Adding an exhaust/vent fan to an existing bathroom - help!
Comments (5)You can get a low profile fan that will fit within the space. I have a powder room on the first floor and chose the Panasonic WhisperFit Lite to go there. It fits nicely and is ducted right out the nearby side wall. The WhisperFit is designed with the motor on the inside of the fan, rather than sticking out the top. In my situation the fan was a replacement for an old, LOUD f-fan. I used rigid duct wrapped in foil-faced fiberglass insulation. The Panasonic fans (and maybe other brands) are designed to allow you to mount the body and secure it before the fan itself is inserted into the body. This gives you more room to work. The fan I chose is 60 CFM, if I remember right. In my small powder room, this is enough ventilation that dust will roll across the floor when the door is closed. I installed a timer instead of a switch, which keeps me from forgetting that it's on. If you don't need one with a light, just look for the WhisperFit series. They can be found on eBay. I would assume that you could branch the electrical circuit from the existing fan to this new one for the simplest hookup. Then both would run at the same time....See MoreFavorite bathroom vent fan to replace WhisperFit-Lite?
Comments (8)Thanks--your timing is impeccable since we still haven't gotten around to this and I was just working on figuring out exactly which fan to get! We've decided to stick with Panasonic in spite of our bad experience because it is the easiest to fit into the space (same size) and everyone else seems to have good experiences with them, so hopefully ours was just a lemon. Do you have recommendations of specific Panasonics other than the Whisper Fit Lite, though? Our current dead fan is theoretically more than powerful enough for the space (twice what we need based on the linked site) and as far as we know the ducting is good to go (was put in when the fan was four years ago) but we never got very good venting from the first fan. Possibly whatever caused it to die was also he cause of the earlier issues, though....See MorePortable AC to vent thru Building Exhaust?
Comments (6)Hi @PRN, For heating, I have one of the slim wall mounted electric fire place that can heat the whole apartment. I also have heated flooring in the bathroom. For cooling, I'm hoping to find an option to cool the kitchen and living during the summer. My kitchen opens into my living room space which has windows. But unfortunately, those window are located on the front side of the building and the building is landmarked. Thus, I am not allowed to have window units out the windows or cut into the wall. I have a thru wall ac unit in my bedroom that I use for cooling during the summer with the aid of a fan to help push the air from the bedroom into the living space. Does a mini split ductless have a unit that hangs on the outside of the building?...See MoreVenting portable AC unit through door.
Comments (11)Ya but we don't use the heater But you are using 'a' heater. In the summertime. The exhaust from the portable AC. By dumping it into the ductwork, you're distributing that heat all through the house....See Moregarrai81
