Just getting started - Craftmaid? Omega?

I'm just starting to get really serious with a gut renovation of my kitchen and I met with the first KD yesterday. I've already got tons of notes saved from reading here for months, so I know I'm going to get great advice.

I've got a couple of questions about the cab lines the KD carries.

He carries Omega as his mid-priced line. I see a lot of references on here to Dynasty/Omega, but when I follow his link to the company's website I get to www.omegacabinetry.com, which is a division of MasterBrand. Is this the same company as Dynasty/Omega?

Most of the discussions here seem pretty positive about Omega (assuming they're the same thing as Dynasty/Omega), but there seems to have been a turn for the worse in the last couple of years, to the point where I'd want to stay away from them. Does this seem like an accurate assessment?

He also carries Craftmaid as his custom line and that's very much in consideration for us. I've searched but see almost nothing here about this company. Does anyone have any opinions? Note, I do mean Craftmaid, not Kraftmaid.

I came close last year to buying painted white (maple) Dynasty cabinets but held off due to recurrent web comments about premature paint cracks/peel on their doors. I still like Dynasty cabinets though. I continue to read positive reports on Medallion cabinet finish, including paint grade. Finish is as important to me as construction. I dislike any cabinet finish that appears "plastic", found surprisingly on some of the better manufacturers' cabinets. Good luck.

Marcia - I saw CM at a store in West Reading and it looked very nice but don't know enough other than what I saw. If you are in the area - it was at the Baldwin Brass store in WR.

Live_wire_oak who is a long time forum member here is carrying Dynasty/Omega as the top line for the new showroom if you wanted some inside information. I've also recently seen a pretty stunning kitchen in Dynasty/Omega in a local home tour. It's probably like any other line in that you can get a pretty good set of cabinets if you have the right expecations and the right KD to order everything correctly. BTW, Dynasty is the semi-custom line, and Omega is the fully custom line. You can mix and match between the two to save money if you only need a few truly custom cabinets.

I brought a KD paid her $300.00, she assured me a 3D plan. Her fees would have been around $5 -10 thousand. When she presented the plan, it was MY plan!! She took everything I said and made a plan. I was so frustrated as i had communicated to her I wanted her ideas and input. Long story short, I fired her and did my own plan. I was my own KD. I think everyone is capable of doing this. You know what you need, want, and your style. With the money i saved, i purchased high end appliances and custom cabinets. Please think realistically, do you really need a KD. If you bring custom kitchen designers, they draw up the plans and don't charge for them. I spoke with 4 different custom caboinet makers and eventually decided on one. He was my KD. he listen to my needs and planned the cabinets accordingly. Just a thought.

I recently (summer 2013) ordered and received Dynasty cabinets, and was terribly disappointed in the quality of construction. While the doors look very nice, the cabinets themselves were very poor quality- the frames on multiple cabinets were so out of square they could not be installed properly, we had two different highly experienced installers on site, neither could believe the sloppy workmanship and shoddy construction, and did not feel the cabinets were worth the money paid. The sides and bottoms do not fit well, gaps are visible throughout, and flimsy 3/8 plywood was used, even on the back which supports the weight of the cabinet. The corner blocking was falling out of several units, and misaligned in others. We received 3 replacements for one cabinet, which in the end was still damaged but we decided to just live with it due to the extensive delays. And we now just discovered one of the face frames is split where the screw fastens the corner(we had thought it was a scratch, and were planning on living with it rather than experience more delays). There is very little holding these cabinet frames together, I do not expect them to last. They are definitely overpriced and not worth the $22,000 paid. Do not be misled by the company website claim of master craftsmanship- perhaps in earlier times the craftsmanship was there, but it is clearly not present now.

Horrible experience with Omega cabinets. I'm currently in the process of remodeling my kitchen and bar. We originally ordered my cabinets in october 2021 and were told that there was a 4 months lead time and we had to order right away because Omega was going to raise prices within a week. We were comfortable with ordering Omega as they were the top brand in semi custom cabinets and came highly recommended. So we didn't shop around and just decided to go with the "best". Although we were happy with our Diamond brand cabinets for our bathrooms. We received our cabinets in February as promised and due to things running long, they sat in my garage until we were ready to install. We opened up the cabinets in March and to our surprise 50% of the cabinets had major defects that I could not accept the product. We immediately ordered replacements and were told that we would have them in 4 weeks. Well, it's May 27 2022 today and I recieved my replacements 8 weeks later. I cannot believe the quality of the product from Omega. The new cabinets still have dings, missing paint, chips along the shelves and doors, scratches and smears all along the top. I'm beyond frustrated with the experience of my cabinets and this is what I paid nearly $40k for! In addition to putting my entire remodeling project on hold for months and costing me extra stress and money from not having a kitchen and having to order out every meal, paying for storage of my entire 1st floor just because it's waiting for cabinets. This is probably one of the worst products that I've received in my remodeling. DO NOT BUY FROM OMEGA.

I popped in to tell you that I have Brookhaven and am very happy with them We came down to Brookhaven of Medallion and decided we really wanted the frameless (Brookhaven has both, Medallion has only framed) and we were more comfortable with the people at that dealer. We looked at Dynnasty and Omega but never got a quote from that ddealer -- never even returned out calls, actually. We didn't get very far with exploring that option. Fomr what I remember of the displays, they were nice, but I think Medallion and Brookhaven have the nicest finishing among the semi-custom lines. Now, that said, if you think you are happy with your kitchen, I would not go looking at new cabinets and ripping out the current one. I knew I hated mine and the process still stunk. I wouldn't go through it unless I knew it had a HUGE payoff. Make sure that some simple updating won't do just as much for your need to make new before you take a bigger leap. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

We purchased Dynasty cabinets for our remodel to start in a week or two. I liked the quality and how thick the doors are, etc. Our current cabs are Wellborn and more thick than others, so I did not want to downgrade. I have not been able to find any negative reviews on the internet about the kitchen store we are using, so I'm happy with that. I did have some conversations with several other kitchen stores and found these cabinets to be better than most, especially for the price. I did see some negative reviews on this forum, but there will always be some anywhere you look for anything. I have faith in my KD and store, so I'm hoping it will be a non-issue.

I hope I won't have to report back about these comments!

I failed to mention we are getting stained cabinets, not painted.

We were deciding between Medallion and Dynasty at this kitchen store. I really liked the Medallion cabinets and wanted to find a color that I loved, but I couldn't quite find it. But anyways, it ended up that with the height of the cabinets that we needed, it was going to be more expensive than the Dynasty brand. And I fell in love with a color of the Dynasty brand right away. So that sold me.

Craftmaid (with a "C") is higher end than Omega, much higher than Dynasty. I compete against it on occasion but don't carry it, good reputation.

Our KD (who we trusted and were very happy with) thought Craftmaid (with a "C") were outstanding cabinets. We came close to getting them, but went with another line for style/color reasons.

We have a Dynasty/Omega vanity in our master bath. We're happy with the quality as well, but I got the impression that Craftmaid was much higher end.

Just getting started - Craftmaid? Omega?
