What was I thinking . . .

a faux mink throw and a 2 1/2 foot tall reindeer

So, the reindeer was an impulse but you needed a faux mink throw? Can the reindeer wear the mink throw?

Naturally, I can't think of anything I ever bought that I didn't need - as long as I don't turn my head away from the computer screen my eyes won't glance upon any of those questionable things. My husband might be able to list a few things he didn't see the need for me to buy.

I think we all have these moments of unsanity, I was able to remove, donate, recycle all these things when we moved from big house to medium condo last year. I have a clean slate now and full closets and cupboards so I really have to restrain my "moments".

I must say I had to chuckle when I was reading your post, I just could see you walk in the house with your reindeer cradled in your arms, lol......

The reindeer and mink throw are funny. A piano may be hard to hide but really, can buying something that is art and music combined ever be a bad move? However, that camel - LOL!!!! Graywings what WERE you thinking??

Honestly, the worst impulse buy I can think of at the moment is my treadmill. I love working out yet I truly HATE that damn machine and rarely use it. Wasted $$ and wasted space.

Graywings, I can't tell you how much I needed to see that camel! LOL I knew you guys would understand. :O)

My husband has spent the day trying to convince me that the reindeer resembles our youngest dog when we brought her home as a puppy.

The faux mink throw wasn't NEEDED, but it is warm and SO soft, but at least it is more useful than a reindeer.

Okay, I took a minute and snapped a pic. He isn't set up or decorated, just right out of the box. The top of his horns are as tall as the back of my couch! There is supposed to be a wreath around his neck, but I don't like it so it will be replaced by a bow eventually.

I agree, he's a cutie! But then, we have similar taste... Do you have a pic of him with a lighter back ground so we can admire him better?

If I can make this work, as in my mind's eye, his older brother will be gracing my mantle come the holiday season. I'll be making a wreath a la the one linked at Horchow below, minus the antlers and hanging cones at the bottom. I'm hoping for a very natural earthy look. (And I made a beautiful faux lynx throw last year that I just love!)

My3dogs- I've never seen one that hangs on the wall before. That is really unique. Are you going to use the brown silk ribbon? I love that look!

Sorry about my always terrible photography skills. He is very true to color in the photo -- dark brown brushed with bronze. I was given a nice camera (supposedly "better" than my cheapie), but I can't use the darn thing. I'll try again tomorrow when it is light out.

I have been on Ebay a lot this past week, since we've been homebound with the flu. So... are Frye boots and and a lot of fabric things that I don't need? :)
Not to mention I went to TJ Maxx today, but I won't get into that...

Now that I see his picture I can tell you did need him or maybe he needed you. He is very handsome. They just opened a Big Lots near me. Maybe I'll impulsively adopt his brother.

I love your reindeer! I am sure you will find a good place for him. I can see him wearing a big bow at Christmas. You could put him next to your tree and surround him with gifts. Or can he go outside? I love special touches like that- I have many- I need to post pics. I have a 2 1/2 ft. monkey, in a tux,holding a tray for serving. Throughout the seasons I fill his tray. Right now he is holding a metal, painted turkey with fall foliage. One Easter I had speckled eggs on his tray. It is fun and we all need some" for no reason", stuff in our lives! Enjoy your new friend. LOL!

A monkey holding a tray sounds like a lot of fun. :o) At holidays, you should take pics to post. I'm sure everyone would love to see what he is serving up.

My husband and I have spent two days at odds about the reindeer. At first, his position was that he liked it better without the antlers. He almost had me convinced before he changed his mind. Now he likes them. We went though this same thing with a little Chinese figurine wearing a hat. For a week we tried him with and without his hat. LOL

I wanted to snap new pics, but we had a storm come through yesterday. Today is clean-up day. We have a couple of trees that need to come down. I think we have a fence down too, but we can't get to it at the moment. Hopefully when I get Christmas up, I can get some really good pictures.

I've got to get back at it. :O)

Your reindeer is very nice, paintchips! I don't think you'll regret having him in your household. He's elegant, really...an elegant, regal, classic, timeless reindeer that will grace your winter wonderland with style. He will look marvelous.

He's so much more tasteful than so much of what is on display at holiday time, & it's ONE reindeer, not Santa's sleigh led by Rudolph (which my neigbor displays every year along with several snowmen, "decorative" flags, & numerous other chotkes, all illuminated by thousands of lights.) I wish you were my neighbor! I would enjoy seeing this little guy everyday & would so appreciate the restraint you practice. You really have not gone overboard, though I truly value your efforts to live simply & monitor your purchases carefully. I try to do the same.

I finally stopped by my new Big Lots yesterday. I was shocked, shocked I tell you, by how big your reindeer really is! I guess I hadn't notice in your post that he was 2+ feet tall. In my mind's eye, I saw him as a tabletop decoration. My mind's eye is terribly unreliable, especially when I don't read all the details.

Anyhoo, he is so handsome in person! The only remaining one my Big Lots had was all chipped and sad looking. How I wish I had stopped in there when you first posted.

LOL, Yes he is a big one! I am really sorry that you couldn't find one to take home. He has really been delightful to have around.

Christmas decorating this year is pretty sparse. In two weeks we will be acclimating hardwood. We will see when it actually gets installed. Anyhow, I only have my 'lil tree, my favorite Christmas ceramics, and our new little buddy this year.
