I have put it over the old flooring with success. If there are any large nick you will probably want to fill them in and be sure the floor is even. Clean the floor good. Measure to the center point in the room and snap a chalk line in both directions. Start laying the floor from the center of the room. It's not hard except on the knees.

We have done it in our rental house and here in the bathroom.
Our rental house floor was wood base with old linoleum, it was in good shape tho not torn just REALLY outdated. We made sure everything was completely flat. There was a spot right along the wall where it was curved upwards, not loose tho, so we used tiny nails to hold it flat. Went over it gosh I think must be 4 years now? I am not sure but not a problem. Oh wait right underneather the leg of the stove I think one cracked or maybe is dented in? But they have all stayed down and DD who lives there loved the huge change! Got those at Menards.
A couple years later we did our bathroom here, cement floor and again lineoleum. We didn't tear it up, what a job that would be! We bought cheapo tiles (discount store here in town)and peeled and stuck. There was one tile we have since replaced where the door for the closet is bolted into the concrete and it bubbled and wouldn't stay stuck. Now its better.
The better quality ones in the rental house I think are great! These?? I dunno their ok. Don't get the thin ones is my advice. Buy plenty of the same lot number, you should have too many and return them after the job is done if you don't need them.
It was easy to lay them over everything. Just start in the middle of your floor and lay them all til you come to the edges (walls) then you will spend forever trimming to get them to fit just right! LOL The whole tiles didn't take long at all, but the edges were very time consuming!
Oh yeah we swept, and scrubbed and vaccumed very well before doing the tiles.

PS I think we ended up with almost 3/4 of a box leftover from the rental house project, keep these for spares incase one needs to be replaced!

I re-did the bathroom in our old house with them. Remember what Linda said about filling in any large cracks. I had to replace the flooring and didn't know about filling in cracks. The tiles cracked over the old cracks. But the tile held very well, through several floods from broken plumbing, a sewer backup or two, etc. and still held tight.

Ok, I think you've talked me into it! I'm going to go ahead and order them.

We did a few floors at DDs fixer upper just so she could feel the baby had clean floors to crawl about on till they can afford the remodel down the line. I bought lots and we did all the cupboards and drawers and floor in her kitchen (and all cupboards in the bathrooms) with a cheap Armstrong tile at Home Depot. Made a huge difference in the old cupboards. During the time span between doing the cupboards till we started the floor, they put the tile on sale, so we got the last of it for 25% of the original price, which also was a sale price. IF YOUR FLOOR IS STUCK DOWN GOOD, then just put the tiles on top of the old. Be sure to run the tiles right up to the edge. We thought we could be inaccurate at the edge as the shoe molding would cover the gaps and as they always say leave room when laying a wood floor. Big mistake. Do the tile to fit the edges of the room snugly--or else they shift in high traffic areas. It was really fun, and what a difference it made. By the way, the tile was on sale at MY HD and regular price at my sister's HD. Don't know why. By the way, the glue will sometimes get on other tiles or seep up through the tiles, use mineral spirits or lighter fluid to remove it.

I always thought of my house as my laboratory when I was learning to sweat solder, do eletrical, etc. I figured if I screwed up & had to call in a pro I'd have him come during the day & deal with my wife instead of being here myself and being embarrassed at not being able to do what I set out to do. That only happened ONE TIME, though.

We have them in our kitchen. I too have to stress that you HAVE to get them up to the edge! We didn't in one spot and you (we can anyway) can tell it! We also used them in Caryn's house...we made a cut out/in for the frig, and just put a generic pattern under it. Worked well for that too.

LOL Softball! I'll keep that in mind....if I have to call in the pros I'll blame it on my dh while he's at work!

We put down the self stick tiles in a large Kitchen and it worked very well. We had some majoe repair to do to the base floor, also tile, before we could begin. We used Durhams Rock Hard Water Putty to fill several LARGE voids. Worked like a charm.

If you are talking about the LTD Catalog - I might think twice on those. That stuff is usually pretty low quality with VERY high shipping cost.

You might want to go check out a Home Improvement store instead.

it depends on how many existing floors are already there. for vinyl tile, think 3 is about the limit...you might want to take a single tile and check if doors will close, nothing will be blocked...

i like the armstrong brand, from the big 2...if you need or decide to replace,it can be done..a little messsy but dh an di foud a quick way. we used the steam floor cleaner! it loosen up the tiles really well...used this special adhesive remover from home depot for the excess/leftover glue. (stinky! but worked)

Susan, there is only one existing floor, it's the floor that came with the house when we bought it brand new. But thanks for the headsup.

When HK did my kitchen floor he put some dry wall screws into the old loose floor tiles and in some spots leveled it with some type of compound. He then used adhesive and let it dry a bit before he laid the new peel and stick vinyl tiles. My tiles were Trafficmaster from Home Depot. I am pleased with the look.

My son used the tiles in a house he was selling, and he had to re-do them because he was in such a hurry putting them down the first time. So, be sure to take your time. They turned out very nice looking the second go round.

I have done it a number of times. My recommendation to you is that you buy good quality tiles. Don't spare the expense or you will be disappointed. The cheapy ones simply won't hold up well.

Yes, I have. One thing to remember--make sure all your arrows go the same way. We live in an older house, so of course everything isn't plumb. I put caulking around the baseboards to fill in the little gaps. I also laid it over the existing vinyl floor. Looks pretty good. Hard on the knees though.

Excellent job! I prefer peel 'n sick over inlaid because you can replace damaged pieces (use a hair dryer to soften the glue.) Ceramic is out...DH falls a lot & doesn't need any more broken bones.

Did the laundry room & 1/2 bath next to it last fall in a marble pattern from Lowe's & love it. Biggest problem? Ol' arthritic hands trying to making those cuts.
