Serving ice cream

At a funeral reception. A man in our church has died. He was brain injured as a child and worked in a sheltered workshop and lived in a group home. And a lot of the atendees will also be from the sheltered workshop and the various group homes where he lived over the past 25 years.

His sister has asked for icecream and cookies with all the trimmings...especially Reeces Peanut Butter Cups!

So we will serve ice cream and toppings......and I really want to serve it on those sandwich trays.....my co workers think that will be a mess. But I can't see people juggling a plate and a bowl and a glass or cup...

Someone suggested that people would take their bowl to the table and lay their cookie on the table and return for their drink. I think laying a cookie on the placemat is a bit tacky....and I always believe you need an underplate....but juggling a bowl and an underplate as well as a glass or cup is tricky...

Anyone see an easy way to serve this ice cream sundae thing?

Can you park the cookie in the side of the bowl next to the ice cream? Or put the scoop of ice cream on top of a cookie in a bowl?

It did occur to me to make some loaf sort of cakes and slice and put a piece of cake on a plate and ice cream on top of that....but....
I'm going to go get one of those plates and bring it home and fix myself some icecream......and see what kind of a mess it makes.

That looks like something I would like to make, and I have a bunch of dates that I wanted to use up. I was going to make date shakes with them, but this would be better since it uses coconut milk, which I also have on hand. When did you add the cornstarch? Did you add it to the sugars before heating, or did you add it when you added the butter? I think I would probably want to add it to the white sugar, but I do not know how long you are supposed to cook it. I have two different type of garam masala, and so I'll have to choose which one to use. Thanks for sharing! Lars

You could put the cookies on the serving table into cupcake liners..they could then be put on the tray or onto the top/side of the ice cream bowl without getting soggy. Or you could have several small trays of cookies on the eating tables and eliminate one thing for them to carry.

Now that's a good idea! Have the tables set with plates, spoons and napkins and a tray of cookies on each table....they get their ice cream in a bowl, add their toppings, grab tea coffee of fruit juice and get their cookie and spoon at their table!!

you could serve ice cream sandwiches no spoon no bowl.Make your own with different kinds of cookies that have the trimmings already in them!

Or make an assortment of cookie cups--just press cookie dough over custard cups or muffin tins or whatever and bake--and then people could carry their ice cream IN their cookies.

(Now I want to make cookie cups, paint the bottoms with chocolate fudge, sprinkle with nuts and fill them with home made ice cream. So much for starting the diet today!)

Cookie cups and sandwiches too much work for 75 people.....but great idea for about 30!
