Well, you're doing better than me Susan. I often reopen generic/cryptic titled posts that hold no interest to me more than twice just because I no longer seem to have my short-term memory cells intact. LOL

I open them multiple times as well and get annoyed each time! Please please please put the content in the subject line!

Whew! Thank heavens you posted that, Jody! My mother had dementia so I've seen first-hand what it's like and I really get bothered when I open posts I've already opened. Or do something really dumb like post the wrong day on the "What's for dinner" thread.

It does not bother me at all~~~this is just a for fun site. We do not need a book of Etiquette to use, just to post a simple question or to make an observation in life~~is it really so much that you open something you are not interested in, but maybe means something to the OP?

I'm all for posting the subject in the heading. Why not give the KT members a heads up as to what the thread is about. You can still pose a question or make an observation. You just don't have to make the topic vague or teasing.

I also find myself re-opening a post because I don't remember if I've read it or not.

I completely agree, Susan!!! It drives me crazy. And, as far as I'm concerned, it's not about following rules of etiquette. It's just darned annoying.

It's extremely bothersome in the Computer Help forum and we quite often remind posters to please don't do that. I am terrible about remembering what one of those are about, we could be spending our time helping someone instead of trying to decipher a post. The more information given the faster and easier it will be to resolve.
It doesn't bother me as much here, but I would certainly prefer title info rather than cryptic.

More often than not, I just ignore the 'generic subject line' posts, but am on break with some time right now so opened this one. I imagine that there are others who just scroll on by them rather than opening them numerous times, not remembering they weren't something of real interest to them. Life is too short.

Now posts with subject lines that really 'say or ask something' of real interest of interest to me, I will usually follow, reading the new posts as they are added until they drop off.

People are going to post how they care to post. Even on a forum such as Computer Help, there is the occasional subject line such as "Help!

Those things don't bother me at all. They are like junk mail - open them, look at them, then X out and go to something else.

Yes, it does bother me, for the same reasons that others have mentioned. It is like if you open up your newspaper and there are no headlines, just articles.

The only one that doesn't bother me is the Site of the Day. :>) because one click and you know you will be going there or not.

I "also" almost strolled on by this teaser post. And, I too often open them several times before I realize I had already been 'tricked' into opening it. There are posters who start those kinds of threads and most often I just do not open them. Thanks for bringing up the subject. BTW, recently I HAVE tried "testing" myself....to see if I could remember what the post was about. Maybe I am improving!

No bother to me, but like Ravencajan stated it is very important when a person has asked for help, receives it, and then asks another question --same subject etc. In response the person needs to know what the original question is and how some people have answered. those postings need to be tied together.

Amyfiddler, I was just thinking the very same thing. I check the KT every day, but open only those threads I think I can learn something from, or contribute something to. Or laugh. (That is, if someone posts a joke or a funny video, etc.)

I usually don't open ones that don't have the subject in the "SUBJECT" box. On the occasions when I do, it's only a click out, but it is kind of tricky.

It only bothers me in one of those times when the thread, or something in the thread, was interesting. Then later when I come back to look for that interesting tidbit, I will scroll through page after page, only to never find that interesting tidbit ever again!

Forgot to add that in the past I was guilty a time or two. :)

I like forums that allow you to read part of the post without opening it. You hover over the subject line, and part of the posts shows.

That way I can tell if I have read it or not.

... but most of the time I prefer to have at least a SUBSTANTIAL HINT as to the topic to be discussed (and I am a bit thick in the head) shown in the subject line.

I've been known to do it myself, but usually there's a reason. I usually prefer to offer some specifics in the subject line.

I think some people use the teaser technique because they feel they might not get a lot of responses to their post otherwise and feel a teaser bumps up the odds.

This practice also makes the OP feel that they're really somebody, or really with it, or maybe they're lulled into thinking that they're really popular by the number of responses they get on their posting.

Also NOT A FAN of people (you know who you are, lol) that post to an entry they have already posted to, by heading it Whooo likessssss toooooo. In case they don't realize it, all they have to do is put in an extra space!!! But they probably know how to do it properly, but figure it makes their post stand out. Pathetic IMHO.

It's annoying to open a post that is vague in the title only to realize that you've not only opened it before but that it also still doesn't interest you and that you wasted more time on it, when time is short.

Bfenton, we're talking about subject lines that tease the reader by not revealing what the subject is about. Just like the title of this thread: Is anyone else NOT a fan of. Not a fan of what? The reader has to open the thread to find out. Some of us wish KT posters would make a point of revealing the subject they're posting about.

People do this all the time on forums everywhere. For instance, on a travel forum I frequent, posters often use the subject title, "Question" or the name of the city they are visiting (which is also the name of the forum. Or something cryptic like "What should I do?" Drives me nuts.
Totally agree with Alisande. I've opened and reopened threads in which I had no interest because I couldn't remember what they were about, due to the subject not giving any hints. Since as soon as another poster adds a reply the post comes up in the "unread" colour it's hard to keep track of whether you've looked at it before unless you remember the title.

Not a big deal, although I have the habit of forgetting that I already read it, then going back another time or two before I remember the contents. So, it's a little annoying but as another poster said there are far more things to be annoyed at than that, and, speaking for myself, maybe it's an old lady annoyance problem..
