have you ever made fruit-infused vodka?

My neighbor was telling me about a pineapple-infused vodka she made once, and I'd like to try it. I'd give some bottles of it to a few friends for Christmas. I just am not sure what to actually put it in -- if you have done this, where did you get the bottles? I'm thinking a quart size or smaller. Any ideas?

I made strawberry vodka this year for the first time, it came out great and I will do more next year. I don't have it in a decorative bottle, but I see neat looking vessels at TJX, Target, etc., and after it's "cured" you could pour it in and tie with ribbon for a nice gift.

I believe the directions came from the GW Harvest forum.

I made it once. Actually, I used a recipe for herbal lemon honey jam and infused it with rose petals. The rose petals I used weren't very smelly, so it was prettier than it was "rose" tasting. I would definately go for it if I had the right kind of roses! Otherwise, it's not going to give you much of a distinctive tasting jelly

Alcohol is the best preservative even better than vinegar so to answer your questions. If i place hot peppers in vodka, will they be preserved (safe to eat later)? YES I want to make a spicy hot vodka to put in bloody mary mixes. I would also want to eat the pepper. would they need to be boiled first? NO. DEFINITELY DO NOT BOIL OR HEAT THE PEPPERS IT WILL ONLY SOFTEN THEM. should the vodka be refrigerated as it infuses? NOT REALLY. IT WILL ONLY SLOW THINGS DOWN. how long would this remain consumable (would it ever spoil)? THE PEPPER WILL SOFTEN BUT BE SAFE TO EAT. SHOULD BE GOOD FOR OVER 10 YEARS. GREEN LASTS LONGER THAN RED PEPPERS. I realize the PH of vodka is not low, but would the alcohol content prevent harmful growth? YES. NO HARMFUL GROWTH POSSIBLE IN ALCOHOL. I AM NOT SURE ON PH OF VODKA BUT IT IS NOT A PROBLEM FOR THIS USE. ALCOHOL KILLS THE GERMS SO THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS. Alternatively, If the answer is "no" to peppers, could I infuse vodka with lemons? THE JUICE OR THE RIND ? Alcohol is the best preservative but it is much more expensive than vinegar. Also some people can not drink alcohol especially many people on medications. You can safely drop hot peppers into alcohol. If larger thick like a Jalapeno you might want to slice them open so the alcohol gets to the inside quickly and fully. Try to keep the peppers in the dark. Maybe inside a kitchen cabinet. strong light will affect the color of the peppers. You can take a quart canning jar. fill it will Jalapenos sliced in half or in rings and then fill with vodka. and put cap on it and all done. No need to hot water bath it. it will only soften it. Alcohol is a great preservative. But dont get drunk eating hot peppers. haha. you do need to keep the peppers below the level of the alcohol. no good if floating above the alcohol of course.

-- "Peel and stick" vinyl tiles on the kitchen floor. Any moisture in the cracks has led to unpeeling and unsticking, particularly in front of the sink and fridge. -- Failing to check what primer the painters used when they painted our house trim. We bought the colored paint ourselves, but because of the cheap quick-dry primer most of it started peeling within a year. -- Planting violets, daisies and mint underneath the rose bushes, all of which ended up spreading far and wide, seemingly impossible to eradicate. Not a huge problem, but annoying. -- The neighbor's gardening boo-boo was worse than mine. She planted morning glory along our mutual fence. Talk about invasive! It tried to take over both our yards and two years later she's still trying to get rid of it.

Until the UK joined what was then the EEC and had greater exposure to/from the rest of Europe, it had in the minds of many the WORST food in Europe. Unless bland, greasy, overcooked food is your thing. Standard advice back in the 70s and 80s for finding restaurants in London was to go to Soho and look for a Chinese or Indian place or other foreign food and avoid local restaurants at all costs. I give the English credit for creating trifle (which isn't all that different from strawberry shortcake and many pastry concoctions common on the Continent) but not for execution. Same for the other areas of Britain. Food there has improved from the few decades of foreign influence but the local traditions are still hideous. Unless local favorites like jellied eel, steak and kidney (yes real kidneys) pie, haggis or baked beans on toast, among others, are your idea of good food. Looking for recipes for creamy limoncello to give, so I can't help you with a recipe. But, what did inspire me to even give this a go was my local Italian food grocer who carried French Lemonade Soda. The 25.4 fl oz. bottles are perfect for this sort of gift. Lorina is the manufacturer and the bottle says product of France. Just thought I would throw the name of a bottle out there for you in case you could get your hands on some. I bought all that I found. Can't wait to find a recipe now:0).

i made cranberry infused vodka one year and was disappointed...it didn't take on too much of the cranberry flavor, though the vodka did turn a pretty blush color!

I found a place that sells different kinds of bottles online at a good price, so I ordered a box of 12. They had flask-shaped bottles, which I thought was kind of cute.

I had pineapple infused vodka at a restaurant once and it was amazing, so I have high hopes!

I think the drink I had at the bar was just the pineapple vodka! It was in a small martini glass. It didn't taste like "just vodka" at all. I suppose you could mix with some tonic or seltzer?

The strawberry vodka we made (with the fine Popov brand of vodka) is a beautiful, clear red and has a strong strawberry flavor. We mixed it with tonic water (we're V&T fans anyway) and a generous splash of lime, very tasty. We also put a splash into glasses of both pinot grigio and cheap champagne and it was also mighty tasty. We're not martini drinkers, but a friend who is had me make her half strawberry vodka and half regular vodka (some Stoli we had kicking around), iced it down well and added fresh lime and that was also good.

We kept the mashed strawberry mixture in there a good month, and shook it up every couple of days, then strained it out and let the vodka cure. Also used the leftover mashed berries with vodka in a frozen vodka daiquiri, and that was STRONG, but good. We have a little left and it's just in the plastic Popov Vodka bottle but next year we have plans to make more and use it as gifts, so we will also be on the hunt for good looking bottles.

I was also thinking about making pineapple rum, maybe kinda sorta Captain Morgan-esque?

After I posted about the bottles I found, I googled Lorina Lemonade Soda. Came up something like Pop Soda Shop, or something similar.

Don't know how to post a link, so just a head's up to google Lorina if you want to look at other bottling options for gifting homemade spirits. I ordered a case, as I really liked the Lemonade Soda as well. Very tasty, not sickeningly sweet either!

I just need some good recipes!

I hadnt made it but have had the pleasure of meeting up with blackberry vodka and tonics at a block party.. It is a lot stronger than it tastes by the way. Beautiful deep deep color and the taste... exquisite, good thing we all walked there.
I do know that the fruit has to be macerated in the vodka- it was frozen for a time as well.
