Snow in Georgia...a rare thing...(pics)

and we've had it twice in one week...(sure glad I'm not at the airport right now..LOL) I gotta find some winter clothes and go help my DS build a snowman! the stuff is perfect for snowballing...he almost knocked out a window!

You had the snow the year before we moved down here and we've been here 5 years, so I guess it was about time for it to happen again. Looking out I would think I was back in Ohio. Have fun. I'm staying in where it is warm and dry.

I agree with the idea of making a swath of grass/path following your existing shapes, and gardening the rest of the space. I also agree with a brick or stone edging. Both those things worked very well for me. I don't have a sidewalk on the outer edge; my constraint is a deep ditch, which forms the outer limit of the garden space. I like the relatively straight line it makes as the edge. You don't have to do it all at once - start with Yard Advisor's corner bed. Get that set up and planted and keep thinking about the rest. Over the following year - or two or three..., you can gradually extend the corner bed towards the house bed, and along the sidewalk. If you do it gradually, it won't feel like such a big change/lot of work but rather like a natural evolution for the space. That's the way I did mine. Initially, I created a big bed in front and a narrow one along the driveway. A couple of years later, a small one was added behind the driveway border where the driveway curves plus another small bed was added in the N&E corner of the property. After a couple of years it was clear that all of those needed to be made more coherent and connected. So I measured a consistent distance from the edge of the main, large bed to eastablish the ribbon of grassy path that ties it all together. The ditch limited the outer ('moat') bed to a very narrow shape but the brick edge gives it more definition and it all works quite well I think. Last winter, there was continuous snow cover here from early December until it fianlly melted away in the spring. That's a GOOD thing for plants. This year, thanks to the fifty inches we got in Dec. it looks like a repeat of last year. Yeah I know, some people get sick of it, but to me, this is what winter should be. Some people that either moved here from the south or were to young to remember what winter was always like (We did have a series of nothing winters for quite a few years in a row), seem to think we're in some unusual pattern here. I think just the opposite-that things have come back to normal, at least for the time-being. We've been out of the main storm track thusfar in '09, with just little dustings from time to time. I'm hoping for some more heavy stuff. +oM

I am laughing out loud at these stories and videos. It's been quite a few years since I've had a pet, but I've had a few over the years. The dogs just did doggie things like steal the roast beef off the counter. Scruffy the mutt we found would sleep on the bed when we weren't home, which he wasn't supposed to do. I'd walk in the back door and hear a thunk from him jumping off the bed. When I went upstairs he'd pretend to be sleeping on the floor, in spite of the bedspread being messed up. Worst of all were the ferrets. They could and did eat everything. It would go in one end and come out the other in the shape of intestines. I have hot air heat in my house and they used the ducts as their own personal trail system. It was so funny to be sitting in the den and a ferret would be scrabbling behind the duct cover. My son had taken the cover off the duct in his room and they used that to get in and out.

Beverly I am just so glad it melted quickly. Littlehelen glad we did not get ice as you did, hope you are able to repair your home and get life back to normal as quickly as possible. Helen glad you got some quilt color inspiration amidst all that ice and fallen trees, glad you have such a positive outlook on life. Yes I am ready for spring and flowers blooming and getting to wear flip flops again. I think I will throw on a coat and rubber boots and make the trip to my flowerbed at the back of the property and see if my daffs that had set buds survived our freezing temps and whether they are closer to blooming. Hoping all this cold weather will help my daffs to have a year of many blooms. Best to you and thanks bunches, Sandra

Gee whiz, Liz you got a lot more than we did in Athens. Is has snowed a little off and on. We have had more rain than snow. Nothing is sticking. Just got photos of the grandkids at their other Grandparent house in Anniston, AL. It was snowing just a little.

Isn't it funny how little kids just love that stuff...
They never want to come in when they are out playing...

Even as an adult I used to love going out to make snow people in our yard...facing the windows so the kids could enjoy them.

BUT become a senior adult..and you can't push me out there...I'm COLD....I hate being cold.

Right now, outside it looks like it could be a sunny fall day...then you remember there is snow out there...AND it's only 6Â°. I really need to get out to buy some hand warmers to stick under my cold outdoor kitty....

She's really loving the straw in her house. She hasn't come out of the house except for potty duty for two days.
I went out there last night about midnight and draped one more blanket over her home...

We are in northwest Georgia, and got just a little. It snowed for a few hours, but not much accumulated. What's lying around now is more like slush.

There was just enough on the deck for DD to build a snowman. Snowbaby- it's only about 12 inches tall. LOL.

And I just liked this shot. BTW, what is this plant? It's a tree, about 7 feet tall, has deep green leaves yearround, and always manages to bloom the coldest week of the year.

beautiful camellias Stephanie!!...our snow is on its way out...it sure didn't last long...we never even got a snowman built!glad we got out in it with the doggies while it was still pretty and fresh!

ohhh, your poor tropical by the pool might be shivering!
And to see green trees with snow, it isn't right! Still a pretty sight though. Love the tall trees by the pool.

I'm so tired of snow. Tired of it being on the ground for weeks on end. Tired of the cold, cause I don't want to go out there and do outdoor stuff. Don't want to clean the car in the cold garage. I say,,,Warm, I want it to be 60 degrees and warm! Even the dogs do their thing closer to the house. I am soooo ready for spring.

Toni, just a couple of months 'til spring hits the calendar. Air temperature might be another thing. Here in Michigan we don't even plan on anything like warmth until April at the earliest...usually May. Just hang in there. They say spring is just around the corner, but they didn't say which one!

Pattico...how do you make that little zero for the degree as in 6 degrees? Sure would love to know!

Toni...that Yucca Tree is going on 28 years old..(it was a wedding gift)...it hasn't been in the house in probably 15 years...it just keeps goin and goin like the energizer bunny...LOL...Those tall trees are Ga Pines and I'd cut everyone of them down if I could...they do nuttin but mess up the pool and choke out the few hardwoods we have...one of these days I'm gonna find a treecutter that wants the trees for the pulp and wont charge me an arm and leg to remove them!

On my Mac computer you press the Option and Shift keys together and then press the 8 key to get the degreeÂ° symbol. Don't know if it is the same on a Windows computer or not.
