whole foods to stop selling raw milk your action needed
Comments (8)Yes, Brandon, there are many people smarter than you and me put together that are challenging the propaganda and dogma that is out there about milk. And "clearly" contrary to your assertion, I've done a lot of reading on this subject. The CDC has plenty of smart folks in it, but like any government/corporate/scientific entity, are subject to politics. And food is a biggie. I'll be back (I've got to run to a local dairy and pick up some fresh Jersey milk!)with some other information that challenges your reliance on CDC (the same folks that threaten us with annihilation from various flu's every year)as the only source of info out there. That's not to say they don't provide important and useful information, but many of it's conclusions are swayed by money and politics. It's how the US does business. Money first, truth second. Cheers! And keep up your poking and prodding on forums! You remind me of my bro-in-law with your research and strong opinions. Keep challenging with debates! It shakes out of our complacency!...See MoreOMG my morning at Whole Foods
Comments (30)Sorry to laugh at your expense but that was funny. I don't shop are Whole Foods often mainly b/c I have other cheaper options (Trader Joes and Fresh Market). Ours is located in a "Towne Center" complex which is a mix of shops, restaurants, high rise condos, etc. Though there are multiple ways to access the center, the traffic is always crazy, especially on weekends. My kids know my rule...I don't shop on weekends unless vitally necessary (I don't work so I can easily get my errands done during the week). That said, I somehow found myself at that Towne Center yesterday at 1:30. I was looking for ski gloves last minute b/c unbeknownst to me, my dog chewed up one of my son's and he didn't tell me. And we are going skiing. Outdoor sports store is located right next to Whole Foods. As we drove into the parking garage, I'd never seen it that full and the line to exit was ridiculously long. I muttered to my boys, "this is why I have a rule about shopping on weekends!" We spent more time getting a parking space and getting in and out of the garage than we spent in the store, which aside from one pair of $65 gloves (um, no thanks), was a waste of time. Left that shopping center to another across the street, with thankfully, easy in and out parking, to go to Kohls where we found the last two pairs of gloves at 60% off. Bonus! Two pairs for less than $20! Tish, fortunately my Trader Joes has plenty of parking! There is never ever an issue getting parking there, even on the day before Thanksgiving. Coincidentally, dh is at Whole Foods now looking for vanilla bean. He couldn't find it at our nearby grocery store yesterday. Hopefully since the weather here is atrociously cold, he won't meet with a crowd....See MoreWhole Foods Disappointment
Comments (84)So does no one 'stockpile' a small amount of cash in their home safe or under a mattress *should* all banks have a breakdown of sorts, leaving no way to get cash or use debit/credit cards? How would the necessities of life be purchased if the problem were to continue for several days? I thought it strange when a friend surprised me by telling me she kept several thousand dollars in cash in her home. I was 'floored' when oldest DD's new boyfriend confided he kept close to $20k in his home safe since he truly believes there will be a major hack in the not-to-distant future, and is insuring himself some monetary security. I've chosen to follow my friend and DD's boyfriend and usually have between $4-$5 k in my home safe, which in my mind would cover the essentials for a number of days. The downside of the 'money hoard' is the possibility of those who haven't made the choice to keep a few bucks handy, *should* the worst of fears become a reality, and turn to their neighbors/ friends/family to help them, which could become a worse case scenario and violence takes over. As a woman living alone, this thought makes me shudder, and i'm not sure if the thought has occured to my friend, who also lives alone. Am I being too much of a pessimist?...See MoreMy homemade plant food, plans for future, what I should have done, etc
Comments (18)I've decided to transform the leaf mould bin into a compost bin sooner rather than later. Instead of emptying out all of the leaves, I've started incorporating grass clippings and kitchen/garden scraps into the bin, making sure it gets a good green/brown ratio. Over time, by turning the existing brown materials in with the new green materials, it should make good compost. The negative about this is that I won't be able to use this stuff for about two years, when I could have actually collected leaf mould in one year. The positive is that compost is more nutrient rich but can also be used the same way, as a top dressing or mulch, for water retention and weed suppression, but giving those plants a boost that leaf mould may not do. I'll work green materials in for about a year (or unless we get it so full that it absolutely can't hold any more) then setup another swimming pool composter up. On appx April 2018, the plan is to collect compost from the first bin. On appx April 2019, I'll collect compost from the 2nd bin. Then, April 2020, from the first bin, and on and on. Meanwhile, I'm slowly building up a small farm, with rabbits, cows, chickens, and eventually, ducks, possibly turkeys, etc. Rabbit poop = instant garden fertilizer + worm food, for vermicomposting, to collect worm castings for the garden, and the worms themselves could feed some fish, for a future aquaponics setup. Cow, chicken, duck, and turkey poop will be composted. As of right now, it's all about slowly moving forward, to try to obtain a balance, where everything works together....See Moreaachenelf z5 Mpls
