Jeez my leg looks like Hell....;-)

Well...had my Saphenous (sp???) varicose vein(s) stripped from my left leg early yesterday morning. From groin to ankle.

"Trans-illuminated phlebectomy" operation I believe it's called....basically a liposuction tube/cutter/vacuum

(sorry...not tryin' to be gross)

It was a whole 5deg. above 0 at 6am too! I think we were back home around 10am. Actual operating time was ~ 35min. I believe.

Whole leg is wrapped in wide Ace-strips with "sheet-gauze" underneath. The top has slid down some, and i can see all the Black-&-Blue. Uffda!! Looks like someone drove a car over my upper thigh!!!

(I can only guess what the more (formerly) vein-lumpy area around my calf will look like....)

Stairs are slow, since I can't bend the leg much will all that wrap. Getting in the car takes a bit too!

I see the Dr. for a follow-up on Mon.am. He'll unwrap and look at the leg. Then I think I just need to wear wrap from knee-down.

Then...Dec. 8th is leg #2!

Follow doctor's orders and don't push it - take advantage of your helpers ;-) Hope it just looks like hell and isn't very painful.

Thank you for putting words and humor to the frustration many of us have experienced in trying to get rid of a take over everything plant. I would love to know the answers to the 'assigned seating mineral' question and also be able to offer some tips to help you in your endeavor to get rid of it, but all I can do is wish you success. The third may be Haworthia fasciata. It is not the similar looking H. attenuata because this plant has smooth inner leaf faces. The last one is a Lithops. Do not water until the outer leaves have been resorbed. Research cultivation, they can be difficult. I agree with the other identifications. Happy growing! Brad

Wpdoit, why not? The Advantium is impressive, and you're the first person who has this level of mastery of it in the forum for years. Great contribution to the discussion. I'd like to clarify about convection, however. As I understand it, the Advantium has only convection heat in oven mode. There is a heating element for the air which is circulated by a fan. It is true convection, but not true ovening. OTOH, while there are some regular ovens, especially European ones, which also have only convection, American-style ovens (including the Euro makers popular here), have convection as a supplement to regular baking and broiling. That is, there is bottom heat plus convection, or top heat plus convection, and some have convection only settings. Basic and mid-range ovens aren't what they used to be. They're made mostly for price and energy ratings, and can be very uneven. Using convection not only speeds up the cooking (though nothing like in a speed oven), it also evens out the heat in the oven by pushing the air around. So, for your cookies, you have heat from the bottom, the fan to blow it around and make the whole oven the same temperature, and, if you're lucky, the true convection heating element that makes sure that the circulating air doesn't dip in temperature, like it can without it. This is what allows you to put in three or more sheets of cookies at one time. The circulating air distributes the heat around, and you don't have a hot spot on the lowest tray, and a large effect of heat reflecting off the bottom of the tray above. Some may be more or less done when you take them out, but they'll all be within the golden range that's just right. Similarly, on convection broil, with the air moving around, you can do long skewers or a whole tray of chops and have them all be the same serving temperature, even though broilers are notorious for heating most right in the middle. Now that you're pretty confident with the speed oven, give your conventional oven a try!

I believe that, after death, we are reunited with all our family,friends and loved ones who have gone before. And we are allowed to see the face of God (including Jesus, if you are of the Christian faith. Sorry if I offended anyone.) As far as Hell, I don't believe it exists. The bible if full of stories how God created us, hears our prayers, and is merciful. Well, I love my kids very much. No matter how much they disobey, I still love them and could not bear to send them to eternal pain and suffering. Hence, I think Hell is an invention of Man.

Thanks guys!

They gave me a scrip for Hydrocodone, which I haven't needed yet. No real pain yet...just some surface-soreness starting.

The biggest "pain" is stubbing my left-leg toes on furniture!!
Since the leg is all wrapped-up, my walking motion kind of forces it to the left a little, and "bump"! Ouch!

Waaaaahhh...yeah I know, another "Whiney GUY thing"...;-)

Ugh, poor guy! See if they'll give you a walking boot. It's a foam 'boot' that you strap on with Velcro. Will save your toes and keeps the bandages clean when you move around.

When I was going in for lymphatic drainage massage they'd wrap up my legs like that. MAJOR pita. Your leg will be smaller than the other one when they remove the dressings bit will be good as new before long. If you havent need the pain killers yet, you probably won't need them at all.

Hope you don't experience any more pain than you have now and that you heal so fast that the doctor is astounded! Take advantage and relax and enjoy football this weekend.

I'm a big believer it following the doctor's instructions to the letter. So, do what the doctor says, take it easy, and get well soon!

Heal well, Faron - and take advantage of the 'invalid phase'! Not that many opportunities to have family wait on one, so "milk it while the milking's good"! ;-). Seriously - hope your recovery is fast and painless and that the other leg goes well, too.

Thanks again to all my "Nurses" out there in GW-land!!

Stairs are kind of a "pain". Leg is wrapped pretty stiff to near the groin, so it's one step with the same leg all the time!
My right leg may be getting more muscular now...?!?!?!

Also don't wait 'till the pain gets unbearable to take a some meds.
Nothing like waiting for those little suckers to kick-in..

When I had my eyes done, they gave me the hydrocodone, but I only took it on the first day, after that, I could get by just on plain old tylenol. Hoping you don't need the big time drugs!

And I wouldn't mind seeing the 'damage'. I once knicked a vein in my left arm and my whole arm turned black...kinda gross, but cool looking at the same time. As long as there is no blood, I'm fine.

I had a similar surgery several years ago. Good luck with your recovery! You will be amazed how much better you feel. My vein ached and ached so after it was over I was thrilled!

Now get on the couch, put it up and relax!

Feel real good! NO need for the "high-octane" Hydrocodone.
Looking VERY forward to getting this leg-fluff/wrap off tomorrow am though!!!

Goin' back to work @ noon Monday. S'pose I'll be wearing a compression-sock?!
