Butter Bell?
Comments (26)Don't yuck my yum. Another person can use agave syrup to their hearts content but I don't care for the stuff. I even know some people who don't like butter, like my own mother, although I find that strangely suspect, LOL. So, I'll stick with my butter, my olive oil, my cane sugar (refined or otherwise) and hope that my grass fed beef and organic vegetables will balance it all out. islay, I've used those spreadable butters and find them acceptable, although now scientists are finding that butter isn't actually as unhealthy as once thought. There are various kinds here, some have canola oil (which I avoid due to the GMOs but anyone else that wants to eat it is OK by me) and some have olive oil. I can't see that it negatively impacts flavor, but the texture is just a tiny bit different. Well of course it's different, it's supposed to be soft, LOL. It's a lot better than that trans-fat laden "margarine", we used to call it "oleo". Of course, I just like butter. (grin) Annie...See Morebutter, cameras and lobster
Comments (19)Thanks for the tips (both here and email) about camera repair. To make a long story short, Sony's site had advice that was useless, so I followed some internet advice and now my camera is officially dead. I'll keep your camera recommendations in mind as I research. The first time I had a lobster roll I questioned why the hot dog bun, but it just works. Also tradition, I believe, is that the buns be top split not side split. It took several tries before I could find those. Before I actually found them I went on KA's site to look for hot dog bun recipes, but found that I needed a special pan to make these. (I don't have a suitably sized substitute.) I worked in the Boston area for a while and was shocked the first time I saw lobster roll on the menu at McD's. I agree they have a bit much mayo, but not bad as I recall. Tricia - Interesting about the personal use license. I've been wondering if there's any way to catch your own lobster without getting either shot or arrested. Now all I need is a few pots. Oh, and a boat....See MoreButter vs Butter Flavored Spay in Phyllo Dough
Comments (5)I've used olive oil spray for spanakopita made in a pan. It didn't seem to make a big difference flavor wise. My grandmother and mother always brushed olive oil in between phyllo sheets when making a savory pita like spankopita or tiropita (Feta cheese pita). However, they also always used butter for the top sheet; they said it browned better. I'd hesitate to use the butter spray just because its flavor seems pretty artificial. If you used it for all the layers, I think it'd be quite noticeable. One thing that also helps keep the phyllo leaves separate and crisp is to sprinkle a dusting of very finely ground bread crumbs in between the sheets in addition to the butter/oil brushing. I do this when making pan pitas. Of course, it's probably only appropriate with savory pitas. That trick might work with the triangles, though....See MoreCook Street Butter Boat
