best hvac option - repair compressor, replace ac, or furnace too?
Comments (4)realitybend, I know we've just peppered you with a lot of questions, and I'm guessing you don't know how to answer some of them: On your furnace, if you take the front cover off, you will see a silver sticker that lists the model number, serial number, BTU input, etc. --- Take a picture of that with your phone and post it here. Same thing on the AC unit outside: is a silver tag that lists similar information. We can tell you the age of the unit and what you have from that. That's a good place to start - along with information about your location (general, don't need specific) and the information about your house (age, general amount of insulation)....See MoreShelving, Cabinets, and Built In Refrigerator Advice
Comments (9)Given that your kitchen isn't that big, your savings by re-using the boxes will not be much, if any, in proportion to the amount of work you'll need to MacGyver everything. Your results will be much better if you tear out and start fresh. I realize that is not the budget you have, but I really think you won't save money by keeping what you have, because you may actually spend more in all your efforts to fit a square peg to a round hole. You can gain counterspace by replacing the separate cooktop and oven with a range (I noticed in your OP you are using the wrong words; a "range" is an appliance that is cooktop and oven all-in-one, not separate). A range is also less expensive than a separate cooktop and wall oven. And while I usually do not recommend an OTR MW, in your kitchen an OTR MW would be another means to save space. A "counter-depth" fridge would also add a feeling of space to the kitchen. They are 24" deep so that they don't protrude from the cabinetry (which is likely the 24" standard depth, not the 26" you mentioned). The regular-depth fridge you have now will stick out and create a pinchpoint no matter where you place it in your kitchen. Sell it on Craig's List, or if you have a garage or basement, keep it there for extra fridge storage. You can find great deals for "scratch and dent" appliances at Sears. I think you need to get educated a bit more, and the best way is to lurk on these forums a few months, reading as much as you can. I guarantee you will have a fresh and better viewpoint if you do that....See MoreBest Window Covering Option(s) for Window and French Doors?
Comments (4)Bridget, thank you for the link to the Roman shades; I hadn’t thought about something like that. Patricia, I’m posting some photos below. I’m in the process of buying this house, so these are photos of the current owner’s furniture, curtains, etc. I am planning to make quite a few updates (new paint, lighting, refacing the fireplace, etc), but am concerned about getting something to cover the windows as soon as the painting is done, before I move in. The first pic is a view of the 98x30 window and front door, taken from the area by the French doors. The second shows the French doors as you walk in the front door. Third is another photo of the French doors, but the size is skewed by the camera, they aren’t that wide. I will be painting them white. Walls will be a neutral color, maybe a light greige? And while you are looking at these... I was thinking of taking the tile off the fireplace and replacing with white ledger stone to the (8’) ceiling. I thought it might look batter if the tiled part wasn’t as wide as it is now, would you agree? Do you think built-ins on both sides would look good? Thank you!...See MoreKitchenAid Built in Refrigerator drain hose

You may have to watch a few videos to get the full picture. We could not reuse the grommet drain because it was sticky and old. My husband removed the panel behind the drawer. He used hot water to melt the ice. He removed all the frozen ice in the fridge before he replaced the duck bill grommet drain with the u-trap replacement part....See Morebeekeeperswife
