Have You Gotten Much Accomplished Today?

I got some laundry done, dishes washed, used the Roomba, used the steam mop, and Cheryl came out and helped me pack and box up the rest of the Christmas stuff and stacked in the garage. I watched KC while she went into town and bought her groceries. She gave me two nice table cloths, in gold, a round one and one 102 inches. She also gave me two nice two piece blouses, one purple and one red. I have not tried them on yet. I also got some nice rolls of Christmas wrapping paper for next year. I guess they were all after Christmas good deals. She said for me to lock my door when she left because you never know when some unstable person might walk in. I told her I know, he comes in every evening after five. She agreed and laughed. So I am pretty much not doing anything more for the rest of the day. How has your day been going?

It's been a good day. I went to tap class this morning and this afternoon headed a committee which met with officials at Memorial University of Newfoundland to arrange the donation of several thousands of dollars to the scholarship fund at our provincial university on behalf of our alumnae assocation.

Aunt Jen, Hope you come back here and see this reply to you! This might get a little long, but since every woman is different, I feel like you need to know MY circumstances. I always swore I would never take hormones! I was just going to tough it out. I am 47 and "think" I have been in perimenopause for almost 10 years. I was having super heavy bleeding and it had gotten to the point where I couldn't leave the house for a couple of days, and then it was 3 weeks on and one week off! ugh! My gyn had offered in the past for me to take birth control pills to help with the bleeding. Well I also had a tubal ligation 20 years ago and it just didn't settle right with me to take birth control pills. So I just kept "dealing" with it. Then last year it got bad enough that I was going to have a hysterectomy. I was all prepared, and my mother n law was diagnosed wtih Brain Cancer. My DH was the only caretaker living close by, so I knew I couldn't put him through caring for him dying mom and me trying to recuperate from a hysterectomy and still go to work everyday. So, my gyn and I decided I should try an endometrial ablation. It has been a miracle! I have not had one period in a year's time! woohoo! So I do still have my ovaries. Around Christmas last year, I started having strong heart palpitations in the middle of the night when I would get up to go potty. I couldn't believe that walking like 10 steps to and from the bathroom would cause such a thing, and I was convinced I was fixing to have a heart attack or something major! I went to a cardiologist, and convinced him to do a stres test on me, also a chemical one, and everything showed up fine. My blood pressure was up a little, so he put me on a beta blocker, but it's a low dosage. Then later in the spring, I started feeling sort of dizzy, light headed, like I might pass out...even had that feeling driving to church one morning...that really scared me! I just felt very strange and very wierd. And then at the same time, the hot flashes at night started...it felt like 20 times a night I was pushing the covers down, and then 5 minutes later pulling them back up because I was freezing. Not easy to sleep with all that going on!!! So, it got to the point, I was not getting much sleep, and then during the day, the wierd head feeling( i was convinced I had a brain tumor) was keeping me from functioning. I found myself waiting for my hubby to get home from work, and then asking him to drive me to Walmart or to the grocery store, etc...becaue I was too scared to go by myself, for fear of passing out somewhere. It was awful! Then, I had a breakthrough thanks to ThatHOmesite! There is a menopause message board on here, and I started reading threads there and OMG! There were threads about, wierd head feeling, palpitations, feeling like you are going to pass out...and most of these women were right around my age!!!! I couldn't believe it! So, I printed all those things out, and took them to my gyn at my annual checkup in June. I talked to her about it, and she knew I had never wanted to take hormones, and she was also concerned about be taking them so that they didn't start to build up the lining of my uterus that she had ablated. So she recommended I go to our compounding pharmacy and get a saliva testing kit...it was $170 out of my pocket, but I was so desperate, it was worth every penny! So I spit in a tube, and mailed it off to Oregon. A couple of weeks later, the results came back in and my hormones were WAY out of whack AND my adrenals were exhausted. So to answer your question...=), I am on a progeserone/estrogen cream that I use twice daily right now. This cream is made just for me according to my results. There is also a long questionnaire that you fill out about all your symptoms. I am also on DHEA and adrenal forte, to get my adrenals working the way they should again. I started all this about 6 weeks ago, and the difference it has made in my life has been life changing! I would say I am at least 50% better already, maybe even 75% and I feel so much stronger during the day, I have actually been able to start exercising. Couldn't even do that before! The hot flashes at night have all but gone away...there might be a couple sometime, but they are very mild and I seem to fall back asleep easier than I was. I still wake up during the night now, for what reason I don't know. I am going to try cutting out all caffeine, even though I don't consume much of it anyway. But it came down to quality vs. quantity of life for me, and I wound up choosing quality. I have seen my 91 year old mother, be miserable, with not much quality of life, and I just decided I would rather enjoy my life now, instead of just trying to go for quantity of years and be miserable later. I am still trying to take care of myself, in fact, I feel like doing that now where as before the hormones, I really didn't care! So I hope this somewhat helps you. Sorry it took so long to explain, just wanted you to know my own situation. You have to decide what's best for you!

I don't need it....nothing....don't need anything more.... BUT....today I went to the $ store because I needed several gift bags....and while I was there...I just had to walk around...and bought 3 glass pinch bowls...I was getting along just fine with custard cups...but... AND I got a new dishwasher last week...but that was because my 22 year old trusty Maytag died. I know better then to buy one of the newer Maytags (the ex CEO was a very good friend and next door neighbor and when he made all those trips to China and Japan, I figured it out!).. Anyhow I got a Jenn Aire....I know they are in the business of down draft vent systems....but it's a hotsy totsy model, likely last years but I made the dealer an offer...prepared to up it....and he said OK. Surprise! But its' not "fun" in the way that a new stock pot would be...I still am trying to figure out the best way to load the thing! Also got 2 new YeehaH stoves for the church...I bucked the people who said why do we need to spend that for stoves.....and I splained why!! Because I cook on them and you don't! I think I need new potholders.....mine are beyond awful...and people give me oven mits and I feel clumsy using them, so I save them for the grill. I Have a fairly nice assortment of Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's day potholders...but I need some simple every day ones that don't have burned corners and the stuffing hanging out. Linda C

Mission(s) accomplished: -got up, took dogs out, changed bed, put sheets in washer, went to grocery store, went back home, put sheets in dryer -went to work, on morning break returned a pair of pants and bought lottery tickets -on lunch took dogs out, made two batches of apple pie filling, folded sheets -back to work, paid parking ticket on afternoon break -hair done right after work, plus eyebrows -dogs out again, grocery store AGAIN so I won't have to go on Saturday (main purpose in the morning was to pick up apples to make filling at lunch) , ran dishwasher while making two apple pies, unloaded dishwasher, did the hand dishes and cleaned up the pastry mess, took the compost out, did a couple of little things in the greenhouse -waiting to watch movie with son and his girlfriend. *Btw... I was a little frazzled and took a gulp of egg wash instead of the peach juice I meant to drink. Yuck.

My goodness, we needed this. You guys are incredible. Look at all those things you do every day you don't even recognize! Pollying, Painting, vacuuming, caring, choosing, stocking, washing, (stop me) all without losing your sanity for falling over dead. Of exhaustion, I mean, right? Today I went to get a new social security card. Unfortunately they moved without notifying me. The NERVE. So, what's a girl to do? [Gimme a Hell YA!"] Go thrifting. Visited H4H in Riverdale (MD) and the antique/2nd hand/junk store next to it. They also took a break and didn't notify me. The sign said to come back later, but NO, this chick's on a roll! Off to Baltimore (MD) I charged. 2nd Chance, here I come. Oh, my are they putting in new furniture all the time. No Orphan beaded inset cabinets, so I passed on that. I did find some side lights to accompany my other side lights I picked up before. I'm going to make closet doors out of them. Way cool. I also couldn't resist a pair of 30" doors with horizontal grids on their glass. They're gonna need some work, but that's just fine. What am I going to do with them? I have no idea if I tell you I'll have to kill you. Picked up a face frame delivery from [drum roll] Brian and The Cabinet Joint.com. I am SO psyched about this. Beaded inset, of course. Met with a Garden Web Mid-Atlantic Gardening member who is going to lease an acre of my land (A whopping $100 a year for water) to grow ... PEONIES! She is opening a nursery needs a place to grow them. PEONIES! Managed not to spend my Multi-purpose Fred's drywall money. My MBR looks great with all skim coated drywall. I am Hap-peeeee! Now, I'm gonna take a nap. I should mow the lawn, since I never go to it, but it's gonna be there when I decide to hack it down.

Wanted to go to the movies with DH to see Avatar, but it was sold out (Martin Luther King Day) so we bought tickets for tomorrow. Made a Key Lime pie for dessert. We're just having sandwiches tonight.

A little laundry, a little vacuuming, let the dog in and out and in and out and...you get the picture. (Sorry to see it thawing a little because that means muddy paws.)

I've corresponded with a couple of people interested in booking our condo for the January and February dates I cancelled because we can't go. (DH isn't feeling well.) Booked two parties for November dates.

Talked to the pharmacist and the doctor's office four times, setting up blood work and office visits for DH.

Fielded calls from the company coming Wed. to pick up the defective mattress we bought a month ago and have already replaced.

Talked with DH about converting his IRA to a Roth-IRA. (I think you have to be an accountant to figure the pro's and con's of that!)

Time now to open the refrigerator door and see what's in there for dinner. Salmon, I think. Good thing I bought that expensive (99-cents) lemon, huh?

I went to book club this morning, came home for 1/2 hour and then left for bridge....just a fun day, nothing much accomplished.

Started out good...load of laundry, emptied the dish washer, and vacuumed. Took the girls to the playground to burn off some energy. During Katie's naptime I was supposed to fold 2 loads of laundry and somehow ended up popping popcorn and watching tv with Olivia.

And I posted some poker chips on Freecycle. I hope someone takes them so I can start to have a little more room in our closet!

I finished painting my bathroom, did 2 loads of laundry, sorted through my junk drawer, and am about to go out and shovel - blech. Fortunately my "plow guy" came so all I have to do is the steps, the walk, and the car. Before bedtime I will have put all of the wall items back on the bathroom walls, folded the laundry, and vacuumed. Today is a holiday from work for me so I always have plenty of projects to work on. I am sorry I didn't finish up more, but sometimes I just decide to vegitate.

-Did all the routine housework; tidying, laundry, cleaning, cooking, bla bla bla....

- Did schoolwork with the kids

- Prepared a lesson on "Life in the Andes" for Sophie and Benjamin to do in the next couple of days because we're learning about South America in Social Studies this month.

- Arranged a playdate for Wednesday afternoon with some good friends

- Made an appointment to bring our new stray cat to the animal shelter to register him as lost and check for a microchip

- Bundled the kids up and sent them off with Claude to their swimming lessons

- Sitting down to relax for a bit in a quiet house!

Same ol', same ol' around here, but I love it. :)

I finished watching a movie I started watching last night. Put my work PDA on the charger. Went out to eat. Picked up the mail. Didn't get upset over an assessment notice. That's about it! But it felt SO nice outside!

We've listed the house for sale. Today the photographer and stagers came by. OMG! Things really changed! DH's recliner chair is now in the crawl space, plus alot of other furniture. He was sooo shocked! Wow! The house does look bigger! Hopefully it will sell soon. We head for Costa Rica for the month of February, so we're hoping it sells while we're there. That way it will stay clean and we and the dog won't be here to mess it up! But until we go, we'll have to keep it spotless! Aarrgh!

Not a darn thing...but while you were sleeping I was jetting to San Francisco and back to Atlanta...so I slept from 9 to 2 and now I'm just vegging...I'm gonna get off here soon and do some laundry and read a book!

Cleaned kitchen at church with friends, then we sat and had coffee for an hour or so. Decided I needed a haircut, and girl said she could take me later on in PM, so I dawdled around, sewed on a quilt, talked to the cats, etc. Not really much accomplished, but that's OK, too.

No school today for MLK day. Tried to run to the store for an onion- that's all. Wanted to put a pot roast in the oven. But my minivan's battery was dead, not a bit of power. Jump started it and went to WalMart for a new one. That done, I *thought* it was 1:30 and was happy with my time. Forgot the clock had stopped with the battery. ;o) It was 3:30, which meant DD was late for gymnastics. Err!! Rushed off to that. I managed to get some laundry done, dishes, graded a bunch of papers (but I'm only about half done 104 studeents), wrote a to do list for tomorrow, changed the sheets on one bed... never did get to that pot roast, we had to have hot dogs for dinner. ;o(

Kids are in bed and now I'm gonna finish grading and get some things ready for tomorrow and the rest of the week.

Looking at that, I guess I did get a lot done, just not as much as I wanted. Feels like I barely made a dent in what I need to get done.

Stephanie, it must have been the day to think about pot roast! LOL I cooked a small pork roast and vegetables and it sure was good!

Did laundry, took out the trash for pickup, went to DGD's basketball game (we lost...).

Just a typical day around here for me but it sure beats working away from home, thankyewverymuch! LOL
