Fruit Butter Recipe Especially Strawberry
Comments (13)I grow strawberries, so I was looking for something to do with them besides freezing. We have to work with the limitations of the fruit. There is no way around that. Unfortunately strawberries, due to their fragile nature and high ratio of juice to solids, are primarily a fresh eating or freezer fruit. They just don't tolerate being exposed to heat. Even strawberry jams can have problems due to the heat exposure. They can be dehydrated but even then it is at a low temp. Would a double boiler help? Some but that then doubles the energy expenditure and time used so it becomes a question of is it really worth it? For many the answer would be no. Dave...See MoreButter vs Irish butter
Comments (57)Yep. You should be able to buy it if you have any kind of high end market, food craft shop, or similar. My very favorite is from Vermont Creamery (nee Vermont Butter an d Cheese Co.). They make a log, which is regular cultured butter, and a ball wrapped in blue plaid waxed paper sold in a little wood slat basket which has sea salt, and is saltier. The latter is excellent for bread and butter or toast, but a waste and too salty for anything where the butter isn't the point. The regular log is good for any kind of table use. I use regular sweet cream butter for cooking and baking. Organic Valley makes cultured butter with wider distribution. I can usually find it, whereas the Vermont is hit and miss. Organic Valley also make pasture butter. I'm sure there are plenty of other makers as well. Other than for the experience, I can't imagine it being worthwhile culturing your own butter if you can buy it easily. :)...See MoreStrawberry Peanut Butter M&M's??
Comments (9)I heard about them on the radio and the guy said they were to die for! I haven't seen them, but I'd try. Guess they'd taste like a PB&J sandwich? My favorite were the Crunchy ones, but of course, they don't make them anymore! Although, maybe that's a good thing! lol Teresa-who still looks for that blue wrapper just in case!...See MoreA butter boat for better butter
Comments (29)Mtn, I used to make a blend of butter and canola oil, but I was the only one using it so I kind of got out of the habit. Now that DH is on another health kick, maybe I will pick it up again. But it definitely needs to be kept in the refrigerator. gigi and schoolhouse, you live in a beautiful state! (We had lunch in Wooster after visiting Lehman's, it was a corner restaurant, I think the owner was Italian, near downtown. Yum.)...See Morelpinkmountain
