Women with retired DH's - how do you stand it? (vent)

DH has only been home a week and a half because of the lay off and I am already going up the wall. First of all, I was use to being on my own all week and only saw him on the weekend for almost 5 years. He lived in the city where he worked so he wouldn't have to commute 2 hours each way. He just couldn't do it because of bad knees and back. I wasn't happy with it at first but soon got use to it and really enjoyed all that time to myself.

Now that he is around 24/7 I am having a hard time adjusting. He also wants to be around me constantly and run errands with me, he says to save gas. Now I know he is feeling a little lost without the routine of his job, but I need space. We have talked about it and he has eased up on being by my side all the time. And he has a ton of things he can do, but I think he is depressed somewhat and can't really focus. I know a lot of men still identify with their job as being their whole life and he is one of them.

I have tried to be understanding and tippy toe around the place and just listen till I am ready to burst. But I can only take so much and it is beginning to show. We have been getting a little snapish at each other the last couple of days and even had a major clearing of the air. I just can't imagine this going on forever if he never finds another job. I just want our old life back, wishful thinking I know. Besides couseling, which he would never agree to, any suggestions?

Thanks for listening.

Clare
