I think heaven will be something unimaginable...really... I think we may have senses that we don't have now (that we obviously can't even imagine). I don't think we will even crave our loves ones or need them with us. I think it will more be a soul feeling of wholeness and completeness where there are no desires or needs to have to be met.

Heaven will be fabulous, and Hell very miserable. Make sure you don't go!

Heaven: surrounded by my relatives and friends that have gone before me, in the best age / health of their lives.

Hell: surrounded by inlaws, enemies, insurance salesmen.

To pacify everyone would the OP allow an amendment to the question? How about asking what the afterlife, if any, will look like? :)

Heaven is when my kitchen is clean. Hell is what it looks like when my husband's done some cooking.

I think that heaven and hell are what we carry in our hearts. We all know people who have everything great in life, yet still manage to be negative, and people with problems galore who live life to the best extent possible. You make your own heaven and hell.

I think hell is here on earth...

Heaven and hell is right now while we live. Life is like a card game. We are dealt good hands and bad hands as the game goes on. We can influence the outcome somewhat by how we choose to play them. Some play safe and some take risks. Some play smart and some play stupid. Some is pure chance. Destiny if you will.

BTW I see this post as not being religious. There are religions that don't have heaven and hell. It's just another part of some religions' dogma. More many it is just imagine if.....I take the post in that context. Heaven and hell and afterlife is a concept that even the non religious can ponder. It is not religion just because some religions try to take ownership of the "concept".

I would like to see what others imagine heaven and hell to be. Interesting post if the over serious board queens just SOB.

I've always thought Heaven and Hell are what we experience while we are alive. I believe afterlife is only comprised of good.

I guess that I ride rather lightly to the idea that a God (whether male-like, female-like ... either ... or both) who is said to have loved me in life can have the heart (if such S/He has) to consign me to a situation where I had to deal with unalleviated torment, forever.

No matter how heinous a deed that I might have done, I don't see my Dad having done that ... and would one consider him better than God?

Though, when I was young, Dad did make a few noises along the line of my possibly being disowned should I choose to marry Catholic (and by that he meant of the Roman variety).

Kayjones, lighten up. I never asked what religion people are nor am giving an opinion on any religion, just what they picture as heaven and hell. Wildchild hit it on the head, it is actually NOT a religious question after thinking about it. I am not religious by any stretch of the imagination, but I believe in heaven and hell. I don't believe in leprechauns, but I wouldn't be offended by a post about what you think they look like.

Great thoughts, and it is good to know that people at the KT still enjoy topics deeper than food and knitting! Back when it started and Spike was the original owner there were much more varied and interesting topics. I was one of the original members (Lydia1959, I still have the silver coffee and spoon container you gave me for Christmas about 13 years ago and think of you daily!) and I would love if people still posted these kinds of subjects. Don't be afraid to post and probe life's questions, I think that is what we need more of. Of course we are here to discuss the other things in life, and I enjoy the trivia questions and recipes too, but if you don't like a topic, don't answer.

I picture a place where there is a lot of color and a warmth. I hope that my past family members are there and all the things that are dear to me are readily available. It's nothing that I can think to compare it to. As for Hell, I think it's an ultimate suffering... also indescribable.

I appreciate this type of question being asked and that we all have enough respect for one another to share our differing opinions peacefully.

I think that heaven and hell exist on earth, but I'd like to think of heaven as being a place where all the people and pets you loved in life are reunited with you.

Mom24, that was exactly the reason for this post, to get deeper conversations than you are all used to and learn from others.

Lily, I share the same sentiments, I will be reunited with all the people and pets who passed before me and have an afterlife of no pain or suffering, just being together with everyone.

You might be interested in Dr. Michael Newton's books, Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls. Newton is a psychiatrist who regressed a large number of people under hypnosis, asking them not about their past lives but about their life between incarnations.

Their accounts are very detailed, and quite similar. The books are fascinating. I recommend reading Journey first.

Susan, thank you for listing those I noted them and will read them. I read the very light and airy Heaven is for Real, tho a very easy read I think it was one of those life-changing books, it could be that I read it at a time I needed to do so.

I believe that, after death, we are reunited with all our family,friends and loved ones who have gone before. And we are allowed to see the face of God (including Jesus, if you are of the Christian faith. Sorry if I offended anyone.) As far as Hell, I don't believe it exists. The bible if full of stories how God created us, hears our prayers, and is merciful. Well, I love my kids very much. No matter how much they disobey, I still love them and could not bear to send them to eternal pain and suffering. Hence, I think Hell is an invention of Man.

I realize I just lurk here and, as an outsider, don't want to roil the waters. But if Hell is an invention of man, isn't it at all possible that Heaven is also? As humans we have no other way of expressing things other than in human terms - hence the pets, loved ones, favorite garden flowers populating our afterlives.

After doubting and coming to terms with every scrap of dogma I was ever exposed to... I'm satisfied that Heaven - for those who believe - is an eternity in the face of God. Hell would be eternal separation.

I wonder whether heaven and hell may be the same "place" (whatever that dimension of life may be) ...

... with God's actions being applauded by some, saying, "Hooray!" ...

... and the others saying, "Drat!".
