Has anyone ever used Place n' Go flooring in the basement?

In the past 15 years we have had 3 "floods" in our basement due to water heater bursting (twice) and our well pipe bursting. We are looking at putting down a floor where we can then put area rugs over it. I don't want to do cold tile.

Has anyone used Place n' Go flooring in their basement and if so, would you recommend it?

We're looking for something to put on our concrete floor that would be easy to remove and clean if a water problem were to happen again, but also looks nice.

To begin, I'm going to mention what you already know - water heaters spring leaks and sump pumps fail. A bursting pipe is not a situation you can guard against.

Before you choose any flooring for a basement, consideration to minimizing future water intrusion is practical. Here are some thoughts.

Have a "pan" placed below the water heater. Properly installed one will direct water from a leaking water tank to a floor drain. They really aren't expensive - $25 or so - but the water heater will need to be drained, disconnected and lifted into the pan.

A back-up for your sump pump. Most are battery operated but there are also ones which can be powered via city water pressure.

Now to flooring. I'm with you about something removable in the event of water so I personally stay away from wall-to-wall carpeting. I'm not familiar with the product you mentioned but without adhesive, any future moisture will seep under the tiles and spread. Removing and drying an entire floor does not appeal to me.

In our basement, we installed vinyl tile but used mastak rather than the stick-down adhesive. And we have area rugs too. Surprisingly, the vinyl tiles insulate the concrete somewhat and many guests have been comfotable at the bar in stocking feet. You might want to purchase a small quantity and do a test without actually installing them.

You're on the right course, considering alternatives first. Good luck with your basement.

I'm considering using this product to go over an old floor in my basement laundry room. I like that it's a recycled/recyclable material and seems pretty easy to install. Did you decide to use it in your basement? If so, how do you like it?

I have been looking at laminates that look like wood and have decided to go that route. The look I want is an old pub - so I need flooring that looks like old wood. I just started looking and saw some products at Lowe's that looked nice - commecrial grade flooring that runs about $4 per sq ft for the planks - then add extra for underlayment etc. It has a surface that feels like hand sewn wood and from a distance of about 1 foot away, you cannot tell it is fake. I looked at the vinyl that looks like wood - but it looks like vinyl to me. It is cheaper (in the 2-3 range per sq ft) but for the extra dollar or so, I would rather have the laminate. I like the Dricore product BUT do not like the cost. Also - it is not true that "whatever flooring you choose can be laid right over the dricore". If you read the instructions for vinyl on Dricore, they tell you to put down a layer of 1/4 inch smooth surface underlayment on top of the dricore. When you add up the cost of the Dricore plus the cost of the underlayment - it is more than the cost of the flooring. This was the subject of another post on this forum and the person who posted it was shocked to learn (after he put the Dricore down) that he then had to put this 1/4 inch underlayment on top before he could lay down the vinyl. I went out to Lowe's and looked at the prices - it was 5 dollars per Dricore 2' x 2' piece and 14 dollars per 4x8 sheet of the underlayment the manufacturer recommends. That comes to 34 dollars for a 4x8 section - or 4.25 per sq ft. If you do carpet or laminate over Dricore - then you can install right on top. But not vinyl.

A usable ramp will take at least 6 times as much space as steps. We ran into this when mum became wheelchair bound. Between garage and kitchen there were four steps (extending about 4 feet from the door which was about 40" above garage floor) which required a ramp 28 feet long... and that felt steep when pushing a wheelchair up! oruborus, take a strip of paper and zigzag-fold it so that it represents risers and steps. Put one end at the upper doorway, and then gently un-fold, so that the risers and steps straighten out into a flattish ramp. You will find yourself adding more and more paper to make the ramp's incline gradual enough to be usable. Think about it: most steps are about 11" deep, with a rise of 8 to 9 inches. Four steps of 11" each will take floor space of about 44". But that rise has to be ramped to be navigable and will have to extend [across floor space] until there is a 1 in 6 (2/12) slope. Believe me, you do not want anything steeper whether for a wheelchair or a mower. If one wants a ramp -and that does sound handy for moving equipment- then check with the experts as to what is usable. I suspect the space required would be best provided with an exterior access to the basement, with a gentle slope and one or two landings for switchbacks. If one is going be pushing deadweight such as a non-self-propelled mower, a 3/12 incline is going to be more useable even though it will require more floorspace.

I just made it back here.I have hurt so bad today.To answer the question did my dr explain the procedure,see I have been hurting several days thinking it was a kidney infection.So I went to my family dr.He took a example and said my kidneys we full of blood and protein,and said if I was not better come back in a week because he given me some cipro and some med to turn my pee-pee red.Well I got worst and went back yesterday.I told him I had been passing stones and I had been hurting really bad.I sit on the floor on a cushion and placed my feet on the refrigator and pushed as hard as I could trying to push these stones out.I was bleeding so so bad,.screaming out top of my head,.than last nite blood pour out.When I started to leave the dr office greg had taken me and the dr gave me a nausea shot and pain shot and told greg that was what would happen monday so I was already feeling the shots and I guess the dr was thinking they would explain the stint. Thank you all that has explain and told me all about this and who has given me advises.I am chicken when it comes to shots but when it comes to pain I can;t take it.I think I have done pretty good when it comes to this kidney stones.The gave me lortab7.5.Is this pretty strong?I still feel the pain.What I do not understand is the bleeding.thanks again for explaining all this and the well wishes.,I been laying down the times I have not been walking and pushing trying to push these darn things out,Hugs Judy

it depends on how many existing floors are already there. for vinyl tile, think 3 is about the limit...you might want to take a single tile and check if doors will close, nothing will be blocked... i like the armstrong brand, from the big 2...if you need or decide to replace,it can be done..a little messsy but dh an di foud a quick way. we used the steam floor cleaner! it loosen up the tiles really well...used this special adhesive remover from home depot for the excess/leftover glue. (stinky! but worked)
