dynasty is made by the same company that makes omega, but construction techniques are significantly different. Dynasty is nice, don't get me wrong, but if your dh wants heafty boxes...Omega (they are a custom line) boxes are built like fort knox. my contractor is installing them now in the kitchen and is complaining good naturedly about the weight of the plywood boxes because they're so thick :) they are really built very very well. you wouldn't be sorry to use them, plus everything is custom, so you can do whatever you want :) all boxes are finished in the same finish as the outside as well.

very high quality (above the others you mention) for Omega. I would compare dynasty with medallion for quality. (The omega/dynasty has specs on their website if dh wants to look at them).

Thank you all for the replies. Frameless is not important and we are not looking at inset. I am boring/basic raised panel square door which is truly what I like, no glaze, no paint. I know that door styles and overlays make a difference but we have tried to stay within similar styles for each company. Cost is a concern as we have a small budget, but I would still pay more for good quality.

Another question-- Medallion makes 3 lines so when one compares Medallion with Dynasty/Omega is it the Gold or Platinum line or does it not matter? Our Medallion quote was several thousand more than Dynasty for the Gold line. If we tack on a wood species upcharge it was even more.

I popped in to tell you that I have Brookhaven and am very happy with them We came down to Brookhaven of Medallion and decided we really wanted the frameless (Brookhaven has both, Medallion has only framed) and we were more comfortable with the people at that dealer. We looked at Dynnasty and Omega but never got a quote from that ddealer -- never even returned out calls, actually. We didn't get very far with exploring that option. Fomr what I remember of the displays, they were nice, but I think Medallion and Brookhaven have the nicest finishing among the semi-custom lines.

Now, that said, if you think you are happy with your kitchen, I would not go looking at new cabinets and ripping out the current one. I knew I hated mine and the process still stunk. I wouldn't go through it unless I knew it had a HUGE payoff. Make sure that some simple updating won't do just as much for your need to make new before you take a bigger leap. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Don't mean to be dense but what does it mean to have the nicest finish/finishing? Is it a visual look, a feel or the stain or ??

Just a newbie and not quite sure about all the details.

I'll chime in here on finish as we have just had Brookhaven installed in the last month and looked closely at this and it's what won us over.

We did maple with a light stain, no glaze, no paint and looked at a gazillion different cabinet lines comparing how each company did this finish. Brookhaven was way ahead - it just was very even, a nice shade (some stained maple looked weird muddy and uneven, smooth (to the touch) finish, no goops around seams. We have shaker style wood framed with plywood veneer centers and the wood and plywood matches extremely well and it's all a very even finish. Some of this may not be relevant to you if you are looking at a different door style.
