Miele Novotronic W 1918 Washer and Miele Novotronic T 1515 Dryer

This seems high? Any thoughts? And what would be reasonable?

Oops, yes. Asking price of $2000. Seems high to me and she is not very negotiable
If anyone knows where else to look (this is craigslist and I have also tried ebay), let me know.
Because I have miele currently and they are built in, other brands will not work :-(

4842 and 9802 were delivered today. 1st impressions: First - we loved our Asko's and hated to see them go. Install was simple stuff - the crew was in and out in about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. They assembled the washer / dryer on the stands while in the truck. Getting the washer downstairs was a chore for two big guys. Installer said the washer (on stand) weighs nearly 350. The pair is a beast on the stands. Coming from our little Asko's - this pair is huge. Fit and finish is excellent. The stands are very nice - soft close doors, a place to set a basket on - well made (ought to be for the $$). The washer is almost silent until it spins up - and then it is not nearly as loud as the 1200rpm Asko it replaced. It does shake at full spin - did not walk or anything, but a clear shake. We did not consider the dryer to be noisy - but it clearly moves moves more air than any dryer we have had before. We did not install the solid aluminum vent pipe as recommended by sales person and folks on this forum. I bought it and installer encouraged us to try the flex aluminum vent pipe he brought with him. We agreed to try it and it was fine - returned the solid vent material today. The wife is very pleased - thought her first load of whites came out cleaner than the Asko - which is saying something. I talked her into these - would have been trouble if they did not perform at least as well as what she had. Quick wash (on cold) was about 30 minutes - Normal wash about an hour. More later after we get some experience.

As it is an older model and Miele parts are not so easy to find, your best bet would be to call Miele. I have 24" Askos and a stacking kit was not required.

Love, love, love, the 1918 machines. No experince with the dryer, though I have an Asko condenser dryer. Perhaps you could sell it if you find a regularly vented dryer that can pair with the 1918. Condenser dryers are not quite as efficient as regualr dryers, but you could use it until you find something to swap it out with. If you do buy the washer, I'll be glad to help with any questions. You can download the owners' manual on the Canadian Miele site - the US one didn't have last time I looked, which was a few years ago. The 1918 is a long-cyle default machine (though it has a rapid wash feature). I do queen sized bedding in them with no problem. I am sure you could do king-sized sheets, duvet covers, and perhaps, mattress pads depending on the filling. I doubt you wash KS down comforters (or any KS comforter). I can do QS medium-weight down comforters, and of course. full-sized ones of all weights. I'm not sure what sized machine you are used to, but as a test you could weigh a basket (adjusting for tare) of a typical normal load. If it weighs 11 lbs or less, it would fit nicely in the 1918. Most people who take the trouble to do this are actually surprised. If you wash a great deal of synthetic fabrics (esp. permanet press items like pants and dress shirts) you will have to dial the laod size down somewhat as those sorts of loads need to be smaller to avoid wrinkling. But for general wash (sheets, towels, all cotton shirts, play clothes, household and kitchen laundry, jeans, kids clothes, etc.) the 11 lb size is right on the money. This is dry weight, of course. The machine is down the basement now! Cleaning pics. The machine did not have any scale build up. There were some iron colored grit in the cold intake valve screw thingy. I vacuumed it out and the inner valve of black plastic was clean. The white plastic screen (1st to be removed) were still in good shape. The existing hoses look sound. this is after a quick wipe down: This was eventually cleaned better than this, but the gaskets were still stained: this was after a wipe down. It did come cleaner still: some scratching on the glass I hope that isn't an indication the bearings are bad. I hope it's from too many unzipped and unbuttoned jeans being washed: Hosing out the detergent drawer receptacle. I used this dish washing stuff on the boot, but it didn't work well. I switched to bleach and Dawn in water. Much better: Lint trap draining the water I was hosing into the detergent drawer opening. I hope hosing the area didn't cause any harm. easy clean! the dials and buttons are all intact: ETA: corrections to all my typos made with my iphone.

Prices of used Miele laundry machines are all over the place. People who know what they have ask high prices (but usually not *that* high, more like $1200 for the pair). But some people move into a house with Mieles in them and think it's some low-budget off-brand they've never heard of, and would rather have something made by GE or Whirlpool that was bigger, and put them on sale for cheap (the 240v power requirement for the washer is a dealbreaker for many would-be buyers too - hopefully they have the double-outlet breaker box that plugs into a US-standard 240v/30a dryer outlet and powers both machines which are each 240v/15a, but note there are two kinds, one with a 4-prong plug with seperate grounding and one with a 3-prong plug with combined neutral and ground. Being a pure 240v appliance with no 120v parts, I don't think they actually use the neutral wire even if present). I bought my Miele W1926 (4" deeper version of W1918) used in good condition for $200 if I recall correctly, and have seen them for $50, or a pair of that vintage (late '90s) for a few hundred.

Craigslist tends to be much cheaper for appliances than eBay, especially since the latter probably aren't located nearby. If you're near a large city and don't mind waiting, I'd pass at that price, but if you need them now or don't want an uncertain wait of undetermined length - if similar machines show up at all - you may want to consider them. In my area (near DC), reasonably priced used Miele sets show up on CL about every 3 months.

The W1918 and W1926 were their best washers IMO - very easy to use and to-the-point controls and a powerful internal 240 volt heater. They were dumbed down after that. I haven't used their dryers so can't speak to how good they are.
