Clorox washing machine cleaner

Has anyone used this before? Is it basically the same thing as affresh or the tide cleaner?

The MSDS (material safety data sheet) shows the hazardous ingredients to be sodium hypochlorite (chlorine bleach) and sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) which are the same hazardous chemicals in good old Clorox Bleach. However, the pH of the washing machine cleaner is two clicks more alkaline than regular bleach, so there is something different about it.

The something different is sodium hydroxide. Regular liquid chlorine bleach doesn't have that.

Sodium hydroxide is lye. Very "basic", i.e. low pH.

Dissolves fats.

I have a really strong scent that is still persisting. It reminds me of those awful car air fresheners some people hang in their vehicles, or strongly scented vacuum cleaner deoderizer tablets. We went out to dinner and as soon as we walked in I could smell it in my house. It's nauseating. I took the rest of the box with the remaining two packets and set them outdoors. I can smell them through the box, and can smell it on my hands from handling the box. I'm running some baking soda through my washer right now and am hoping it gets rid of it. I won't be using it again, and will be giving Procter and Gamble a call about it tomorrow. Sandy

Did you hear the squeak squeak. It came back. I'm wondering if the cabinet is rubbing on the frame. I don't know. Sometimes the agitation is really loud like clunk clunk clunk. But when the sears guy took the cabinet off and had it running it was quite. I think because the cabinet has no insulation that it makes the noises twice as loud. I'm just gonna leave it alone for now and just mention to sear when they come on the 26th about the neutral drain, spin drain problem and see what they say! At least it's washing and I should enjoy it. Although the water level temp has now broken completely and just turns inside the panel. So I've had to leave it on the super wash for now.

I have no issues with my washer having smell or anything, but I brought to see what it's like along with Affresh. Tide did have lots of fizz on it, and WOW, did it leave a strong Tide perfume smell!! The smell stayed in the washer for a week. I end up throwing rest of it away since it was too much for me. Affresh left a nice scent that I did not mind at all. I've only used it a couple of times as a "preventive maintance" on my washer. Here is a link that might be useful: Video of Tide in use.

Sodium hydroxide is also an ingredient in regular liquid Clorox Bleach, so there is nothing different in that regard.

Household bleach is a 6.0 percent solution of sodium hypochlorite and water.

The very tiny amount of sodium hydroxide (lye) is in there because it is left over from the bleach manufacturing process.

Clorox Bleach MSDS says it contains less than two-tenths of one percent sodium hydroxide
