First ice pics lost one big tree so far.......

Lots of limbs down and the pines bowed over and limbs out of it.....but this big tree that fell over made us holler LOL we were looking out the front windows and bam.....Here you go.....Stacy

Wow, Stacy, your pics show how nature can be, don't they? Amazing. Is everyone okay there? They're predicting all kinds of precipitation here in Ohio where I live to start around 5pm today and thru tomorrow till 4pm. I hope it's nothing like what you're showing.

I wish I could pose with the Jenny and Forrest Gump tree, but, I was on the wrong side of the Atlantic. That pic was in the UK, Wales actually. I can only hope to see it (Gump tree) in person some day. The closest I've ever come was going through SC on the way to Florida 3 seperate times. The nicest live oaks I saw were in Webster Florida, it was a rural area, lots of horses and cows under the trees, I loved that area. Lots of yards with many L.O. trees shading the yards. Many homes were old single wide trailers, but, the mature L.O.'s made it so beautiful, the trailers looked nice and inviting. Well, Webster is likely known for it's big Flea Market, there was a nice place with garden statues and outdoor furniture etc near the Flea market. The bad thing about Webster is that is one of the many sinkhole infested areas. Sorry for the meandering post, but, Webster is a nice place to see many old L.O.'s on the Gulf side of Florida, they seem to have been pretty much growing wild, the branches reach the ground, no pruning done to most. poaky1

momo3... thanks for checking in! just so happens that lots has been going on in the last two weeks, but it's still very incomplete. For starters, we had lots more digging while the pb's landscaping crew came in and buried some downspouts and dug out the patio and planting boxes, etc....but still no sign of the actual pavers that will make up both patio and pool deck....so PB does a total 180, sends the plaster crew out and lo and behold we were pebbleteched on Thursday and water was added Friday. PB will complete the patio and decks within the next 10 days...NOW HERE'S THE KICKER...the whole family left town for 10 days at the Jersey shore on Thursday, and we won't see the pool until the 6th! It's sitting in the backyard all ready for us and we're not there!!! PB is minding the pool while we're away, brushing and balancing, etc...esp. since he's building the patio all week anyway. Murphy's Law or what? I'll post pics next week when I return....have to check the log to see if you've updated your pics too...hope you're all swimming now!

Thanks! Ally, the top is now done and to be quilted soon! And yes the checkerboard goes ALL around it. And it's HUGE! I originally was going to use something other than pink but decided to stick with the pattern colors and I like it too. I'm making one for me to keep and have a different "pink" that I like even better. The pattern is from Pam Bono's "Quick Rotary Cutter Quilts (For the Love of Quilting)." You will all be proud to know that I am NOT going to point out the "flaws" to the recipient! (It's for my family reunion art raffle). I only tell you guys because I feel we are "collaborating" on things and learning from each other. BUT, with help from this forum and my DH's eye-rolling, I'm getting much better at not pointing discrepancies out to friends/family when I give/show them quilts. Especially if it's a gift -- once you point a flaw out it may bug them and they might otherwise never have noticed! Here is a link that might be useful: The book on Amazon - used about $8 with S&H

Thanks EmmaJay! I cant wait to see pics of your house as it progresses. I know a few people who lost their birds to dogs...so be very careful. :) Tomatofreak-its an overlay of some sort. The previous owners had used a complete mishmash of tiles - several different types - and the grout lines would have ghosted through if I had polished the concrete. However, this overlay is not holding up well and I will have to tile over it eventually. Any updates on your house? The house was designed by Al Beadle. The previous owners had tried to make it into some sort of mix between Roman and country. I had to gut it to the studs to restore much of it. I always thought it looked so pretty out after an ice storm as a kid in Illinois. All the trees were deciduous, and without any leaves, the icy branches looked like the trees were made of glass.

we've a few trees go down this winter, but with the ash borer outbreak we have had in mi, they didn't have a chance...

So far our trees don't look that bad. They just look pretty. It's a layer of ice and then a whole bunch of sleet. I think we have about an inch total. I talked to my family in Arkansas a little while ago. My brother's house doesn't have power, but my dads still does. They are expecting the bad stuff to come in tonight. They have a fireplace and a generator so they'll be ok.
