Is it code to vent a bathroom fan out into the garage?
Comments (4)Unless your bathroom is 21' x 21' or equivalent a 250cfm fan is way too much. Bathroom exhaust fans should be sized for 4 complete air exchanges per hour. You begin by multiplying length x width x height to determine the total number of cubic feet in the room, then multiply by the desired number of air exchanges per hour. The result will tell you the number of cubic feet of air per hour that you must move. You then divide the cubic feet per hour by 60minutes/hr to determine the required CFM. By example, let us consider a bathroom that is 10' x 10' with an 8' ceiling. 10'x10'= 100sq.ft 100sq.ft x 8' for the ceiling = 800cu/ft in the room. We desire 4 air exchanges per hour so we multiply 800cu.ft x 4 = 3200cu/ft per hour. Dividing 3200cu/ft per hour by 60min/hr = 53.3cfm. Thus a fan that is rated at 54 to 60cfm would give you the required 4 exchanges per hour....See Morebathroom vent fans
Comments (2)Yes, you can wire them separately. I advise putting the fan on a timer and the light on a different switch. The timer I used was Leviton 611-6230M that has presets for 5, 10, 15, and 30 seconds. We use the short times to clear out bad smells and the 30 minutes during/after a shower. You can get other models with different preset times. Sorry, I don't recall which ventilation fan models we bought, but I am very happy with them....See MoreBasement bathroom exhaust fan droplets and A/C
Comments (0)Hi, i have a basement bathroom with shower light and exhaust fan on the same switch. I had a family member staying over and she took a shower one day. She of course ran the light/fan. The next day she went to take a shower so turned on the light / fan then sat on the toilet when water started dripping on her. The fan is right above. The fan works and exhausts outside just fine. I got some video of the drips and pics of the water in the cover which I removed. I had had all A/C vents closed including the one in the bathroom as it‘s pretty cool down there. Also it had rained, but the venting runs immediately out the back of the house, horizontal around 20 feet. Lots of insulation. So I couldn’t see how it could be from that. Looking for the cause of the drips. Closed A/C vent? Too little cold air return? Other? Thanks!...See MoreVenting portable AC unit through door.
