great people!

I'm definitely on the same page with all of you insofar as how special it is to meet our cooking friends in person! If there is any initial awkwardness, it normally disappears in about 30 seconds, LOL, at least in my pleasant experience!

What fun! And no surprise that it turned out that way. I'm lucky enough to have met several CFers and I know the feeling!

I'm really looking forward to meeting Sharon and Clive when they are in San Antonio. Safe travels to you both!

Speed dial? Heck, I have to remember to just charge the darned phone at all, LOL.

I agree with Peppi, if you have any chance to meet a CF member, do it. It's always just like any other group of good friends getting together, and it's always a good time.

Of course, Peppi is a great hostess, so I knew Sharon and Clive would be comfortable there, and her Dad is a sweetheart.

As for Sharon and Clive, I'm still sending the "great weather" vibes for them as they continue on their way.

Here we are somewhere in Illinois!!!

The day started off in Chicago which is a beautiful and amazing city. If you have never been there you must go. One of the most beautiful cities I have been to. Of course after seeing what New York City did in honour of my visit there, Chicago had to make sure there was a tribute to me here too!

As amzing as Chicago is the highlight of the day was dinner last night, with Peppi and her Dad. We had a wonderful time. As Peppi said, it was like visiting with old friends, which of course Peppi and I are, but I particularly loved how well Peppi's Dad and Clive got on. They really hit it off!

Peppi's choice of restaurants was excellent, great German food! Thanks Peppi for your wonderful hospitality! It was so special.

Tomorrow hopefully we will meet up with Weed for lunch

Our Rte 66 adventure has been so much fun so far...minus the oranges , minus the two lost episodes today! LOL

My favorite picture is of Augie! What a sweetheart that man is.

The Chase Promenade brings back memories of when I worked in Chicago for a week shortly after we (JPMorgan Chase) bought Bank One.

Of course Augie and Clive got along well, I can't imagine anyone not being able to get along with either of them.

Sharon, does Clive understand what a rock star you are? I'm sure he does now. He must think, "Wow, look at the great friends my wife has all over the country."

What a wonderful picture of you all together! But I must say, I love love love the one of Peppi and Sharon together.

Auggie is a very special and charming man. Not to steal your thunder Peppi, but, you know how I feel about Dad ;-).

So glad to hear you guys are having a good time. Looking forward to the next wave of action.

Annie, I was thinking along those same lines...I haven't met peppi or her dad, but I can't imagine Sharon and Clive not getting along with anyone, and not making anyone feel like they aren't comfortable "old" friends...

Great pics of some even greater CF friends!

Having spent a considerable amount of time with Peppi, and meeting her dad last month, I can tell you there are not two nicer people on the planet! Waiting for the day when I get to meet Sharon and Clive, too!
