Portable AC unit

Hello all. I have a portable AC unit, do not recall the BTU, I think 8k. My home AC is a central unit and at night living in SFLA, we usually run the unit at 73 degrees and the fan on constant. There is only one unit for the home, which means it will have to keep the whole home at 73 degrees all night. So I would like to begin using this portable ac unit for the room (only one room master) and leave the central at 76 this way I will conserve energy and lower my electrical bill. Now in the master bedroom we only have a sliding door and I have made a bracket to connect the exhaust hose but not very security secure. My main question is, instead of connecting the exhaust hose to this bracket, I place it outside the master bedroom door which points towards the family room? Any health effects or anything CONS to doing this? Any help or info appreciated. Thanks
