Do you enjoy mangoes?

I just bought some frozen chopped and thought they might kick up my daily oatmeal a notch!

Love fresh mangos.....letting all that juice run down my chin.
I have never tried frozen ones but they sound good.

1. Flower Walk. Like you, I take the Flower Walk every day, usually after work. I love to see what's blooming, what's going to bloom, etc. I pull a couple weeds--nothing major. 2. Photographing Flowers. I love to take pictures of my flowers. I share them with a group on this website and FB. I put many flower pictures on my Want List/Have List. 3. My flower addiction (hey, I'm not gambling or drinking) has spread to the local parks. I volunteer at the parks and take care of flower beds there. It's been a few years so they are starting to look much better. 4. Flowers by the Street. I specifically wanted my flowers to be by the street so many people could see them. They could drive by, walk by, whatever. Of course right now I'm thinking of putting up a sign such as, "You can pick you President. You can pick your Nose. But please don't pick the flowers." I think that's too strong, but I've considered it. There is a retarded girl who loves my flowers. Her mom and her caretaker bring her by. She likes to pick her favorite one of the day--depending on what's blooming. So I get that warm fuzzy feeling when I share my flowers with people. You might not see people enjoying your flowers, but I bet they do. Enjoy them the way you want and don't feel guilty in any way. If you like to sit in a lawn chair and sip lemonade...do it! I do also enjoy weeding when it's on my time. I like being outside in the air. I also like weeding and listening to my radio. My flowers are my joy and my THERAPY and my addiction. Like so many of you here, I've always been very affected by my surroundings. Be it a classroom, a home, work, business, restaurant, shop, etc. Depressing-to-me places make me want to be anywhere else. Inviting places, do just the opposite. This need is what inspires and strongly urges us to create nurturing, beautiful-to-us places to live and work. I've personally felt this way as far back as I can remember. A four year old telling my mother that we needed to move the sofa here or a painting there . . . and drawing my own "paintings" on the walls where I thought they should be when she didn't comply, complete with frames . . . using her many lipsticks. I like that I've been able to create a warm, inviting, beautiful, nurturing home for myself, my family and friends. I did it with my first apartment and every place I've lived in since. And, yes, I love to enjoy my rooms and vignettes when they're finished. Our living room and master bedroom cocoon me. Our kitchen inspires me. Our family room is a great place to lounge with feet up on the coffee table and visit with family or friends. They invite me in. Make me smile. Nurture me. Admiring them comes with the territory (LOL). "Savor" is an even better way to describe it. These warm Summer days, it's my small, walled garden that calls me most often. My flowers are all madly blooming now. The fountain attracts all sorts of our mountain birds. The high adobe walls cocoon me, while still letting in the view of our mountains behind us. I love sitting out there in the morning, patio umbrellas open, and after dark with the garden and tree lights on, admiring and enjoying everything while I read a bit or chat with DH. It may not be everyone's perfect garden or home, but isn't that what makes each of our homes special? They work for us. Make us happy. Nurture us. And, if we're wise, we allow ourselves times to sit back and just savor it all.

I gave up my car when I moved to downtown Charleston, so I spend a lot of time just walking and riding my bicycle to get around the city. I used to do yoga and ballet, but thus far have not found any classes here that I can afford. I do enjoy cooking, but do not like to bake, as I seem to have no "sweet tooth." I love to try new dishes. I am in a lively French conversation group that meets weekly; our "leader" is a French native. I also enroll each semester in history classes at the nearby college, which is only 7 minutes away by bicycle. That enables me to utilize the wonderful college library. I enjoy being on campus and talking to the students. When I have free time, I also like to explore on foot the historic neighborhoods of Charleston, and take in the gardens. Day-trips with friends to visit the plantations are also enjoyable. I used to dabble a bit in genealogy, but seem to have gotten away from that. I do like to "surf" the Internet and am in a few "chatrooms" (forums).

Being retired and having my pensions arriving, I'm fortunate to not have immediate financial concerns and having lived alone for years, I am used to that. Our church is providing daily inspirational messages and provides a partial Sunday service on their site and gatherings of several on various occasions on Zoom. I've been working on developing telephone trees with them and family and friends. Also wondering about taping a message on various stranger's storm doors in a local neighbourhood asking if they have become stir crazy yet ... and might be interested in talking to an old guy from the 1930s whose telephone in childhood on a farm nearby was a big box on the wall with a stem like a tulip sticking out of the front to take one's talk and a listening tube on a wire that hung on the side of the box. One rang a series of long and short rings to call local neighbours and there was a signal to call a central operator who would call people at a greater distance. A question for you gardenweb friends - have you thought that someday you'd like to develop some latent interest lying unpursued in your psyche? Maybe this would be a good time to rouse it from slumber. Also give some thought to evaluating your life: as you look at yourself in the mirror, are you reasonably, quietly and rather humbly pleased with the person that you see? Maybe to consider improving some errors or defects, putting things right with friends where you feel that you had done them some wrong? I hope that you can exit this period a better person than the one who entered it. Good wishes for your journey through this time and as you participate in the "new normal" after. ole joyfuelled

I love them too, fresh or frozen! I just bought a couple bags of the frozen to make sorbet in my new vitamix!

I used to love them, but now I am alergic to them.
My lips swell up and my whole mouth will tingle. It took
me awhile to figure out what was happening.
I believe they belong to the same family as poison sumac.

Love them. Buy when they are on sale then freeze for later use.

There is nothing better than to reach up pick one off the tree and eat it. Oh, how I miss being able to do just that. The ones I buy at the grocery just doesn't have the same flavor. I have never seen the frozen ones, I will have to look for them. Thanks for the good memories Glenda.

I love them and even bought the OXO mango cutter to make it easier to get it off the pit. Those sweet, juicy fruits are slippery when you cut them up.

Dice some up and add them to a spinach salad, yummy.

Be sure to wash around your mouth and face and hands after you eat mango or it will make your lips swell. I LOVE mangoes.

I use them in cooking a lot, especially with chicken. Fresh ones make a great salsa too.

I love Mangos - eat them with my cereal.

Pkramer, where did you buy your OXO mango cutter? I don't like the struggle to get that darned pit out!

If I hadn't first started eating them off a tree, I wouldn't like them very much. Having one fresh off a tree is like heaven. Eating one from our super market is awful. I do like the frozen mangos with the mixed fruit, or the canned juice. Still enjoy a COLD glass of Guava/Mango juice once in a while.

Golly, I don't think I've ever seen one in a store here, in N. Minnesota. So I've never tasted them. I wonder, some have mentioned having an allergy, and their lips swelling. Is that anything like fresh pineapple? I like them, but if I eat anymore than just a tiny taste, my mouth gets sore. Which makes me wonder, My daughter ordered us the fruit of the month membership, We are finishing off the box of (12) Honeybell oranges, Yumm, and shared with neighbors. One of the months is going to be a pineapple, and wonder how I will use it.

Kay, I bought mine at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I bet Amazon has it too, they have everything! You still have to get the peel off but I just dice and slice.

Glenda, I'll have to try them frozen. I just hate trying to slice those slippery devils! The frozen food companies (and nutritionists) all say frozen is next best thing to fresh. But what's fresh? Sometimes broccoli will sit in the frig for days before I get around to cooking it. Take that time and the amount of time it took to get to the grocery and amount of shelf time before I bought it and I can see why frozen at it's peak of ripeness would be better nutritionally and probably flavor.
