Homemade Baked Beans recipe, please.

I tried a recipe from allrecipes.com "Made from Scratch Baked Beans" and they were a flop. The comments from those sampling: 'too spicy' (kids), 'too sweet' (all), 'beans not completely cooked' (hubby), 'sauce too thick' (all).

Now I am in search of a baked bean recipe that starts with dried beans and yields great results. Any bean-masters out there that would be willing to share their secret-family recipe?

In the past I have always done the 'half-homemade' beans: start out with a big can of Bush's or something similar, fry up a little bacon to add, along with diced onion and green pepper. Simmer, bake or crockpot them and you are good to go.

Is it worth the time/effort to start from dried beans? I think it would be with the right recipe. Please share!

Sandy
